Out With The Old and In With The New (Loch Etive)
Just a short update to wish you all a late "Happy New Year" and lets hope for a calm boating season. I have managed a little winter boating recently but a bad dose of "Man Flu" kept me landbound for three or four weeks. Im back to normal now and getting my camping gear ready for the new season. Winter is passing quickly now and hopefully in a months time I will be camping again at the Wee Out the Way Bay.. Hope you are all keeping clear of winter flu's too.

After a disappointing summer of strong winds and rain.. September gave a few opportunities to head to sea for multi day adventures. I have already posted my Small Isles trip which was my last multi day trip of the year ..this trip round Jura was done at the start of September ..and one of my fondest memories of this years island hopping trips.. Part one and I go from Taynuilt to Eilean Mor MacC...

This is the final episode in this series. I leave Loch Sunart and travel to Lismore to spend my last night on the multi day adventure in the same place I started using the inflatable boat Cabin Cruiser several months earlier. I then head for home in a Force 5 Sea ..just to keep me on my toes

Continuing this box set where I went round Ardnamurchan Point in my inflatable cabin cruiser and visited Canna, Rum, Muck and Eigg ... I now continue to Arisaig then round the mainland coast to Loch Ailort and Loch Moidart. The weather was exceptional after such a poor summer.

September weather proved much kinder than the rest of the summer weather and I managed to visit the Small Isles of Muck, Rum, Eigg and Canna. I was delighted as it was to be my last major Multi Day adventure in 2024.
Prettiest Place On The Planet ..Arisaig Skerries
Переглядів 4,7 тис.4 місяці тому
Arisaig Skerries were once my favourite place to go boating, however IMO they became a victim of their own success. Too many visitors put me off as I much prefer quiet remote places. During my last multi day adventure round the Islands of Scotland I revisited the Skerries for the first time in several years and I convinced myself that they are still the prettiest place on the planet to go boati...

This video series will cover my wild camping adventures on loch Etive over a full year. This episode is for the month of May. I love watching the countryside waken for its winter slumbers. It help me recover from the dark winter months too. I meet some new neighbours in this episode too.. not the friendliest neighbours either..but we learn to tolerate one another ..eventually.
Tormenting Trout in Loch Etive with a Gopro Hero 12 Camera

I accidentally drowned my GoPro Hero 7 camera while fishing in Loch Etive so replaced it with the latest model , a GoPro Hero 12. This is my fishy tale trying it out for the first time and my honest opinion of the Gopro Hero 12.
Loch Linnhe and Loch Leven by Inflatable Cabin Cruiser
Переглядів 8 тис.6 місяців тому
Mid July and the Scottish weather was still very fickle. Cold north winds gusting to 30mph and often rain. So when a couple of nice days arrived I had to get out in the boat and make the most of things. This time I headed up Loch Linnhe to Loch Leven and had a great time. The video tell the tale ..hope you enjoy it :-D

The second and final part of my first multi day adventure in the Inflatable Cabin Cruiser. It worked a treat and despite its size is very comfortable for me. The big plus was no disturbed nights from wandering cows, stags ..or warewolves ..and not a single insect bite :-D

My inflatable cabin cruiser passed its sea trials at Lismore with flying colours so it was time to head to sea for a real adventure. I spent 4 days going round Coll and Gunna with a visit to Tiree and this is part one of that adventure. The weather was very fickle ..Hail..rain.. sun ..calm seas ..strong winds ..you name it I encountered it. What has happened to July sunshine ?

    Donny, I enjoy all your videos around Oban Fort William and loch Etive area. but while watching another vid called 7 types of wood you should not burn I thought of you as it tells you not to burn wood that has been in contact with salt water. check it out.

    • @donnywilcox
      @donnywilcox День тому

      Hi robin thanks for commenting and also your tip on salt water driftwood. I am aware of that tip. However Im also very aware that although loch etive is a sea loch.. it is that deep (400ft in places and has that much fresh water rain running off the hills (fresh water floats on salt water ) I can almost drink the water on the top surface. This is why I also catch brown trout in the shallows of the loch. Also much of the wood I collect is wind blown and not been in the loch anyhoo ..so Im pleased to say Im not burning wood saturated with salt :-D

    Hi Donny, I enjoy your videos so much that I wonder if you have ever thought of publishing some of your photographs on a calendar. We travel in your area last September and have great memories of the sites we saw there. Wonderful lochs and mountains that stir my Scottish heart. Also I love the music you create for your videos, it's so appropriate. I find I admire your ability with technology for a man of your age. Amazing. Kind regards. Joyce Hopps, a fan.

      Hi Joyce , thanks very much for the kind comments on the videos and they are much appreciated. Im very lucky in that although I am not a wealthy person, I live comfortably on my pensions so I have no real motivation to sell photos, calendars etc or make money from this UA-cam Channel. In the past , several people have asked if I would sell them a photograph of such and such a view. Im always happy to email them the photo so they can get it printed at a place of their own choice at whatever size they wish. That saves me the worry and time doing it and everyone is happy. I have thousands of stunning landscape photos that no one ever sees so I might start making some slideshows of them accompanied with my music and post as a video on this channel while its still early season for boating videos .. if there was an interest in seeing some of these photo ? Thanks again for commenting.

      I guess we are lucky the sea lochs dont completely freeze on the west coast of Scotland Jeffrey although sometimes I have to motor through some thin ice. I love hearing the ice break as I go through it. However I keep well away from the thicker ice. I once got stuck in some and had a hard time getting back out as the lightweight oars couldnt break the ice and just skid over the surface if I try rowing 😀

      @donnywilcox 4 дні тому

      Hi andrew ..thanks for the kind commen. To avoid copyright strikes, I write my own songs now as I spent a lifetime playing keyboards and guitar and even spent 10 years in a local pub band. Im no expert though. However I cant sing in tune so invested in a couple of sample libraries made by professionals who have record short vocal lines which I adjust to fit my backing tracks. That's why there are no clear lyrics ..they only hum, groan or moan ..so its easy to use them in my songs. Hope that helps answer

    Oh my what a wonderful tonic for the first week of February, thank you, I enjoyed that. The reminder that March is only a few weeks away was timely as that's when I shall be next up there. Can you tell me where the little pier is at 3.57 please as I'd love to sit there for a while and enjoy the scenery, is it accessible via a public road? A little late but a happy and healthy new year and safe journeys in your little boat.

      Hi uffo200 ..the pier is at Bharr and only accessible by a private road with combination lock or by boat. For me its a bit of an eyesore. It was built around 5 years ago by the lot putting a hydro power station on the burn .. they brought the materials in by boat and the electric cable crosses the loch here. I presume it was supposed to be removed after the hydro plant was built but obviously that has not happened. No boats use it and its too shallow for larger boats anyhoo..its a lovely location though :-D

      @@donnywilcox thank you, that's saved me some time hunting around for it. I thought it might have been for some construction because that's an obvious car park. Shame about that for more reasons than one.

    Many memories of shore fishing the north shore, I couldn’t believe the changes to both north and south shore roads with traffic on both sides of the loch. I need to re visit soon but the walk up the quarry road to the fishing mark giving me second thoughts ha ha, keep living the dream Donny say safe and healthy.
