Nice to see that drive axle piece disconnected. Working on replacing right drive axle this morning (2022-04-05), is solid in there. Put back together for another session. Will remove the whole intermediate shaft like you did and remove the drive axle. I see it is nice and rusted in there. Explains the trouble in removing. Thanks for the Video, Cheers.

@@PonysGarage Removed the whole axle shaft with intermediate shaft. Soaked axle spline and intermediate shaft interface overnight (standing on end). Next morning separated with with 1.5lb hammer blows (approx. 12). Installed , test drove. Had noisy intermediate shaft bearing. Should have replaced. Good for now.

I just did mine. An automatic so slightly different. For the splines that goes into the transmission, I just coated it with transmission fluid. Looks like you put copper anti seize on it. I did you the copper anti seize on the ones that go into the knuckle.

Good call on the Copper seize. I never want to deal with another stuck CV Axle. 😅

@@quadstatecameras Nothing happened. I was referring to the whole process I went through to replace these axles on the Cobalt 😄

Not sure what background song you used but I enjoyed the synth/trance lol, what was it at around 5:20?
Also will be doing this job on my 07 Redline soon enough... fearing that intermediate shaft to CV removal. I was going to spray it with at 50/50 mix of Auto Trans Fluid and Acetone. That stuff has been amazing for me. Not sure if it'll get in all the way but worth a shot... what tool finally cracked the 2 loose for you man? Nice work

I had to remove the intermediate half shaft completely from the transmission. I did what you said and sprayed penetrant in and gave it a few hours to seep into it. I held it with the CV axle cup side down and started wacking it with a 5lbs hammer till it popped off. It wasn't easy. It took a little while. I wish I had video of it. But I was so frustrated at that point. Hopefully you got. Yours fixed. Thank you for watching

The passenger side gave me so much trouble. The driver side was done in pretty quick, make sure to have something to catch the transmission fluid

Yeah that passenger side i do not wish that job even on my worst enemy haha. Im sitting right now in front of the driver side and I put an oil pan underneath it like you said. The cv axle popped right out but no fluid came out. I think the transmission might be low on fluid since nothing came out. Thank you for the tip! And again thank you for watching!!

Gotta replace my passenger side also, I’m looking up ones of eBay/Amazon and they are saying front left, but I’ve also heard with the intermediate shaft on these cars both left and right are same length, any truth in that?

I've only seen on the SS models that they're the same size. The driver side should be a direct replacement straight to the Transmission. I know that the passenger side is also the same size but it goes from the intermediate half shaft to the Transmission. I've only seen pictures of other models where the driver side is short and the passenger side is longer. No intermediate shaft in between. Straight from the wheel hub to the Transmission.
