That was so exciting....I felt like I was there when you found the full groove axe.......once in a lifetime
Its been nearly a year since I found it and it's still hard to believe sometimes. The search for one was over thirty yrs but in time,wa-la.:>) Thanks, glad to share the moment.
Looks like a great spot!👍🏹
It was promising on my first search, howbeit small, I don't mind small. Those artifacts that are there needs a safe place. That's where I come into play :>)
I miss hunting plowed fields. It's nice to see they still exist once in a while. Congrats on the great finds!
If it weren't for fields in my area I wouldn't have but one tool, one complete point, and one drill for a collection which I've found in various waterway searches, so I'd definitely missed plowed fields too. Thanks
I bet round 2 is exciting. That tool sure is a pretty one!
Looking forward to it given I can get the rain to cooperate. That tyrone stuff is attractive for sure. Thanks
Nice points ! Funny thing you found that core , i went out today and found a core, a big one about twice that size, in fact its the only thing I found this year, haven't been out much this year, can't wait to see what you find next, in that new field , good luck!!!
Thanks.Looking forward to going again if the rains come before the cover crop takes over.Should find some more although probably not a slide load beings it appears to have been a small camp, but I'm happy with 1.:>) Congrats on your find also.
Dang man that’s a great new site. Cool pieces. The banded material is sweet!
Thanks RT, Anxious to have another look when its good and wet.Today was bright and dry but I still got er done.:>)
Nice finds it's always exciting and gets your adrenaline going when you go to a new field you,ve never been to, the possibilities are certainly there flint spall next hunt with a heavy rain could really pay off
Oh yeah,I was thrilled once I started finding flakes. From past experience, I knew I was getting warmer.:>) Hope the rain comes and I can hit er just right again.:>) Thanks
Heck yeah, new spot is sure nuff exciting !!!! Awesome finds, congrats on the new field, brother Spall !!😃🙌 Hope it turns out some more ,after a hard rain 🌧.... Then ya can name the field 😎👊⛏🍀🍀
May have to name it the driving range,I collected 18 of em, and I walked past the first dozen before I started cleaning em up.:>) Not to mention how many has been tilled under.Maybe there's some more artifacts to be unearthed also. Thanks fir the comment.
@@FlintSpall Good target practice... Swing club, grab pew pew !!!🤣👊
Looks like you hit it just right for sure, always great when your successful at a new spot, might not need a bucket quite yet, but fill a couple of pockets, keep on em 😎😎😎
I need a bucket for the golf balls tho.I grabbed up 18.:>) Gratifying trip for sure.I plan on tromping it again once it gets washed better.I'd be surprised if nothing else shows up.
That site looks promising. You can tell that the field hasn't seen a lot of agriculture on it as some of those pieces were decent sized. I'm hoping you get some good rain and more turns up. I'll be watching!
I'm planning on giving it another chance to offer up some more, although it was a good scouting trip I know a pounding rain would surely do it good.Hopefully it comes before growth of the cover crop.Seems like its unusual to get many heavy fall rains unlike spring when temps cause more tuberlence.
That little place gave you very nice pieces my friend. That leaf is very well decorated with those stripes. When we search the great plains, we start all around and then we also search in the middle part going back and forth from one side to the other until we finish checking it. Very good finds my good friend. BLESSINGS.
Thank you.It pays to spend enough time in a new area, else you could pass on a decent campsite however small.I can't imagine hunting the plains without wood lines and creeks as perimeters.I'd be lost I suppose without a treetop to help keep oriented,LOL. Blessings to you as well!!
Nice material I sure am glad you save them hope you find some more there good luck and happy hunting
Thanks.I'll give it my all to salvage all I can.
Decent finds brother. Always a blessing to get a new spot no matter how big👍🇺🇸
Agreed.Perhaps the camp is a little larger once the sod portion of the field gets worked like the rest.It appears like the farmers ripped a plot in the middle which is often done to avoid any flood zone, but once they saw the reaction for a season it seems they busted the sod around the edges a good amount closer to the waterway, which could enlarge the site, if their plan is to tend a bigger crop new year.Hopefully that's the case.
@@FlintSpall I hope so also. Like another Christmas 👍🇺🇸
What beauties you are finding. When i hunt , i keep the broken and sometimes the flakes
I do bring the broken ones home, but the flakes I just leave, unless they show that they used them. Thanks to ya!
I was jealous watching that video. Lot of bare dirt for this time of year. Looks like you been getting a lot of rain, it was really eroded. We've had several inches here recently. But haven't had the desire to look in a tall corn field yet. Maybe in another month when the leaves hang down.
Yeah a bit unseasonal to be searching sprawling tobacco and corn.I'm not a fan of either but I suppose the more smothering is the corn that you can't see over the top of.Some may call it desperate, but if time affords a chance to look and the health is ok, I can't think of many things I'd enjoy and better.
That’s a special place you got there Laner, it definitely spits out the rocks. Glad you were able to get out and find a few, plants or no plants. I need to get back to my deer lease, I’m getting the itch to find a few as well. Take care buddy!!
Glad to have access to the property. Not all parts are tilled this season.A good part of it was no till soybeans.Hopefully they'll till it up next year and expose some more decent artifacts. It's a fun place to search due to the high expectation of collecting something for sure.Good luck when you get to go.Hope there's a killer waiting. Thanks
Blunts and Big Sandy’s are my favorites to watch you find, I could count on one hand the number of blunts I’ve found, I’ve speculated that blunts were wood working tools, not many trees in my neck of the woods/dirt 😎😎😎
I'd say thats a good assumption. No trees = No blunts could say something about their use for sure.Just like with the screwdriver they likely found several uses for the blunt.:>) I do enjoy finding the blunts. They make a nice looking display case full of them.
You did well FS picking your way through those tobackie plants. That oval knife looks similar to a Adena knife.👍🏻
I felt like I did good as you said with limited visibility. The oval knife is a quality piece. Thanks
@@FlintSpall 👍🏻
Awesome ! I would be doing the happy dance! And hoping no one saw me 😅, The blunt field, must of been a skinning and tanning factory and traded hides to other tribes. Maybe , cool video ! Thanks !!!
Unbelievable just how many blunts I've found there. Not sure what they were doing for sure. There's been much spectulation as to their use s, from scraping tools to fire starters to what perhaps I lean towards and that's bunny busters.I learned that from watching History Channels Alone, where a contestant named Amos used a blunt tipped arrow to ward off a fox, which were forbidden to kill.In the insert the editors mentioned the natives that once inhabited the island used them to take small game by blunt force trauma.Made sense to me,,it broadened their options also.If it stunned the animal perhaps they could create reproduction. They would avoid the destruction of the meat and skins, which were of great importance to them.Still not 100% but makes for a good reasonable possibility. If those Natives did that I'm sure first peoples in America were no different.
@@FlintSpall maybe ! I used to shoot archery and I remember bird arrows had a flat tip and big spiral feathers, I still have my 3 bows , tryed my 70 lbs bow last fall and could not pull it back ! Sucks getting old 😔
@@davelink1318 I get it, but we know if we live long enough we'll become old.:>) I've been somewhat forced to become more stategic as I ripen.Have to think a bit more on how to do some things.
Always a pleasure to see your videos pop up. Any find this time of year is a GOOD find. Some nice looking points.
Thanks.I agree, things aren't optimal but I did well for the limited amount of earth I could see.Mainly due to the excessive rainfall amounts, plus occupation is a must to at least give you some odds that are favorable.Likely couldn't see the ground in most places in another week.
Yeah, that oval knife is purdy !! Heck of a day brother Spall !! I love finding blunts !!😃👍🍀🍀
You'd be in heaven on this property.Oozing with them most of the time.
@@FlintSpall 😆👍I sure would !!
Heck of a hunt there my Friend, loved that oval knife. Lots of blunts for sure. The tabacco is a pretty plant. Don't see it down here in Alabama.
Yeah that oval knife was my favorite as well.Haven't really thought of tobacco as a pretty plant, but I see what your saying. If you never see it it's a thang of beauty. It grows fast and its smothering to walk in chest high trying to see dirt.:>) This was technically to tall to see much but I did well. Thanks
That’s a great day in my book brother👍🇺🇸
It sure is.Lots of action makes for a good time. Thanks
Bub ! did you miss one at 21 seconds? Bottom center and to the right of that little weed. Looks like another blunted one.
I see what you’re talking about, but that’s definitely not another one
Thanks for keeping an eye out, but while it does kinda bare the shape I honestly thing its just an unworked piece of sandstone.I definitely am apt to miss stuff tho, Thanks
100% Chicken of the woods, cut off and use just the tender parts and clean well before cooking. One of the best tasting mushrooms out there!
Thanks for the tips! How do you cook it? Do you saute with salt, butter, garlic or fry in batter?
@@FlintSpall Any of those methods will do, it's all personal preference. You will be surprised how similar the texture and a little of the taste it is to chicken. My wife sauteed it in a little butter with salt, pepper, and garlic, added it to fettuccini alfredo, and my kids actually thought they were eating chicken! A couple of them don't even like mushrooms and they cleaned their plates!
Wow !!! Very impressive collection. The OSG has been very good to you. Very fine, quality points.
Thank you kindly! Sure enough has been a thriller of a site and if I could today after all that's been collected, I'd be knee deep in the mud there still looking and with the same expectations of finding as I've had for three decades ..:>)
I do believe those are Chicken of the Woods, I have never ate any myself, but seen many. Nice set of relics from the Old Stomping Grounds 👍🏻
Do you know if the things if cut comes back as do morels? Thanks. I still doubt I eat em but would like to know just in case hard times hit, ya know? LOL
@@FlintSpall The grow on decaying wood and will come back yearly if the wood doesn’t decay completely. I have had them grow on old cut off stumps and come back for 3 to 4 years. The will grow on old decaying trees and big downed limbs also. They are said to be delicious, but I’ve never tried eating them👍🏻
That's awesome that you can find a site like that, i can't hardly imagine that, sure wish I had started earlier in my life, now I'm wondering if I will ever even find one point, good luck to on your future hunts !
I've tried very hard not to take a site like that for granite because I do realize they're few and far between. Many enjoyable hours and steps searching that site without ever getting skunked.
Lots of stomping at the OSG over the last few millennium, so glad you saved them from further destruction, I’ve enjoyed watching you picking them up by the bucket over the years, keep on em 😎😎😎
Yeah, you've likely seen most of those osg finds because you've followed from the start I assume.I started making videos in 2011 and then osg gets opened up for the first time in 25yrs.and the rest is history.LOL Glad to be in on it.GLTY!!!
I don't know much about mushrooms, friend, here in the desert you can hardly find any mushrooms. Wow friend, 30 pieces in a single day in the same place is like winning the lottery. CONGRATULATIONS. Beautiful collection my friend, some pieces that are definitely not seen here, I am fascinated by the tips that have a straight stem and base. BLESSINGS TO YOU MY GOOD FRIEND.
Understandable to not know about mushrooms in the desert but growing up where I live I'm without excuse.:>) Nevertheless I'm glad the youtube community offers most of the time some information.Oh yeah, you know I was on a artifact high that day, yet I've found much less and still was excited.Blessed to have had access to a couple of exceptional campsites in my lifetime and rescued some wonderful relics.Love seeing those desert killers too. Most of them I never find. Thanks for your videos.Best of Luck to ya!!
Not sure on the shrooms but I am sure those display cases are outstanding brother👍🇺🇸
I thought if I showed more than shrooms I'd find something that folks liked better.:>) Thanks
@@FlintSpall Well I like morels and chanterelles but those are also about the only ones I can positively identify. And it’s way too risky to try one you’re not 1000% sure of.👍🇺🇸
@@smokeeater8387 agreed with the notion of being sure, especially as long as I can afford bologna and weiners.:>)
@@FlintSpall 😂
They look like chickens, the underside is the key identifier it needs to have pourus looking holes..... theyre best when young, and the outer most edge is the most tender... the ones you found are at perfect havest stage imo
perfect,Thanks much for the info.I haven't found anyone local yet that has even heard of them nor wishes to try eating them, but at least I know more now than before. Thanks again.I may not comment but I love watching you pick up on those waterway banks with some awesome things.
Chicken of the woods. Delicious
Thank You!!
I have only found 2 drills both uniface and a rare find. enjoying your finds and vids as always.
I've heard they were scarce in other places much like the abundance of blunts I find.Until youtube I never dreamed they weren't found world wide, but even in the states that's true as well from place to place. Thanks
Just one of those cases would make a year for me, let alone one day. Beautiful cases!
Don't get me wrong, a case a year is admirable hunting.I've hunted different sites through the years and a case would likely clear many of those sites out if found. This and one more are/were exceptional sites and I've enjoyed searching them though the years. Thanks
The piece at 9:03 is a beaut--what is it? The round X point/ You must have been ECSTATIC to have found all those recently in one day. As to the fungi, I think Chicken of the Woods is correct, but ,like you, I eat morels and no more to be safe. Thanks for posting, bud!
That center piece I assume is the one your asking of @ 9:03.It's actually untyped because it's a blade which has yet to be given any identifying characteristics such as notches, stemmed, etc.It possibly in future use be given notches or otherwise but also could have always been used as a hafted knife just wedged in a handle.Preforms to all point types start out similar to that one, but because this one has secondary edge work I consider it a knife in use compared to a preform not yet finished.Hope that makes sense.:>) Thanks and yes, exciting hunt.
@@FlintSpall Thanks for the answer!
Salt butter garlic powder saute....mmmn good!
Not soaking in salt water? Thanks
What a 1 day hunt !!! OSG has treated you well !!! I'm watching on TV, internet too crappy to tell for sure, on the shrooms.... Great show and tell, Brother Spall !!!😎👊✌🍀⛏⛏
I ran the battery down on my camera before mid day turning it on so many times, so many were found without footage.Nevertheless while I can't remember the exact number of finds that day, these were the tops.I made a video of that day in a 2pt.er around that date. It's a confirmed chicken fungi and told to be delicious. You tell me if thats true then I might try it.LOL
Wish i could find one
I understand.I wished for 30+ yrs. Nothing wrong with persistance.Hopefully it'll eventually pay dividends for ya.
That one about 6:00 looks like flint ridge material
I come across some really colorful materials from time to time. While it appears flint ridge like, I expect its likely randomized chert from local creeks. Most of the colorful chert locally is grainy but occasionally a few high silica content which makes for a nice shiney finish is found.I've smacked a good bit of it in our creeks and most is unknappable to the degree one would usually seek for when just knapping for hobby. Thanks
In Arkansas we would call that a hardaway type
Hmmm, The southern states has a hardaway which has concave base with ears rather than a stem.
Heck of a dry walk, Spall 😎👊
I'd never hesitate a dry hunt at OSG.I wouldn't do that in most places tho.
@@FlintSpall Yeah, wasted time usually for me ✌
Awesome finds!
Thank You.Glad you enjoyed.
You found some good ones. I would guess middle archaic culture if I found that point in my area. Thanks for sharing your finds.
Your welcome appreciate the input.Thanks
Awesome bunch of points, I guess if i expect to find any i would need to find a site, dang it 😔
Even an unlucky squirrel finds a nut now and again, but chances are much increased if it went to the tree.:>) Thanks for the comment.
Omg killer
I agree, even if I did find it.:>) Thanks
Hey, can't believe I just stumbled across this video. Hadn't seen it before. Congrats on finding the axe. I've been lucky enough to find a few. The first was 60 years ago accidentally while walking on a dirt road along the local river. The next was 20 years later after I started looking for artifacts. I found one early this year in a field I had looked in for 27 years. Amazing what finally works itself to the surface!
yes it is.Although not hunted this site for that long, I have hunted it heavily since 2014.It was a shocker but a very welcomed find.Glad you got around to seeing the video.
Great hunt FS!! I love the shots of the points sitting on their pedestals. Good luck!!
Yeah finding them like that's always a cool surprise.Heck,I like finding em any ways.:>) Thanks
Maybe Hardaway or Hemphill on the concave base point. Several nice pieces for sure.
Thanks my Prairie friend.Several has expressed that's what they'd call it too.
