Loved your enthusiastic reaction and analysis- thanks! Yes, this was a long 12-13 hour day shoot for this video done on a Saturday so their families could be with them in the studio that day. After a long day of hard work they went the next day and danced in the shooting of J. None's new video that was just released, 'TGIF Glide' (it's also on You Tube now to check out). They worked hard but had so much fun! As you may already know the makeup was done by longtime friend, Rick Underwood and his assistant, as he had done their makeup back in their college days performing at Universal theme park (Rick Underwood is in charge of the makeup for the annual, monthlong 'Halloween Horror Nights' at Universal theme park). The Zombie infection and slow transition to zombies was Rick's idea so you will see Rick included in the credits for creative concept. Former baritone singer and co-owner of PattyCake productions assisted with the direction of the choreography. Recently Voice Play has been submitted to be considered for Grammy nominations for two of their videos ("Hellfire" and "The Way You Make Me Feel") in the Best Arrangement Instrumental Or Acapella category. We are very hopeful and excited that Voice Play is finally getting recognized despite their choice to be independent and work without a record label or contract.
I love this one SO MUCH! And it has very quickly become my favorite to see people's reactions to - there's so much going on and so many interesting moments!
The original MJ video was 17 minutes long. I love how VP compressed it and still managed to get all the important elements in, plus their own tweaks. This was just awesome.
Kathy was doing the zombie biting Layne. She had gone shopping for a doll (Greta Gruesome) that was dressed like her and Layne looked like he wanted it out of the park. Vincent Price was the narrator originally.
I like to say: The narrator in the Original was Vincent Price. Here it is "Geoff Priceless". 🤣 For me, this video was an instant all time-favorite of VP. I have to admit, this is my most "pre-viewed" video on Patreon by Voiceplay. Normally, I take a first look of new videos, another look or two the next day, and then I wait for the public release, because I will see the video multiple times with the reactors - and I love it. But this time, I had to watch it over and over again days before release. And I still can't get enough of it. Like you said, the song is incredibly iconic, the make-up is top notch and absolutely brilliant - Rick even made a makeup for the "Greta the Gruesome" doll (or better the "Field Goal doll"? 😆) to make it look-alike to Kathy (the Alpha zombie on the floor). The shooting took around 13 hours this time (due to the 'evolving' makeup). I think, they wanted a very good one for Halloween this year, because last year there was no "real" Halloween project (it was "Hellfire", but produced in August and not intended as the Halloween release). They hadn't enough time, because of the preparations for the concert ("Chicago & Friends") in November. And as always I enjoyed your reaction, seeing the anticipation and the enjoyment discovering the small things VP always hides in their videos.👌🥕🧟 - Before I forget it, it's sooner than you think: Happy Halloween! 🎃👍
Did you recognize Kathy as the floor zombie/Big Greta? 😁 ETA: She did have legs, but the dolly they bought and made up to look like her and that Layne yeeted off-screen didn't 🧟♀
Makeup was by Rick Underwood (who has just been named as makeup and prosthetics supervisor for Universal Orlando's new Epic Universe) and Renette Feren. The "progressive zombie infection" was Rick's idea. Kathy Castellucci is the zombie that bites Layne. It was her idea, during setup for the shoot, to have Layne kick "her" away. The doll Layne kicks resembles Kathy's character thanks to Rick Underwood's magic and is from Spirit Halloween . They call her Greta the Gruesome (actually, she's Little Greta and Kathy is Big Greta). The heartbeat is made by Layne. Fun fact: once he becomes a full-fledged zombie, Geoff never blinks when on screen.
Rick, their chief makeup artist and the one that suggested the progressive makeup to Geoff, is the chief makeup artist for Universal’s Halloween Nights. He started out early morning with Kathy’s makeup (and even makeup for the doll to make it match) and was joined by Renata later. It was a Saturday shoot (working around J’s schedule for shooting his own music video that weekend) so all their families came in for lunch. By the way, Geoff, Eli, Layne and their wives were all in J’s video.
Speaking of 'puns' - one of them I love here is right after Eli's first lines. The background vocals drop out mid-word on para-lyzed with Cesar freezing hand up as if he became paralyzed in the middle of the word - just before his own lines.
I do feel like this video is very meta in a way. VoicePlay is going to film the video for their cover of Thriller. They bring in their old pal, JNone. Not too far into the video shoot hijinks start to ensue. One by one our boys are being taken out. I love that you acknowledged that look on J's face because in this scenario I can totally hear him saying, "Oh my gosh you guys are so weird. Why did I agree to do this again? Why do I keep coming back here?". 🤣🤣 And, of course, acknowledging that we're in PattyCake. So good. 😁
None of the reactors I have viewed have said anything about the left-right giggy steps when they advance on J None during Geoff's narration. It looks like a nod to the whole group dance during MJ's video. I don't think I have seen the original in its entirety, but it seems familiar to me.
You are the first to comment on the fact that’s an interior door after the rest of the video made it look like they were outside. And I can’t tell you how much that interior door bugs me, lol! Layne gave you a bit of a jump scare when he turned around in full makeup, didn’t he? 😊 IDK why; I was fine until it was Eli. For some reason he jump scared me so bad I about dropped my phone.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🧟♂️🧟♂️🧟♂️🧟♂️🔥🔥🔥🔥!
Fantastic arrangement by Geoff.
All hail Carrot Zombie Layne!!!
Absolutely!
The narrator in MJ's version was Vincent Price. I'm sure he'd approve of Geoff's performance 🔥
No doubt!
Their makeup/prosthetics guy sold them on the idea of doing the progressive infection. The shoot took ALL DAY, but it was SO worth it in the end!
He did incredible.

That's honestly all incredible. So glad to hear they are getting that kind of recognition.
Thanks for another VoicePlay reaction. They never fail to impress. This is such a fun release!
I had so much fun with it!
I love this one SO MUCH! And it has very quickly become my favorite to see people's reactions to - there's so much going on and so many interesting moments!
I feel like I could watch it on repeat and still find new interesting little details. So much fun.

Couldn't agree more. This was perfect

That kick still gets me 😂
Thank you !!! You are the only reaction that picked up Geoff’s vampiric rise!!!
It was honestly a thing of beauty for horror fans!
Even though I love Cesar so much, I wouldn't want to find his zombie version of him in a dark alley. I swear I wouldn't !!!!
So true! 😱😭

Happy Halloween to you too!

I thought it might have been but wasn't sure. That kick still gets me everytime 🤣

That bit about Geoff, I haven't read anywhere else. Awesome fun fact!

Rick and Kathy deserve the same praise as the rest of them for this one. Excellent work.
It was the best Halloween video yet!Nailed it ❤😊😊😊😊
I'm inclined to agree!
the ankle biting zombie was the lovely Mrs Castalucci! ❤
She made an excellent zombie
I thought that when Geoff laughed in “Enemy,” he sounded like Vincent Price in the OG version of this song. He absolutely crushed this narration.
It was SO good
I really enjoyed your reaction to this. Thanks so much!!
Glad you enjoyed it, Thanks!

Great catch!
I agree, it’s great! So much humour! Kathy does a wonderful zombie, as does the doll Greta Gruesome. Both are credited in the credits😂.
Vincent Price did the voiceover for the original Thriller
Thank you!
This is absolutely wonderful!!!
Yes!!

Elvis Vincent Price who did the narration.

You may be on to something. I'll have to go back and watch the OG
Vincent Price

Yes he did, I was not prepared!
