How many cutoff wheels do you use per week? LOL Great job as always!
Ha! I’m afraid to count. I do buy them on sale when possible. I’ve also gone through a few grinders. 👍🤓
You make it look easy😂 I have to tackle mine next wish me luck your videos give me motivation
Thanks for the nice comment Louis, a friend of mine used to say nothing is easy. You’ll do a great job on your project. Just study what you’re doing. Don’t be afraid to make a mistake. They are all fixable. Sometimes I need motivation also, right now I’m on the couch and don’t feel like doing anything. Ha! Have a great day.
@@busterstravels1534 thank you you as well👍
Love it Dave. Two things. You probably know them but I’d hate to see you do it/not do it and wished I’d said. Put the bakerlite heater tube back in before you put the pan back. They are pain in the butt if you forget ,I know😂 You’ll see the captive nuts on the bit you cut off so you’ll need to add them, plus you’ll need to add on the cross member the hole for the body to pan bolt, there’s two on each crossmember, you’ll see them. Apologies if I’m saying something you already know. The other thing is, you have the three pre-drilled holes for rear window popout catch on the inside of that C pillar, so you’ll probably have the pre-drilled holes for the hinge for the window frame in the window recess where the rubber goes near the B pillar, if that makes sense? It makes fitting rear genuine used popouts straight forward if you was thinking of doing it. I have a set to fit and if you do Buster will love all that air coming in from them and the roof👍🏼 Cheers Phil
Hello Philip, great hearing from you again. Actually I appreciate your foresight. You did remind me of the hassle I had putting in the Bakelite pieces in my son’s bug afterwards. It was very difficult. I even trimmed the flang to get it in place. I will make sure to get them in before assembly. Yes, I do plan on pop-outs I did hear of that drilling in the past but have forgotten. I enjoy hearing from you. Plus it helps very much. 👍🤓 Thanks buddy. Your knowledge is a plus.
Master at work .
Thanks Corey I have lots of experience but still have a lot to learn. You have a great weekend. Ty
Sometimes it's better to weld a washer on first and then a nut to the washer
Thank you Chris, you are so right. I didn’t think of that one. I will show that in the future. For now I hope people read your comment. 👍🤓
Right on point, as usual!
Hello Trixed Out. Ty the comment and your support. A subscriber chis also mentioned welding a washer to the bolt first then welding the nut on. That is a great way especially with less bolt sticking out.
Good tips there Dave. Made me think of a problem I have. Last heater channel installed, all sprayed up, finished, mated the pan back up but when I tightened down the pan bolts most of the captive bolts came loose. First time that had happened to me in all the times I’ve fitted them, so annoying with the part and with myself for trusting the part. Cheap parts no doubt, the channels and the closing plates used to be separate, so you could check and prep, rust protect etc then weld up, and the metal was thicker/better. Long and short, learn from my mistake, if your channel is a complete one, turn it over, drill out the spot welds and give the captive nuts a Dave special, lot’s of penetration👍🏼 Funny thing also, I kinda knew you was thinking it as I was, but when you said “try, try, try again” it did make me smile. Have a good weekend buddy👍🏼
U 2 fill-up, I have hear of guys having problems with heater Chanel’s as you describe. I have heard of guys spot welding before inspection to stop this failure. Enjoy your weekend Philip.
I tapped all the holes and ran all the bolts through the die. Only had to fix about 10!
Very good advice. 👍🤓
Its getting there Dave
I have a lot of inside work, I believe in a month hopefully I’ll be starting the body work 🤞
Nice job.
Thanks bud!
My name in lights, fame at last, my wife says I’ll become a diva now, I’m not star struck at all, honest🤩🤩🤩. Great job Dave, 40+ minutes of the best tv I’ve watched this week 👍🏼 I noticed a heater in your garage, what sort of winter’s do you have there? So where gets the mig treatment next, bulkhead?
Hello my friend, I thought you’d be surprised. After all we are collaborating on this build. You deserve some recognition.. hello to the wife. Wishing you a great weekend. I live in northeastern Pennsylvania. We get pretty cold long winters. We had frost today. I’m not fond of the cold weather but you have to take the good with the bad. I do like the four seasons. We have a very colorful fall. Have a great night.
Yes we had our first frost today also. We don’t seem to get seasons anymore here, the last 15 years of work and heading off to work at 4 & 5am, I can count on one hand how many times I encountered snow, and in my last winter working 22/23 I only had to scrape ice off once! My parents travelled all over the U.S. but particularly loved the fall.
Nice job. It going to be a unique Super Beetle for sure.
I believe so Romeo. I picture projects in my head completed and I’m seeing a good looking car. Thanks bud.
She came up with a very clever name! That is going to be a very well disguised Super with the dash, the lack of a gas door, no vents on the front, etc.!
I know I like being different. You have a great weekend.
Very well done! At this rate that car will be running in no time !!
Well I wish pstreet but I still have a ton to do My goal is by next July. Ty
Looking good
Thanks Chris, little by little I’m getting it.
Nice work as usual mate, your handy with a grinder car coming along nicely look after yourself
Thanks Russel , Saturday I’ll be starting the interior repairs. Little by little. You have a great weekend.
What kind of mod are you gonna do for the gas filler?
I’m going to relocate the filler neck. I will need to fill the tank by lifting the hood.
Very nicely done my friend!!!
Thanks Tony, I’m looking forward to starting on the inside repairs. Ha, it’s never ending.
I'm using truck bed liner as undercoating. Very happy with it.
I used truck bed liner on my sons. I likes it also. I wish the painter would get to my son’s paint job. Have a great night.
You are fearless with that whiz-wheel!
The wheel bites if you’re not careful. Have a great night ma Mamma and papa!
I like the idea of compressed air to cool. We used to use a wet rag.
Hello Ross I used water in the passed also. Air is just easier. Have a good day bud.
Great vidro Dave and great advice on many points. The pin holes are what I hate the most. And of coursr that heavy tar 😤
Yes frankly the tar sucks. I don’t mind the pin holes but when I’m finished with the body I will go over it well, for a second time.
Beautiful job on the cut and butt welds. Crazy about the foam. I think alot of newer cars have this type of foam in various areas.
Thanks buddy, I have a long way to go. 👍
Lots of good advice in this one really can get over welming one pach panel at a time looks great buddy cant wait to see the next one 👍
Louis thanks for watching. I enjoy bringing them back and kinda doing my own thing. My plan is to drive this one to Slades second annual next year. Ty again.
@@busterstravels1534 it is a lot of fun if I finish in time hope ill see you there 🤞
We’ll make it our goal.
Enjoyed that one Dave, as I do all of them. Once you’ve tackled that front quarter you’ve been all the way around 👏🏼 . Are you keeping the fuel flap or going early look on that, loosing it and modding the tank with an early filler in the boot/trunk? I’ve seen it done over here on a German Looker, looks trick, if you’re not using it daily it’s probably worth doing, and it’s another one of those custom bits that make people keep looking for more. It’s one of those mods that people miss until you point it out😂
I think you’re spot on again. Thank you for the idea. Ha! I should name this car Philip. After all it all your ideas. I like the way you think Philip. Ty again.
😂😂, well, I wish I had your skills to unlock what’s rattling around in my head 😂
Don't forget to bring the granddaughter in for guest appearances. Cameos.
She enjoys the cameos. 👍🤓
Looks good.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle thanks Romeo, I have a lot more rust to remove. At least now I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve been doing a bit of buying and selling and I’m enjoying that also. Small scale of course. I really do plan on being a vendor next year in Ct. I think it will be a great experience. Have a good night buddy.
@@busterstravels1534 Where have you been posting your ads, for the parts you're selling?
@vintage76vipergreenBeetle just market place.

Yes. Just a few items and people who have bought are from Ny, Nj, and pa
I've been using Kleen Strip concrete and metal prep About $17 per gallon.
I’ll have to try it ospho is around 30.00.
You guys have a great night. 👍
I bought some Kleenex strip, I believe it is very similar. Ty
A labor of love again a great clear video with great teaching thank you
I try my best to show what I have learned over the years. I try to have fun and help in someway. Thanks Russel for your support. Russel have a great week.
did you put door to mesure same height
No,I didn’t Carlos. Notice I left the B pillar the original length . I have learned from prior projects that works. Plus when I drew the line I figured in the thickness of the metal. That’s when I said cut on outside of the line. As long as the B pillar is in good shape it makes it easier. Have a good night. Amigo.
I love all your sage-like advice! Great video!
Thanks TrixedOut, I try to have fun with it.
I made, under the camper, a box where the diesel heater is in. On the outside I attached the pump and the filter. The box worked as a sound box, a lot of click click sound. Today I made your system, with a sponge as an insulator, where the pump and filter are in, placed in an electricity box. Inside the camper you hear nothing at all from the pump. Now I want to make the air filter and exhaust quieter. Thanks for the useful tip. Willy.
Mbu745, have a great day. We love the diesel heater. I still get a little clicking. But it doesn’t bother me. It’s very faint. 👍🤓
I am about to begin this same project myself and have been looking for EXACTLY this video. THANKS!
Well I hope my video helps is someway. If you have any future questions don’t hesitate. What state are you in? Have a great day buddy.
I have another on death foam maybe 3 videos ago. Check it out.
@@busterstravels1534 Will do. Thanks!
@@busterstravels1534 I'll definitely reach out if i have questions. I'm in NC.
When you first started removing it, I thought it was a mouse nest! Thank you for sharing that!
Rodents do cause a lot of rust in old vehicles. They find a cozy spot, built a nest. Their urine.is very strong and over time causes a problem. The death foam does hold moisture and will also cause a problem. Have a great weekend.
Great work Dave! I'm on Fall Break now but I'm sick. Hopefully in a day or two I can start in on my bug again!
Sorry to hear you’re sick. Hopefully you’ll feel better very soon. Don’t be in a hurry, get well soon. Ty
I look forward to Friday mornings here in the UK, I always wake up to another great video😂. Dave, what’s the fluid you spray on in the atomiser bottle?
OSPHO, it’s a rust killer. Widely used in restoration. Philip, thank you again for your support. One thing I enjoy about UA-cam is making new friends like yourself. 👍🤓
Never heard of OSPHO before, but is now in my Amazon basket👍🏼 And yes totally agree chatting to like minded friends is a definite plus to these platforms, have a great weekend.
@@philp4842have a great weekend bud.
Outstanding brother!!!!
Thanks Tony, I been hitting it hard. I have to have it on the road for July 12th. 🤓
If I won the lottery Dave, I’d have one in my garage for sure 👍🏼
I’m going to ask if it is up for sale let me know. If it’s possible I’d love to add it to my collection.
Nice work. Thanks...and you are wearing golf gloves👍. Gonna have to steal some from my lefty son and give that a try.
I like wearing thin soft leather gloves. Never cared for thick stiff gloves. Thanks for watching, have a great weekend.
What were they thinking with that horrible foam cheap and nasty thanks for the video
@@russelblackwell6041 someone thought it was a good idea. Ive got along lot of videos planned for the future. Thanks for supporting Buster’s travels. Ty
Nice job. That project is moving along pretty well.
@@vintage76vipergreenBeetle it is Bud, but still tons of work ahead.
Next thing you know, you will be working on it !! 😂

Looking good boss. Just beware I found foam on mine a little higher up too. Back towards the engine compartment heading towards the roof.
Great job finding it. I couldn’t imagine completing a project then a year later seeing bubbles under the new paint. Worth the extra effort.
