When Mykal came in to do Be Prepared and this, it was actually Eli and Cesar's first time meeting him. Mykal and Cesar immediately became best buds. ❤

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Mykal was one of the original members of VoicePlay together with Earl, Geoff and Layne. They were only four members at the start, but some time later Scott Porter joined as beatboxer (you saw him in their cover of Halo). Mykal was in their recent cover of Be Prepared. I think he has az beautiful voice!! I sometimes have problems with listening to high tones, but not to his. Thank you for your reaction!

Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thanks for your reaction to this one. Mykal was an original, founding member of the quartet they formed in high school called "4theLove". They added beatboxer, Scott Porter, and changed the name of the group to "4-2-Five". Mykal left the group to pursue a career on Broadway and Scott left to pursue a Hollywood career (both have been very successful). They enjoyed local success with different short term members for a while but later regrouped with Tony Wakim and Eli Jacobson and changed the name of their group to 'Voice Play' around 2012 before the 'Sing Off'.

Thanks for this reaction to VoicePlay! I had been hoping that VoicePlay would cover "Stand By Me" eventually. Mykal was the perfect collaborator for this one. Apparently, they used to sing this together as teenagers when Mykal was an original member of the group. Other than "Be Prepared," released this past September, "Just Sing" (2020) was the only other VoicePlay video that Mykal has been in since he left the group as a young man and that one was remote. A lovely song with a beautiful message about true friendship. They were in a time crunch for this one and said doing the video this way only took a couple of hours compared to a minimum of six hours had they done it their normal way to film a full video. This one was Layne's project. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Michael had to get on a plane back to New York, so they did it with as little production as possible. Also, they liked the visual of each of them standing by the others. Mykal was with them for Be Prepared. This is so beautiful, I just love it!! They released a sponsored video on the 13th. Warframe contacted them after they did Sleeping In The Cold Below and wanted them to do a song for their update. It's called Party of Your Lifetime. You don't need to know the game to love the song!

Christmas song to battle hymm?

Asking me to pick a favourite between Simon & Garfunkel's original, Disturbed's powerful reimagining and Geoff's hauntingly beautiful arrangement would be like asking me which of my three cats I like best. I'm just grateful to have all three in my life. Geoff can be fearless in his arrangements, so it's a bit of a trust fall at times. It took me a second listen to go from "hmm, not sure about that" for some aspects, especially in the first half, but they won me over really quickly. (The harmonizing in the finale was an instant hit for me, but I LOVE Geoff harmonizing with anyone, including himself.) And when I took a deep dive I found that what I first thought were bold and almost off-putting choices actually _served_ the theme and lyrics - just not in the way I initially expected. Just like the cutest cat in the world is always the one currently cuddling with me, I think the best Sound of Silence version is the one that fits my mood.

I've heard The Raven narrated and even performed in song before, but never like this. I think even though I've got some experience with downward spirals and long, lonely nights the narrator was a little too unstable/obsessed from the start for me to relate to, but Geoff got me invested and made me feel for the poor, grieving soul. Afterwards I was curious about what others took away from it and was glad to see your reaction. Your perspective is really enlightening. Although the language didn't put me off, I think you're right about that difficulty to connect with such a poem. Geoff's narration was the first and only to fully bridge that gap. (Of course it was his gorgeous voice that lured me, but without the care he puts into every part of his delivery, it wouldn't have been half as effective.) Geoff reads this poem with such subtle but powerful emotion, it's breathtaking. The changes in tempo are perfect. I felt my own heart speed up in excitement first, then in rising dread, even though I knew what was going to happen. The way he barely raises his voice, just hardens it a fraction, a little steel and fire, yet the restrained seething comes across so clearly. And don't get me started on the *slide* from anger into despair in the penultimate verse! Those _quivers_ in "- Quit the bust above my door! Take thy beak from out my heart, and take thy form from off my door" ...I had to blink back tears.

The way Geoff arranged this, it sounds like a war anthem (I'm not the only one to make this observation) and how poignant it is to me bearing in mind this is a Ukrainian carol and considering the suffering they are enduring, even at this time of year in their war-ravaged country. He sings it like a powerful WAR song to encourage a flagging army. I don't know if that's what he was thinking in his arrangement and production of this, but it's a perspective that strikes me as especially relevant today...not only for Ukraine but for us all. The juxtaposition of the usual sweet angelic feeling of most Christmas music with his deep, almost ominous bass that instills a feeling of revolution is also a powerful reminder that the Christ of which we sing was himself a revolutionary who shook the religious and political structures of his day with a radical message. LOVE ALL. Not just who you approve of. LOVE ALL. This conveys that radical sense to me in a way that shakes everyone who hears this song, sung this way, to their core! To say I love this does not even begin to say enough.

I like that song, and I really enjoyed your reaction! I've always thought that with how deliberate the Castellucci couple is with the costumes for the Geoff clones, this lack of distinction is very delberate: They're not just performing musical backup for Geoff, true to theme, this time they're his "gang", the way "Jim's boys" were. And we all know you don't mess around with Geoff. (That Geoffquake starting at 8:24 was powerful.)

Geofffs talents are beyond description..

A rendition that makes you want to play it really loud and when it is done you are left with a peaceful happy feeling. Geoff arranges, , remembers little things, etc. I also love his readings. What a gifted man. Thanks for your reaction. GO listen to his reading of The Night Before Christmas.

That way he has of drawing us into the world of five Geoffs is what Tolkien called 'the willing suspension of disbelief.' We know it's just the one guy, of course, but like every great storyteller, he knows how to entice us, not to forget that, but to temporarily set it aside and play pretend with him for a little while.

This is Carol of the Bells as you've never heard it before! This one is a mansion that Kathy really wanted to do this here. It's about 1 hr to this place. It is rented out for events but for this day it's Geoff's and Kathy's place. How about Die Hard. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Don't forget to do VoicePlay's Party of a Lifetime (WARFRAME) doing Warframe's 1999 Update. They loved what VoicePlay did with Sleeping in the Cold Below so they got them on board fast.

Nope this is not a set it is indeed a house that is a venue an hour from where they live. It i also apparently a very expensive venue and they had a extremely short time to film the Thunder of the Bells!

It's actually four Geoff's and one Daryl (he is on the far right). Daryl can misbehave so he isn't always allowed on set 😂. This cover is the final proof that human beings could go along with aliens perfectly well. Each one of us loves Geoff, nevertheless, we must admit that this man is not from this world.

For your comment about Geoff looking around and making eye contact with the other Geoffs -- honestly one of the most impressive things about his videos, to me! He marks out where he's going to stand on the floor, but he also just has such a clear mental picture of what the scene is going to look like, and he has to remember which direction he looked in each take to mirror it and get it right. That amount of creative coordination is mind-blowing to me, and very few reactors comment on it!

To me this has an epic feel to it. With different lyrics it would sound great playing during Game of Thrones or LOTR! Having said that, the Christmas hymn part of it makes me think of Big Bells, not tinkley little jingle bells! His arrangement of this is awesome.

This was shot at a mansion that they rented for the day. The room was pretty empty. All of the mantle and floor decor they brought with them. The subtle gold and blue tones are a homage to the fact that the song originated in Ukraine. I didn't hear sweet silver bells, rather big iron cathedral ones. The album artwork matches the tone perfectly. You should check out what Huldra Draco did with this video and one from the Muppets!
