To cold even for me .. to go boating .. I have enjoyed the bitter cold but calm days of early winter by walking local areas like the Rannoch Moor ..a vast area of bogland
Donny, thank you for another inspiring video! I've been there many times, seeing Loch Ba in all seasons, but you showed it at its best! It's odd that you can be in a small boat and your EPIRB is your saviour of last resort yet we all take to the hills ill-equipped... I was out on Loch Lomond 2 days ago on my SIB and the weather was just beautiful! Blue sky and sunshine and not a breath of wind! Probably my last trip until the Spring, but there's no doubt Scotland is supreme! I'll remember my camera next time!
Thanks daveated ..its a bit different subject than my normal boating videos but its been far to cold even for me to sit on a wee boat ..so have been doing a lot of walking to keep warm 😀
Alright Donny.....hehe...a change is as good as a rest...i like a good hike myself used to work on upland footpaths many years ago...you reminded me of building the fords on west highland way, on other side of Devils staircase...looking onto Blackwater resevoir n Rannoch moor....wilderness for sure...
I took my well worn hiking boots & fitted screw in wader studs for winter use. They are superb on ice now. I too swap my PLB from lifejacket to hiking kit & worry about forgetting it. Great views, well done & thanks for taking the camera & drone.
I carried Katoola Micro spikes in my bag that day Ashley..but never put them on. I kept to grass areas ..but did slip a couple times on the icy bits that were covered with snow ..making it like stepping on marbles :-0
You're really mastering the drone Donny, that footage was fantastic. absolutely love going up the 82 towards Glencoe my favourite place on earth. thanks for sharing with us lucky people
Thanks Harry .. I always enjoy crossing the moor on the A82 too and used to travel it often when working..it was then that I realised how dangerous a road it could be ..folks just suddenly stopping for photos ..oblivious of the heavy lorries thundering by :-D
Hi calum..it would be a hard guess as I guess Im a bit of a mixup ? Born and bred in Dingwall ..followed by around 30 years in Ayrshire then another 25 in Stirling and now Oban area ..I tend to eventually pick up bits of all those accents ..rolled into one ..and also keep the various lilts of each area. I dont speak the mother tongue though..but you would guess that as I cant pronounce those strange named places ...like our mountain names :-D
That was absolutely amazing, How could you once go away for a day on your own catch stunning beauty and you being in the story at all times using voice and video. The difference of your pro 4 makes a story you once could never do. Not taking anything away from you because without you the drone would not know what to do. Thanks for sharing Ray K UK YNWA.
Hi Donny. This video brings back memories as I have done the WHW twice and past that area quite a few times now. Just had my knee operation, so it will be a few weeks before any walks for me. Hope you are well and really enjoyed watching. Thanks Steve 👍
I have only ever done parts of the WHW Steve but often crossed the Rannoch Moor part by walking and by bicycle ..perhaps I should do the full route sometime
You certainly need to watch for the deep bogs Archie ..I have never tried fishing there as I heard its got plenty trout but all very small ? Perhaps next year I will go see for myself as I would have thought there would be the odd large one too ?
Thanks sergeram1436 .. I always enjoy a walk along the WHW ..although I have to confess I have not done it end to end in one go. I have often walked sections of it though 😀
Thanks Ben..I hope Im always careful ..but I have told my daughters ..if anything does happen to me..only be sorry if I end up long term in hospital ..with something like cancer .. dont feel sorry if I have a quick ending enjoying myself .. but Im certain I will last a few more adventures yet 😀
Great video, Donny. The views of Black Mount and the surrounding hills from the drone are amazing. Especially with the wisps of cloud surrounding it. I am a big fan of freezing temperatures I must admit so I enjoy the winter stuff. (Apologies- I accidentally hit the dislike button but soon corrected my mistake!)
Glad you enjoyed it Captain ..its a delightfull area for walking when frozen. I did try the same walk in September..went a couple miles and slipped in the mud..I was covered in it head to toe..so decided to go when it was frozen hard 😀
Great footage, Donny, the drone certainly adds to the adventure. I have been out regularly wild camping up in the Lake District mountains this year, the last one on Friday just gone in the freezing weather. Love ❤️ it 😊 I put some footage up on my UA-cam channel ( kerny 2091), although the quality of my videos are nowhere as good as yours 👍 ATB Kerny.
I will have a look for your videos now kerny. I was tempted to try camping that last bitter cold spell..but if Im honest..by the time I got up the loch..I was chittering so always glad to get home. Im heading up there next milder night with no rain and wind though :-D
Excellent video ... and good choice of music to go with it. If you think you might be doing 'ice walking' again, I'd recommend a pair of Microspikes to go on your boots on the icy sections.
Thanks William..and good advice . I did have a pair of Kahtoola micro spikes in my bag..but was too lazy to stop and put them on. Mostly it was ok as I walked on the grass..but I did slip a couple times on ice when it was covered with the shallow snow. It was like standing on marbles and took me by surprise :-0
Quite the opposite louisjadot ..Im trying my best to lead a very full filling life doing all the healthy things I enjoy doing. Sadly I have been to a few funerals of folks my own age ..they spent their life on the sofa watching TV and could hardly get the energy together to get to the pub.. that is a death wish life in my eyes. What path do you tread ?
Another wonderful video. Stunning landscape

Loved this, donny! We were wondering where your accent is from? We all had different guesses!!!!
