Sorry to hear about your Cav. My G5, Cav's cousin, is still going at 318000. I had a situation with the oil gasket in the head. Didn't even know it until I changed sparkplugs. It didn't burn oil cause I run synthetic so it never gave clues. it ran perfect. I was even Kentucky several hundred miles away and back. I checked the compression and it was surprisingly good. A testament to my oil change OCD. I decided to get a new timing chain and water pump since I figure I should. It runs great. I will look into that Valvoline Restore and Protect. #quadstatecameras
It seems strange that the hydraulic line and the slave cylinder failed at exactly the same time. So what was the outcome?
I been working on a follow up. I know it's been a while since I've posted an update video. Hopefully soon. Thank you for watching.
This video did me absolutely no good, I need to know how to bleed the brake system
This video had nothing to do with the brake system. The issue was with the clutch master cylinder and the hydraulic clutch line. I apologize if it confused you. Thank you for watching.
The metal on the trans plug is just the syncros. If previous owner grinded gears a bit youll get that. Just take care of it going forward
@@tylerwiththecobaltss4door Thank you I didn't know that! When I drive this car I baby it. I don't shift aggressively. Thank you for watching!
I had to cut the 9/16 key as the standard size is too long to fit between the frame rail and plug. Mine is the 2.4 SS so it might be a tiny bit different for clearance. Just a heads up if anyone else has this issue!
@@joshgray1410 Good looking out. Thanks for the tip!
I've got an '03 Cavalier and this just happened to me today, so I appreciate the video. I thought I'd seen everything that was going to break on it already, then this happened. Hopefully the timing chain doesn't go out on you. Let me tell ya - that was not fun!
I've heard horror stories about the timing chain 😆. Thank you for watching!
Have you tried wet sanding after the primer?
I have a 06 Chevy colbolt ss that is not moving when when it’s in gear. And when it’s in gear it won’t stall when I take my foot off the clutch.
Just get a ottp short throw so much nicer
This is a perfect video! The descriptions and video angles showing what/where/how. I unfortunately have the same issue but now I'm sure I can get this done a lot faster and with way less of a headache. Thanks. 352k miles
Great video.i have a 2002 2 door blazer the same color .great trucks . They don't make um like that anymore. Keep up the good work.😁
Still got the cobalt???
Yes I do. I know I haven't posted the Cobalt in a while. Or posted anything else. I'll try to have more videos on the Cobalt. Thank you for watching.
@PonysGarage love to see more. See some performance stuff. You should do a video on how to replace the thermostat.
WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM PEDAL WONT COME BACK UP
The mechanic shop I took it too told me it's a lengthy process where you have to keep bleeding and pumping. I didn't know that but he said I had done half the work by the time he got the Cavalier in. Thank you for watching.
Amigo. Exelente video. Al menos ya aprendí como descargar el aceite de motor de la blazer. ¿Cuantos litros de aceite lleva una blazer? Saludos.
Creo que toma 5 quartos y medio de aceite. Gracias por ver el video.
Great video
Did you have difficulty to reinstall the small clip on the master cylinder
I just did my 2005 sc/ss today, took charger off painted, changed oil and coupler inside. Car has 68,000 miles, bought from showroom floor in my 20,s. Stage 2 kit from gmpp, custom gauges, halo led headlights, victory red paint.
Cobalt Front Intermediate Axle Stub Shaft IS A NIGHTMARE
Agreed.
Got a part number or place to get the clip for the bellhousing?
The clip that attaches to the slave cylinder? If so, no I don't. I know it's cheaper than the one that goes to the clutch master cylinder. I think I saw that clip on ZZP's website as well. Hopefully this helps. Thank you for watching.
And you're right my stickers are gone and its rusty as fckbutI still love it. Need to cut its rockers off soon and get it ready for paint. Heatercore makes it sound like i have a fish aquarium in my dash right now though 🙄I need that dayco kit for sure, especially since it guarantees the easy 1000hp😅
Thanks man yea i wanted those specs and while its a good book, i thought id overlooked it and i have to do the same sh!t to my 97 s10 blazer 2 door 4x4 because its noisy as hell
Not sure what background song you used but I enjoyed the synth/trance lol, what was it at around 5:20? Also will be doing this job on my 07 Redline soon enough... fearing that intermediate shaft to CV removal. I was going to spray it with at 50/50 mix of Auto Trans Fluid and Acetone. That stuff has been amazing for me. Not sure if it'll get in all the way but worth a shot... what tool finally cracked the 2 loose for you man? Nice work
I had to remove the intermediate half shaft completely from the transmission. I did what you said and sprayed penetrant in and gave it a few hours to seep into it. I held it with the CV axle cup side down and started wacking it with a 5lbs hammer till it popped off. It wasn't easy. It took a little while. I wish I had video of it. But I was so frustrated at that point. Hopefully you got. Yours fixed. Thank you for watching
I have a 2005 Chevy Cobo. I cannot find my reverse switch replacement
Sorry for the late reply but is yours the base model Cobalt or an SS? the Base models have it on the back side of the transmission next to the driver side CV Axle. Don't quote me on it. But I think that's where it's located. I could be wrong.
I'm using the shop on the weekend to do mine, and still am struggling to get it apart. I don't wanna get it hot and kill the bearing lol. What happened with yours?
Went out for a drive with my brother. He wanted to know what it felt like to give it the beans, and at the light, he went hard on it, and the CV Axle blew out on the passenger side. Which I learned is the worst side you can have that kind of failure because of the intermediate half shaft. Hopefully, you won't have an issue removing the axle. Thank you for watching!
@@PonysGarage no. I have the intermediate shaft in the vice and a large air hammer on the cup, I'm deforming the cup and it's not moving out of the shaft at all.
Can you DM me on my IG? ponys_garage
@@PonysGarage I sent you some pictures. It'll get done by some magic tomorrow, things like this fall apart when my boss looks at them lol
I had to replace my slave cylinder in a barn 😅
The Cavalier is still in the shop since this video. The clutch and Slave cylinder were replaced. But the slave cylinder went bad. I need to get it done. Wish I knew how to drop the transmission and do it myself.
@@PonysGarage watch a few videos. There’s a guy who shows how to do it without dropping the subframe. It can be done with 2 people in a day. No experience pulling a front drive transmission before
You said some of the comments were harsh. Ive been doing this for many years and you did fine. Lots of keyboard experts that want to try and let you know just how smart they are. Not everyone is a expert at everything in life and everyone had to learn at some point. You did good!
Everything youve done I just did totaly restored a 2dr version ground up including paint n body.
I haven't had reverse lights since 2008! I will do it now that I know how thanks!!!!
Im glad this video helped you. Thank you for watching!
Newer ss supercharged owner here. I did not know about the hidden air filter until now. Thank you for this!
Always take off the fill first to whoever reads this. Ask me how I know
Thanks for the video. My friend's Cav is doing the same thing so tomorrow I will try this.
Good luck!
Where did you get this bulb at? I have a 2000 blazer and I need this light?
I bought the pack on Amazon. Sealight 194 LED. I think they're called. Thank you for watching!!
Man I’m looking so hard for a victory red ls 5 speed ecotec … just lost mine in an accident
Sorry to hear about your loss. Definitely rare to find a 5 speed manual. Hopefully you find one soon. Thank you for watching!
@@PonysGarage got a cobalt sedan for the daily for now going to put aside the guap for a cav coupe
Thank you! This video is exactly what I needed to be able to troubleshoot on my own. 🙂
Glad it helped. Thank you for watching!
Good to see you posting again. Hows the cobalt doing?
Thank you for watching. The Cobalt is good. I have been driving it for about a week and it definitely has its opportunities. Gonna have to do some tweaks on it for sure. I just need to get my daily back on the road. Definitely going to have more Cobalt content coming.
Don't know what you did, Just bought a new camber kit (oblong bolt) forr strut, My understanding is you remove the top bolt with this new one that you rotate to get the correct camber. I notice the original bolts come with a weird head (not a nex - rounded off with only two flat sides). Having trouble getting a wrench on it. Any comments about removing the oringinal bolts would help.
Thanks for this video, because I watched I went and changed my PCV valve on my 2003 S10 4.3 manual 5 sp and the rough idle and slight visible exhaust smoothed out and idles much better, and amazing change, I also replaced the hose line from the PCV,👍
I'm glad the video was able to help. Thank you for watching! Consider subscribing!
I have cobalt ss 10 not have fuel filter 🤔
LNF ( Turbo) Cobalts have the fuel filter integrated into the fuel pump assembly. Basically, when it goes, you'll have to replace the entire assembly as opposed to the filter itself. I have seen that ZZP sells a inline fuel filter kit you can install in the engine bay. Hopefully this helps. Thank you for watching!
I got a 2010 also, it’s always about spending extra money instead of KISS (keep it simple stupid) 😂😂
Did you disconnect the battery while doing this or does it matter?
You can if you want to. I didn't because once you unplug the stock you should be fine. Thank you for watching 🙏
@@PonysGarage I just wanted to make sure i didn't set off the air bags lol.
Excellent video
Thank you for watching!
Glad to have you back bro!
Thank you! I try to post as much as I can. 👍
Are the dash board set ups the same in a Sunfire and a cavalier? Any videos on replacing speedometer?
I would imagine that they are set up the same way. I replaced some of the bulbs on my cluster. I had to remove the top of the dashboard and the bezel around the radio and speedo. I'm sure there is videos out there how to remove it. Thank you for watching. Good luck.
@@PonysGarage thanks. I'll look into that a bit more
Im guessing you have a sunfire. This is literally the same thing I did on my Cavalier. Everything was the same to remove. Hopefully this helps ua-cam.com/video/cRjeUmMmCk8/v-deo.html

Hey Polly, I heard a lot of bad things about 75W 90. How is your experience on it? I’m coming up on doing my fluid change.
I drove it for a while with the 75w-90 never had an issue. It actually helped with when I would put it in reverse it would grind. After I put it in it stopped grinding. I ended up changing out the RP about 4000 miles later because I wanted to see what was the condition of the fluid. I now am currently running VALVOLINE SYNCHROMESH MTF . THe Royal Purple is good stuff. Thanks for watching.
@@PonysGarage I went with redline 75W90 NS. Thanks for the video it’s a great help
@dookiyt hows your experience on the 75W-90 NS?
@@IntrovertedN00b so far so good. Smooth shifts, no issues. Haven’t had a single issue with it. I bought redline btw
I snapped off the top part. What do I do now?
The top part that holds the cable to the pull handle?
Magically he attached the cable to the door opener, but didn’t show anything. Video is worthless.
Where did you find a new shift knob? Can't seem to find any anywhere.
I found it on eBay of all places. Send me a message on IG ( ponys_garage ) and I'll give you the link to the seller I bought it from. Thank you for watching!
Hello, I would like to see if you can help me. I need help with the air vac system.
I have broken hoses and I don't know where they are connected
I'm not familiar with the air vac system with these trucks. I just know basic things. Here is a link to a better comprehensive video. Hopefully this helps ua-cam.com/video/7J0cKsnERCQ/v-deo.html thank you for watching.
In todays engines it will prime that filter quickly regardless. But I suppose what your doing it the proper way.
It's just a force of habit 😆. I always side with caution. Thank you for watching!
Thank you
Thank you for watching!
I'm pulling my trans in August when I have time off. I lost 5th and reverse a year ago and have been rocking it like that. The throw out bearing is toast too it's making some crazy noise. I'll at least take a good look at 5th and see if there is anything damaged. There is some kind of a factory defect on these for 5th. I have a new clutch/flywheel and other parts all ready to go. I could get another car but just don't want to. Going to keep driving the balt.
That's crazy. When I had my 94' Z28 I lost reverse and 6th. I was told it was the synchros that gave out. Usually these F35 transmissiond are reliable.Good luck doing that big job! Thank you for watching!
