Trying To Fix Three Random Issues In The TT 225 | Multiple Bushings & A Regulator

- Hey Everyone,
Today we are back working on the TT and it's time to fix some issues that have been piling up in this car. We have been running into a number of issues on all of the cars as of late, but I am hoping today marks the turning point. First on our list is figuring out why exactly our shifter has so much play. After that, we delve into the world of windows in an attempt to fix an issue this car has had since I first got it. We also take some time to look into a mysterious feeling in the rear suspension... Hopefully we didn't bite off more than we can chew.

I really like the part about "starting somewhere" I've had two S2000's I wanted to do a bunch of work to as well as a ton of motorcycles. I always order a bunch of parts at once, get overwhelmed, and never do them. I recently traded my last S2000 for an '88 325ix and I've had to consciously order things one by one and slowly I'm getting the to-do list nailed down. And I actually feel accomplished.

You can take the small bracket off that holds the hard line that’s bolted to the rear trailing arm on the TT save’s opening the brake line, also unclip the brake line that sits on the inside of the trailing arm. Great videos as always ❤

I gotta say, the TT really is showing that it's more a VW than an Audi. I have to repair so much more stuff, have rust in mind, much more fiddling to do and so on. But now that it's running again I really enjoy it. Although it's around 250PS, it's really enjoyable. Mine though only has 238.000km on the clock
Totally right😆 It's practically identical to the mk4 Gtis haha. Other than the awd system and cosmetics, pretty much most parts are interchangeable. Even the main things that fail
Just as my window starts giving me problems on top of the multitude of other checks and projects im wanting to do before getting after market parts with my tt. Hunter comes in and gives me faith i can do it and a perfect tutorial on how to just go and get movin and bonus on how i can check whats up with my window too! Another banger :)

My TT had the same issue of the bushing falling out. I also put slits in the bushing to help it seat better like you did. However after a couple days, it fell out again. I recommend coating the bushing in clear adhesive silicone before putting it back in.
Yeah it's definitely a design that could be improved. Next time it pops out I will definitely add some adhesive I think! Thank you for the suggestion!
I had the same problem with that shifter bushing. Wound up putting a drip of super glue on it before installing it the second time.

Hey, always happy to see good quality vids. How about getting gated style metal cover for shifter? It will hold in position since it has metal frame. Will help u a lot.
Man a gated shifter would be pretty sweet! Especially if the aluminum matched the other trim in the car!
I think you should just try to close the brake line with a bleeder cap, so it wont dripp whlie you work on the bushing. I saw M539 Streten doing it a lot. Never tried it myself, but I will, because as I read on workshop manual and heard from forums, its a huge pain to bleed the abs.

@@HunterDirection No problem. You can just use them from the calipers.
A friend of mine did the rear arm bushing replacement without deconnecting the break line. And so, no need to bleed etc… And risk to snap the fragile connection, you know.
It seems that the line is flexible enough to move down the arm just a bit to have access to the bushing.
But I don’t know if it’s the same design on all the TT.
On day, I’ll have to do this work 😓
And , OMG, all these screws and rivets for the window 😬
Ooh I'll have to look into that! It's not the end of the world if we do have to bleed the brakes, just weird that's a requirement for bushings haha. And yeah, there is a ton of hardware keeping the window in place for sure!
How is the brake line held in place? Maybe a clip or something can be undone to help the line flex even more?🤷🏻♂️
If you just put the first gear getter in from the other side the shifter itself will keep the bushing in place. That’s what I did and it doesn’t fall out
I had it like that back after my OG one failed actually. When diesel geek sent me a replacement they said to swap it back for some reason😅 when it fails next though that's what I'll likely go back to though!
Oh really? There's no JHM option for the TT? If so, that's tragic.
But you should get a JHM shifter for you B5....
Why do you prefer the JHM one? I’m going to upgrade the shifter soon on my B5.
@@dustysteele5408 The feel is quick, mechanical and precise. The mechanism is well engineered, and built to last with a metal bearing style bushing and installation tolerances are perfect. Best mod I've done on my S4
@@dedbeet5845 nice! My 1.8TQM is a 5 speed. Probably pretty similar though I would imagine. I’ll have to look on JHM’s website and see if they make one for the A4.
Ironically a JHM shifter was one of the first things I ordered for my S4. Sadly I never ended up getting it or it was "misplaced" on the porch. I really love how the s4 trans feels and I'd hate to lose it... But I'd definitely be interested in ordering another if it actually made it this time haha
@@HunterDirection you can get JHM from ECS Tuning. I’ve ordered from them a lot and if they have it on the shelf then it comes within a week usually. They do have the “early style” push down reverse option for my car.
