Today is a pretty fun episode... I found myself enjoying having all this extra space a bit too much, so I decided to do something about that. I wound up finding a pretty crazy deal on another project for the channel! Hopefully it wasn't a complete impulse purchase.

As someone who did something similar and is now restoring an E30 touring, despite their headaches the wagon will always put a smile on your face. looking forward to seeing how this build turns out.
I'm also in the middle of restoring an E30 touring. Always afraid to break some NLA part.
I get so much entertainment from watching these, but always inevitably pause and really reflect on the wisdom you share from the lessons learned through these projects.

See.. this is the exact line of thinking that got me not one, not two, but three old bmw's... wanted a fun coupe , enter 128 slicktop with a manual.. absolute rarity.. and reasonable price. I then wanted to keep that minty vs daily driving and needed to tow stuff, enter diesel x5 (e70) .. then.. a friend pops up and says she's got a line on a rust free E30 and ... Yep... Never mind the tennis ball sized hole in the block, for $500 I couldn't pass it up. So now I've got a daily/tow rig, a fun street car/mtn toy and a track car .. Now I've gotta buy a trailer..........

I've been down this road before, I rebuilt an Amulet red C5 S6 six or so years ago. If you need to borrow a 4.2 timing belt tool I have one you can borrow, I am kind of local to you.

I feel your pain. It is never about NEED for me, and 100% about WANT... And boy do I want a lot.. Prob why my monthly vehicle insurance cost is higher than my Mortgage payment. You are going to love the Avant, my B7 A4 is my favorite car to drive. Adding an AllRoad to my collection has been the hardest thing to resist. I REALLY WANT AN ALLROAD.. An S6 is a must buy if the deal is right.

My strange addiction is right! Story of my life with every car that lands on my lap lol. I never plan on getting a new project but it doesn’t stop me from searching and sending messages. Next thing you know you end up like me and there’s a non-running GWagon in the driveway, haha!

That’s about the same struggle I had inside when I got mt TT 225 a few weeks back. My mechanic was selling his and asked me while giving a nice discount. After a sleepless night the decision was made, and after the first fresh ups on the car I stumbled over your videos. Keep it up, a very enjoyable thing you put together.
S6 is a hwy cursier, I too own a C5 S6 Avant. I sold my b5 Avant for one. Now selling my C5 to get back into a B5. I love the C5 but it's too big for me, plus I miss the manual B5. S6 is a great option for those who love wagons and need excess room. 4.2 ltr engine is classic. Only set back is the N/A motor, not great at high elvation which is where I live. Stoked to see what you do with your C5 S6 Avant.

The S6 did come in manual. At least here in Europe. But it’s rare compared to S4 manual.

Reminds me of buying the nicest Touareg V10 TDI in Germany two days ago. For 8500€. Potential is really the word...I see bargains and boy does my girlfriend suffer from hearing about every bargain I find.
And the 2.7 is a bitch. I carried the 3.7 V8 block without accessories for 6m and lifted it into the trunk of an A8. It was definitely lighter than the 2.7 V6 I once lifted.

Although the S6 is not for the faint of heart when it comes to not maintained and loved ones just like this specimen seems to be, you worked on a TT and everything is better and more rewarding.
Once the ANK or AQJ is dismantled this far, you want to do the full timing belt service PROPERLY. You don't install the new one with markings of the old one. You install it to spec on tdc etc. Many people totaled their engines because they installed it like the old one.
Second, you want to renew the gasket in the "Ruheraum" in the V. It's the aluminium lid with those many screws. It leaks water at some point just as the infamous cooling pipe through the V. Other than that make sure you seal the valve cover gaskets properly and make sure your intake manifold holds vacuum before installing it again. Liqui Moly injection cleaner is your friend for the next two fuel tanks and so is Cera Tec for preserving those basically indestructible AluSil cylinders.

Ahh, the marketplace... I used to have your problem, but it seems like everything on there is pretty much junk or obscenely priced at this point. That, combined with too many projects have put an end to the vehicle purchases for me. Maybe not a it's not bad thing after all... 😆

I was looking into getting one of these until I realized how expensive it was to do something like replace the turbos at a shop (they have to drop the engine) and I asked a couple Audi specialists in my area if they work on them and they straight up all declined lol. Cool cars though.
The RS6 is awesome! This one is just an s though haha, so it's got a NA V8. Which at least Makes it way easier to work on! ...And gives us the chance to design a turbo kit that makes more sense haha.

I feel ya. I have a MK1 TT 225 coupe that I will never be satisfied with. I can't not look at every 944, B6 & B7 S4 that needs timing chains, as well as every 986 Boxster that comes my way. I am a whore slave.
