The fact that Geoff worked on this arrangement for years really paid off in the end. Wicked is one of my absolute favorite musicals and I’ve seen the show. He very masterfully wove together so many of the songs to tell the core story in just 7 minutes. I still hear new things every time I listen to this! And I will say, you actually did very well at guessing the story just based off their music video! Rachel is playing Elphaba (Wicked Witch), Emoni is Glinda, Eli is Fiyero (love interest who becomes the Scarecrow), and you were right about Geoff singing the Wizard’s part in “Wonderful”. Layne and Cesar don’t have character assignments.
Quick pronunciation note: ee-MAH-nee not EH-mun-ee. And yes, Emoni is portraying Galinda (later to become Glinda) and Rachel is playing the now-named Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West). Interestingly, Rachel (who had laryngitis on the day of filming) portrayed Galinda during the second national touring company of Wicked. The Wicked set features a large clock face, which is why they chose that backdrop to rent from TheatreWorld Backdrops. Eli and Geoff both covered Fiyero's (later the Scarecrow) song, Dancing Through Life, while Geoff is handling the Wizard's song, Wonderful. There are a lot of plot twists that take Elphaba from admiring the Wizard to being accused of evil (her skin color and being set up are just two). The Wicked Witch of the East is the one crushed by the house (black and white stockings/ruby slippers in the film) and is the WW of the West's sister. In this show, shses named Nessa Rose. Galinda and Elphaba sing For Good. The song, Defying Gravity, actually takes place at the end of Act One of Wicked. Geoff moved it to the end of the medley for its impact.
I loved your interpretation of this! Geoff arranged this one. There’s such a beautiful VoicePlay cover of Kiss from a Rose on their Patreon, featuring Emoni. I wish it were public for everyone to hear! But instead I recommend I Love Me, also featuring Emoni. It’s so fun!! An oldie, still having Tony as baritone.
I love their wicked medley! One of my all time favorites. Geoff did an absolutely amazing job on it. Loved your reaction hun. 💛 for not knowing Wicked, and only the Wizard of Oz your guesses are really good!
Thank you for working to get this reaction out to us, even if you did have to rerecord it. You pointed out a lot of great things, and I definitely didn't mind the longer deep dive.
I've never seen the show, the movie was delayed because of Covid. Voiceplay is so, so good at everything they do, that for now I'm not feeling bad about missing it. Great reaction!!
I watched voice plays version first and now I feel like I’ve spoiled the show cause when I’ve watched the stage show versions of the songs on UA-cam I’m like yeah it’s good but meh it’s not voiceplay. 😂😂
For Wicked, you cannot base the characters behaviors on The Wizard of Oz. Elphaba (Rachel) doesn't turn evil, she awakens to the repressions that those in power in Oz (ie, minimizing talking animals such as the Cowardly Lion) and she opts to leave society and work from the outside for reform. Glinda (Emoni ) also realizes this but she opts to stay and work within society. They are friends on opposite sides of the fence. Eli is actually the character that becomes the Scarecrow, he was the love interest of Glinda but he and Elphaba fall in love....there is a lot of story to the play that cannot be fit into this, though Geoff does an excellent job of getting as much in as possible. And the play has barely any information in it compared to the book (that came before the play). I would suggest finding Wicked and actually watching it. I have seen it three times now, twice in the Tampa Bay area and once in London. It is a great show.
It's online. I watched it when VP released this (hadn't been able to get to a theatre before to see it performed). But I wanted to see if I could find it so I'd be more familiar with the songs, etc. (I only knew Popular). I did have a panic moment when the video I was watching (on a free tv channel/app) cut off the end, but found the end on UA-cam.
I think I heard somewhere that Geoff worked on this arrangement for like 6/7 years! And I can see why it’s so intricate and just perfection. Eli did his usual mastery on the lighting which I think you’re the first to pick out such details which was nice . It’s such a fun performance. Laynes beatboxing in particular is insane!!!
I think Geoff’s reaction to kill the witch is more an inside joke. Geoff did play the sea witch in their Little Mermaid medley. There is also a very special look between Cesar and Geoff during For Good. I think it relays the true feelings that have developed between them since Cesar joined the group. At first I wasn’t sure if I wanted to see Wicked. The book it’s based on is very good, but very dark with an unhappy ending. Fortunately I was able to find that they changed the ending in time to enjoy the touring company production. (By the way, this backdrop that Geoff used is the same one used by touring companies.)
The motion picture of Wicked (part 1) is being released 11/27/24. Part 2 wis scheduled for 11/26/25. That’s probably as close to a stage production as I’ll see. Great job on your guesses to the story behind the music. Many are dead on, others nice speculation. I also loved how you used the lighting cues to clue you in on your guesses. I didn’t even catch all of those.
I'm sure you know that they always provide the credits below the title. No excuse for not knowing who did what. :) Wicked tells the story previous to the well know Wizard of Oz. A prequel if you will.
Honestly, I prefer not knowing. I like going into these with nothing to tell me what to expect. That way my react is as genuine as possible. I always find out as much as I can after though. Being able to ask my audience questions gives me a good excuse to interact with you all also!

I think my southern drawl got the best of me on that pronunciation😂

I've been working on a top ten songs Voiceplay should cover and Kiss from a rose was on the list!
I love their wicked medley! One of my all time favorites. Geoff did an absolutely amazing job on it.

😅 I thought they were too but it seems I was pretty far off. Oh well, I had a blast with it
@@1MannzOpinion for not knowing the twist of the story in wicked. Your guesses made sense. I followed the logic. 💛💛

I was going to see this in March last year at the Tampa show, but came down with covid so I missed it.
I may have to look into it!
One of my absolute favorite shows!!!
@@1MannzOpinion You can find some performances on YT some of the camera work isn't great but you get the idea and really understand the story..

I’m so glad you caught the looks between Cesar and Geoff, it’s so fun😂! And then so beautiful during Because I Knew You❤.

Glad you enjoyed, and it's cool to think I was close on a few of em.
A Chance to Fly (Wicked medley) is 7:43. Check out their longest (7:52 - it's close), The Little Mermaid Medley.
Hey, you're doing the amazing Wicked.
Yes, finally!
been excitedly waiting for this one, if you haven't yet check out their The Little Mermaid Medley it will blow your mind

So glad I can help.🙂@@katrinakhalatians2776
you have no idea
Defying Gravity is actually the 1st half ending song, so it ends differently than you think. I havent seen it, but have read a few things about it.
Really? 😂😅and I thought I was doing so well

Geoff had this as a long term project and he finally got it out there it’s amazing on every level ❤
