The Album that Reunited a Father and a Son
After dropping Revolution Revolucion in 2001, vocalist Cristian Machado of Ill Nino had time to consider his lyrics, many of which came from an emotional place that he didn’t fully understand.
But with 2003’s album Confession, Ill Nino’s sound expanded just as Machado’s perspective did on an immature reaction he had to a pivotal life event when he was 19.

The Album that Couldn’t Beat the Allegations
Переглядів 17 тис.2 місяці тому
I don't mind that people find some of the lyrics in Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence to be problematic because people should express what they feel. But shouldn't Glassjaw and Daryl Palumbo get to express what they feel? Isn't that the point of art?
Gore: Chino feat. Deftones?
Переглядів 11 тис.7 місяців тому
Perhaps the most polarizing release from Deftones (thus far), Gore is heavily memed for being a lackluster album. But is it really true? Is it not just the Deftones purists making everyone feel bad for not liking what they like as usual? It's complicated.
The Greatest Album Never Released
Переглядів 55 тис.Рік тому
After suffering for almost a decade, the friendship that bonded Deftones together was stronger than ever. After the release of Saturday Night Wrist, the band were ready to write again, and more importantly, write together. But during this time, Deftones faced their biggest challenge yet. The fruit of their labor resulted in a near-finished album, Eros, that may never see the light of day. Suppo...

Linkin Park has blessed us with a track from the archives and a music video too. Like they did for the 20th anniversary of Hybrid Theory, they're releasing a limited edition boxset for Meteora. But is "Lost" any good? Also why did Joe keep chipping in and out of the discord call??

I liked this record back in the day. It hit pretty hard. The lyrics were rough. Dude clearly had some women issues but that was pretty par for the course in a lot of post hardcore, emo, pop punk at the time. It was a lot of sad boy breakup shit that was anywhere from pretty benign ex girlfriend anger to outright misogynistic bullshit. There was a weird thing over the past few years where people wanted their art (music, movies, literature etc..) to be free of anything perceived as toxic or taboo or anything not deemed totally righteous and if it is there it must be explicitly called out in the work as such. This isn't how art and expression works. Thankfully this is fading away. Anyway, Judging by his comments a few years ago, as a grown man, he seems to look back at all this as being pretty immature, clumsy and disrespectful - which he should, which we all do. It's part of life. His just happens to be immortalized on a record.

Good deep dive, boss. It's ridiculous for people to associate men, or anyone for that matter, who are frustrated with horrible betrayal and heartbreak with "incel behavior". Incels are mostly virgin men who are frustrated and angry about REJECTION. And are becoming blackpilled as a result. Too cowardly to take personal responsibility for their rejection. Too entitled to humble themselves to lower standards than their brainrot has become accustomed to. But it all basically comes down to one thing... These are people who choose to protect their fragile egos, rather than properly learning basic self-care... and who have no idea how to love themselves. And this record has NOTHING to do with any of that. Subversive art about heartbreak and betrayal. Being criticized by childish people who want to sterilize art in all it's forms. And if someone wants to make incredible art based on the incel experience... I'll listen to that as well.

This is my favorite band of all time. I still have my original LP of EYEWTKAS and listen to it often. I dont think Daryl should have had to apologize for anything. He didnt say any of this to any person, it is poetry and it is art. Art doesnt have to be shiny and perfect. Art should challenge the listener and any wide array of negative subject could and should be expressed. If Daryl wanted to apologize and truly feels 'idiotic' for writing one of the best songs of my generation, so be it...but if he is just forced into saying this to not get cancelled, well that is a sad day for art in general. GLASSJAW FOREVER.

The dude was like 18 when he wrote most of that record. Everybody was emotionally immature at that age, and considering the guy got cheated on and it coincided with his first outbreak of Crohn's disease, it's understandable that he was probably full of rage at the time. Just because it was expressed with occasionally violent imagery doesn't mean he actually did that kind of stuff or held those views towards all women. He's even apologized for it since - if you can't view the lyrics for the artistic license / exaggeration it is, you're probably just taking offense purely for online progressive clout and should touch grass

I’ve always defended the album in this exact way. As a young, impressionable, and heartbroken kid at the time, I didn’t listen to Glassjaw and think “yeah, all women are whores and deserve to be beaten or killed” I thought, yeah I understand and can relate to the pain of heartbreak and being blinded by youthful and ignorant rage. In the moment of heartbreak your frustrations get the best of you and that’s what you feel IN THAT moment towards the person that hurt you. It’s not at all representative of your core beliefs or values. People snap and say hurtful things when they’re angry, in any situation. When someone says I’m so hungry that I’d kill for a meal, it’s not assumed that the person is indeed a murderer while hungry. I’m not saying that someone is wrong by being offended by the lyrics, they’re truly hurtful and I think that was the intention towards the person (hurt back who hurt me). The infantile rage is ultimately directed at someone not all women. I feel like it’s much easier to accept or understand the lyrics in this mindset and not to take it as some kind of manifesto. You’re young, you think and feel stupid things in anger and you grow up and realize how silly it all is.

As someone who’s been through the ringer in my 22 years of living. And dealing with the heartbreak and being put through hurtful and cruel situations with women. This album has helped me plenty of times to get my frustration and hurt out. Can’t count how many times I’ve cried to songs on this album. I mean Daryl was pretty much still a kid when this album came out. I mean he was an adult but not really ya know and being 22 myself I’m learning myself

There really isn't much more that needs to be said outside of what you said in your analysis of this record. For my money you've perfectly summed up the entire work and how a healthy mind should interpret it. The only thing I'd like to add is a personal anecdote and a point to back up the likelihood that Daryl was done with this immature emotional misogyny once the record was done. When I was 19 I found this record. I had just had my heart completely destroyed by a girl I had been practically family with since the first grade. I was so down and low self esteem that it was pitiful. I sat around and cried alone listening to Elliot Smith while wallowing in my victimhood. And though EYEWTKAS is it's own version of that, it was delivered in a much different tone. This record gave me my anger and balls back. It could have very easily went a very unhealthy route like it obviously has for some of these anti woke incels who think there is only black ane white to life but it didn't. It just gave me that little bit of manhood and kick in the ass I needed to get up and say "fuck this, fuck what happened, it's not the end for me". The point i wanted to throw out there that I think is all you need to know that Daryl exercised those demons and moved on is the direction he took for the majority of his future lyrics. You can find moments of the young and hurt Daryl in future lyrics but he obviously made a deliberate decision to move on and mature. And after all, he made an entire legendary record where he was laser focused on one agenda, that's enough for anyone.

My introduction to deftones was an interview of Abe in Modern Drummer Magazine from 2007. He said he often tried to record his drums before Bob Ezrin would come into the studio, so then he wouldn't be told what to do. Then one day Bob came in as Abe was recording, which made Abe sop playing. Bob then said "Abe, do you not like recording with me?," to which Abe replied "No Bob, I don't like it at all." I can only imagine what it was like for both parties at the time

I know it’s impossible for them as a band to truly appreciate it due to the struggles of the times, but if Chino especially could view it the way I do as sonically the best representation of showing of the HUM influences (heavy multitracked guitars and washed out droning vocals etc) I think he’d at least understand why some of us still adore this disc
