    FS, was glad to see you back out there again stomping in the mud!! I hope you picked up that chunk in order to spall out and work!?! If I can find chippable stone like that on a hunt my evening is set!!! I worry about not being able to knap forever so I’m getting my chipping in while I can. So hard to find large chunks like that around here, the bigger stuff traveled from the Dover area I figure. Seems like you created a firestorm on your Benton/elk river conversation!? Nice work!! Thinking is still good and needs to be done by more people daily. So thanks!!!!

      Nice comment.I understand the lack of material or at least sizey pieces,but it does exist.Mostly small pieces, but occasionally I’ve been in the right place at the right time.Best recovery I ever made was at a job site in which a basement was dug and excavated a great deal of very high quality black materials in chunks which were football size to a couple that it took two of us to load it.I was doing the drywall construction which afforded me at the site for about a week.I hauled a load nearly ever day.Not really sure exactly what it was for sure but worked good like hornstone.I made some vids of the use of it and some of the things I made, so feel free to gander.You may have insight into what it is.Not sure of the title but the search would be prior to 2019 I know.Hadn’t made much since then and no knapping vids since then or before.Yeah, typology will bring on debate from some and as long as done in the right spirit, it’s all good.Ken Wallace (Paleoman52)makes good since by pointing out that typology doesn’t consider individuality enough, for sometimes you just have to take what the rock gives.I know you get it.Good chit chatting with you. Down the road!!!!

    OSG is really producing for you. Personally I really like that nodule of hornstone, looks like it was a blade core. That place sure had a lot of activity on it back in the day!

      I may be pressing my luck at some point but never been to osg and left without finding at least one complete one. Something in me wants to hit that nodule while another part of me says nah, it's an artifact as it is.I guess I'll use other materials til I'm out then decide.:>)

    Sweet nodule! Hopefully you can get some points out of it. In my mind, they will be extra special because there is no doubt that the Amerinds had a hold of it first👍07:42 ... gorgeous blunt! A drill is a drill is a drill! Love the material on that one ... chalcedony? . You guys have some unique hammerstones, and they are quite consistent. We generally don't have them made of such high quality material ... it would be too valuable. Take care FS ... thank you very much for this vid ... you always have at least one special find, but I guess "special" is in the eye of the beholder. I think you know what makes me tick by now🤣😂🙃✌

      Yeah, No kiddin, when I find a blunt you come to mind.Not many folks can appreciate them but clearly a big big part of daily life for them.Not real sure if I'll hit that nodule or not, it's already an artifact as is.I suppose Chalcedony is a possibility but my mind never thinks gem stone but always local chert of some sort, although we do have a wide range of materials.Its only translucent around the edges so if it was Chal and being thin I expect it would be throughly translucent.Thanks Dave for the comment

      @@FlintSpall Agree .... it really is in fact an artifact. I guess you will just have to find their source then🙃

    Sure was a beautiful Pickwick! Super classic example on some cool striped material. That Big Sandy is one heck of a well made piece!! Shame it’s broken. How it goes though. Glad to see another outing in the books for you. Best of luck on the next!

      Thanks.I'll get around to watching you recent video, been out of town for a few.I save vids of interest to watch later.Without looking the thumb tab has Teka up 1 so far.LOL I agree the PW was as close to a "Classic anything" that I find, but nevertheless I like em all, and yeah the BS was awesome.I have some complete and nice ones from the site and that one woulda been among the topps.Glad they at least salvaged it,so I know they damaged it originally not modern man.GL this season!!

    Great video brother. Typing was spot on and I’d agree… when in doubt call it a kirk haha. Looked like a kirk stemmed possibly. Even had what looked like wore off serrations. All used up and hard to tell tho. The Pickwick was spot on classic so was the benton. My favorite piece tho blunted or not was the big sandy. Congratulations again and happy hunting kind sir.

    Nice to see you again flintspall enjoyed hunting points with you. With my mobility issue, those days are over for me. I would love to see what’s inside that hunk of flint you found. Would that be “Kentucky Blue”?

    • @FlintSpall
      @FlintSpall  2 роки тому

      Not sure about Ky Blue.I would associate it I suppose with hornstone based on a good amount of artifacts found that's made of HS. May end up being gravel but it looks pretty solid.One of these days I'll check into it.Thanks for the tag along.Hopefully I can go again.
