A few years back I noticed a lot of people asking questions regarding RV's in several social media groups. I would do my best to answer questions to help others by sharing my knowledge but this would take a lot of time responding to others by typing and several questions that people ask are the same ones.
So I decided to start making UA-cam videos to share with others on how to perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot, make all types of repairs, and to be creative and make modifications and improvements to their RV.
Some of my videos can be long and detailed but I found it best to go into detail (you can skip through videos if you are mechanically inclined) in order for people that aren't that hands on are able to learn and hopefully feel confident after watching my videos will be able to perform work on their RV themselves to save money & avoid having to take their RV to a shop. You may be able to make better repairs than some of the RV technicians at a shop.

RV Hitch Receiver Installation - do you have the right one to handle your load?
Many of you may have already watched my last video showing our Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack. In this video I'll show you the Hitch Receiver I fabricated, installed, and tips should you want to fabricate one yourself or have someone make one for you, purchase a manufactured one, and install it yourself or have it installed.
IMPORTANT: The majority of stock trailer bumpers out there are NOT designed to attach a hitch receiver or anything else to it.

We were having problems with our RV shower doors closing on their own instead of staying open. It was a problem for us since we keep them open for additional room to maneuver in our small-scale bathroom plus having them open allows the shower stall area to dry/air out to avoid mold from growing. In this video I'll share what I found was causing the doors to close and how I corrected the problem...

Michael- I know you from your posts on the Lance 2075 FB group and have watched your videos and picked up some great tips. Thank you. As others have expressed, I too, am concerned about welding a receiver to a Lance frame. I have the luxury of a truck bed for our bikes, but not all trailer owners are in that situation. Because you are an experienced welder, you know much more that the average trailer owner in this area. So for your own equipment, I think you are good to go. You might want to add something about pre-2018 Lance light-weight frames not being appropriate for adding hitch receivers. I suppose, when done correctly and by an expert, adding such a hitch receiver to the stronger, more recent, Lance Z frame is probably OK especially if the user keeps the weight of the accessory plugged into the receiver within specs AND does not extend the accessory out too far beyond the receiver mouth. The bouncing, weighted leverage is a literal killer when it comes loose on the road and hits the driver following the trailer.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to share your knowledge with me and others. After reading your comment I'm going to write something in the video thumbnail to warn others to seek professional help because not all frames are not built the same (or something like that). And put something in the video description area mentioning this also. Unfortunately UA-cam will not allow me to modify video once posted at this time but may in the future, but I can modify the thumbnail I went into this project with all the concerns you mentioned and after a lot of thought I felt my plan to do what I did would work (I'm keeping eye on it to make sure the frame does not bend or crack and the welds hold up). Prior to installing this bike rack we were carrying our bikes in the back of our truck and decided to move them for a couple reasons. 1) It was a pain loading and unloading them out of the truck bed with our camper cover on. 2) With the bikes and other stuff in the bed of our truck it was hard getting to things. 3) We needed to reduce our truck weight so moving it to the rear of the trailer was a great option to get weight off the truck and reducing hitch weight. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
Good install my friend. Never did any welding but I did pick up a flux core welder last month at Harbor Freight for $100. Has pretty good reviews for home use
Thank you :) I've done a lot of welding and fabricating over the years and was a welder/fabricator for a company for 4 years and welded everyday and at other companies on and off between other maintenance work. I really enjoy working with metal. And wood also. Flux core welding will work, just make sure you run it hot to get better stronger welds. Here's a good tip to help prevent welding splatter: Spray the outside and inside of the tip and the surface are you are welding with anti splatter spray (here's a example - amzn.to/4g1WPSP) To keep the tip clean and do other things with here's a good tool (here's a example - amzn.to/3OplLYC) Harbor Freight might sell these items. Another tip: practice welding different thickness of scrap metal together and see if you can break them apart.
This has been so incredibly helpful we bought our RV in 2014 and our seal just started leaking last month. I thought. For sure it was a toilet replacement job but 100% it’s what you just showed today. Cleaning it with toothbrush etc nothing work. I’ll be going next weekend to fix it. Thank you!!!

How to turn off the display ?
Thank you so much for watching and your question. The display turns off by itself when you stop using it after around a minute or so
Hi Michael, very good video. I understood everything but had one question. I am assuming you had to run a new 10/3 wire from the inverter to the panel as the manufacture would not have put that large of a wire for a 1000 watt inverter. Is that correct?
Thanks again Robert. Yes I installed a 10/3 wire from the 2000 watt inverter to the Automatic Transfer Switch. Since our trailer had no inverter prior to me doing this project I felt it was important to install the proper sized wire for the job. I'm not sure what size wire the manufactures are installing from 1000 watt inverters. What travel trailer do you have?
i noticed you removed the underbelly covering. Did you do anything to prevent rodants from getting in since the unerbelly is gone?
Thanks for watching and taking the time to ask your question Robert. We bought our trailer new and it came without a underbelly, maybe because we live in California and there is no real reason to have one here. We owned this trailer 6 years and never had a rodent problem and camp pretty much year round every other week at 3 nights each time and travel cross country every other year for a few months. Camping mostly in county and state parks where there are several rodents. One of the first things we did when we bought the trailer was to make sure we sealed up all the locations where anything would try and get in, like holes around pipes, etc. I believe that having a underbelly creates a space for them to get in and create nests and harbors them for the elements outside and allows them time to chew into your trailer.
@@thetraveltrailerguy thanks for you reply. I had sealed all the openings on the underbelly but a rodent stil managed to get in. I live in Texas, so I guess the floor would get pretty cold in the winter wihout one but totally agree that it would be better without it. Also not having one would make it easy to inspect and fix things especially if you are on a trip. I may remove it when i buy a new RV this year since I don't plan on using the RV in winter conditions. I like your videos as they are very detailed and you take the time to EXPLAIN and SHOW what you are doing.
@@RobertJory10 Thank you so much for your kind words about my videos. I wonder where rodent was able to get in? was it a mouse, rat or something else? Here's a video I made on where I store a portable waste water storage tank that I could not have done with a underbelly - ua-cam.com/video/HChZHrz5psk/v-deo.htmlsi=EuohF-jkO2gJ6Op9 Here' my "About" information I shared on my UA-cam page. I'm not sure if you read this already - A few years back I noticed a lot of people asking questions regarding RV's in several social media groups. Pull butyl tape away from itself to make it easier to remove. We used it at the window and door factory I worked at.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to educate me Kathy. Your tip will come in handy next time I go to remove this stuff, thanks again :)
i just bought a 2017 and it has this problem. How long did this take you? I need to do this!
Thanks for watching and for asking this question. It took around a total of 4 hours to complete. I did leave the adhesive to harden over night before I installed it back in the trailer. The ridged insolation is the ticket to strengthening the whole bed (you will notice the big difference doing this). I hope this information I useful. Here's a video I did awhile after fixing the bed frame that you might consider doing - ua-cam.com/video/cfoZuvQibvM/v-deo.htmlsi=3LG1gGu2wctoKaXR This is what I used in the video: (Qty 2) 20 Inch 30 lbs Gas Prop Lift Springs Rod Struts Heavy Duty - amzn.to/3AVjeQq 1 year UPDATE: I just got back from camping a few days after this video was put out and I'm happy to report the new struts did the job, no more creaking noises. I'm so happy its finally fixed and that I went with the 30 lb struts :) Our Murphy bed was making irritating creaking noises every time we moved around while sleeping. This was driving me nuts trying to figure out where the noises were coming from. I did some work that made it stop and I'm pretty sure I put a stop to this irritating sound for good. Is this happening to you? and if so how did you fix the problem? Word of Advice: before you go out and buy new struts for your bed to correct the problem make sure its actually the struts that are causing it.
For that $$$$ you should have went 1 200amp hr Lithium, would of got ya further..last WAAAAY longer....
Thanks for watching and your feedback. At the time I couldn't afford to go the Lithium route. Our 2019 2375 is currently in the shop with a broken frame curtesy of pot holes our Interstates. We carried nothing on the bumper and traveled most of the time with 1/2 tank or less of fresh water. It’s looking like insurance is going to total our trailer and we’re not sure we want another Lance after this experience. I’ve share pictures and details on the LOA forums and in one of the Lance FB groups. Point is, even with the nice job you’ve done on this installation and the fact that the Lance claims the bumper can carry some weight, with what I’ve seen and what I know now, I would NOT be comfortable adding any extra weight to the rear of that model Lance - perhaps any Lance.
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience. I've seen your post and pictures in the Facebook groups. I have driven the interstates that are really really in bad shape with huge potholes that can not be avoided, in fact those potholes bent two of my axle spindles on the passenger side and I had to replace them :( I'm watching frame and may add additional structural support if needed and share what I do in a video. I sure appreciate you taking the time to write.

Is there a check valve on the city water inlet? If not what is keeping water from being pumped from the pump back out the city water inlet?
Great Question :) Yes there is a check valve built into the city water inlet. Thanks so much for watching and your question, I appreciate it. Could I wire these into an Alpena 15" Terra off-road light bar? Any special preparations/care that I would need to take? Thanks.
I'm not sure if dimmers will work with a light bar. I would contact the light bar company and ask them. It may work or it may damage the light bar?
@@thetraveltrailerguy ok thanks for the reply. I have, just been waiting to hear back
@@BoDiddlydodah I'm thinking you can install a dimmer since I see some light bars do have dimmers.

Just got one of these in trade. It works perfectly. However it never powers off. Simply stays on at all times? Very strange. Even the cheaper harbor freight ones power down?
It should be powering off. You might try calling Dewalt and letting them know what problem your having and they may just send you a part to repair it? Its worth trying. Here's a video that I just found that may be helpful - ua-cam.com/video/Til5sVhvkD4/v-deo.htmlsi=TpHaS1TObjSRUVll
Great video. I am a second owner so will probably have to pay for my axle. Planning on ordering the axle bare, without the brake and hub assemble. Will save me about $500 per axle. Otherwise, you are looking at $900 plus plus freight and then tax in my state.
Hello Byron, I would highly recommend you complete a warranty form even if you are the second owner. Please read what I send to another viewer, your chances are every high in receiving a free replacement axle. If they do provide the axle and you are the second owner they call it "As a customer goodwill gesture" for the free replacement "Thanks you so much. I've included the Dexter online warranty claim form and limited warranty policy below. The warranty is for original owners only so you will see the question asking this on the form, if not be honest and select NO. If you do they may respond with an email asking if you are the original owner, be honest and let them know you are not and let them know your situation and they may send you a axle "As a customer goodwill gesture" Its important that you fill out the form completely as they look at it to approve or not approve the replacement or replacements of both axles. Provide pictures showing a straight edge on the wheels to show they are out of alignment. Check both sides of the trailer and if its only one side let them know that. If you have uneven tire wear take pictures of the tire wear. Make sure you provide as much information in the "Describe your issue" area. If draw a picture of the tops of all you 4 tires showing the tire groves, and write front of trailer and back of trailer. Take a tire tread depth gauge (amzn.to/4fBR0w7 ) and measure of the depth of each tread and record it on your drawing by each tire, take a picture of your drawing and submit it with your photos and mention what you did in the "Describe your issue" area. I hope this info is helpful, please feel free to ask more questions and let me know of the outcome." I know this sounds bizarre, but most bike rack manufacturers (including Swagman) will void your warranty if you use a cover due to the extra wind resistance. I just discovered this fact today and I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet since my Lectric e-bikes do not have water resistant electronics. Great detailed video as usual!

What size ringer terminals did you use for the 10/3 wire forN,G,L ? Mine aren’t fitting and am using #10 rings
I did not use any ring terminals to connect the 10/3 wires to the inverter. Remove the cover with 2 screws under that you will 3 screws (this is where you are now), loosen all 3 screws as far as they will go, under the 3 screws on the side of this area you will see where you slide the wires into holes, then tighten the screws to hold the wires in place. Note each of the individual copper wires will need to be twisted really tight in order to fit into these holes (some people struggle with getting them into the holes so be patient it can be done). I hope this helps, can you please let me know if it does?
We have had the understanding that Lance trailers cannot support anything on the rear bumper and no receiver hitches. We have a 2019 2295 model. Can you advise? We'd love to be able to carry e-bikes back there.
Hello Julie you are correct to not attach a receiver hitch to the back bumper. I mounted my hitch receiver assembly to the frame, so nothing is attached to the bumper except the bumper. Keep an eye out next Friday 10/4/24 in the afternoon I will be sharing another UA-cam video showing the receiver hitch I installed that the bike rack is attached to.

I load my Lectric e-bikes on my Swagman E-Spec by pulling the bike somewhat past the end of the rack, then I engage the rear wheel brake, pull back on the handlebars which lifts front tire,. I then swing the front tire over into it's tray on the bike rack. I then grab the rear luggage rack and lift the rear of the bike again swinging the tire over into it's tray on the bike rack. If it's the front bike, I then just transfer it to the forward trays, lift the center bar, and proceed to secure it down. I then just repeat with the second bike. This way I'm never lifting the entire weight of the bike.
Thanks so much for watching and sharing. I really like how you are loading your bikes, I wish I had thought of that. I appreciate you letting me & others know. Hopefully others will read your comment. One question for you - How are you liking your bike rack and how long have you had it?
@@thetraveltrailerguy I am thoroughly pleased with my Swagman E-Spec bike rack. We used to fold our Electric e-bikes, put them in tubs, and put them in our trailer. This is so much easier and enjoyable and we take the bikes more than previously.
What a great job I've been watching a lot of videos on this tape. You did an awesome job on this project ! My skylight has been leaking firva while. I've patched it many times with flex seal tape & spray but it doesn't last. Im gonna be using Eterna Bond to fix it this time. Thanks for a great video!!👍👏

Good show Michael. We talked about getting Ebikes also, but I think we are too old for that. Ha. We had a good season of camping this year. Hope you did too. Oh yeah, that’s right, you camp you’re around don’t you?
Thank you for watching another one of my videos again :) I hope you were eating popcorn while watching it :) That's great you were able to get out camping this year, we've been camping a lot this year. I'm not sure if I told you already but we went on a 10,000 mile 3 month long trip February - April with several stops from Northern California down south and along the coast to Key West Florida then up to North Carolina. It was a great trip and best of all the weather was great and it only rained a couple times in the evenings for a couple hours. Soon after we got home they all started getting hit with bad weather, lucky us and good planning by my wife (I just drive :) ). We pretty much camp year round every two weeks for 3 nights but we are home for a month trying to catch up on projects around the house.
These antennas look as cheaply made as the rv itself.
Yes they are, I wish they would put more pride in their trailers. We have owned a 2020 Lance 2375 since last September and its quality built so not many repairs are needed. What trailer do you have?
@@thetraveltrailerguy Had quite a few over the years. Our latest TT was a 32ft Cherokee by Forest River. The build quality of it was absolutely terrible so we got rid of it. Just recently bought a 2250s Sunseeker motorhome. Same story but with the ford E series chassis, it gives me a little incentive to actually fix and upgrade many of the cheap deficiencies it the RV part of it.
Thank you so much for these videos. I now have the confidence and skill to do this on my camper without having to bother my children or hire a contractor.

Quality work, quality video. Great application of the seal tape using the backing to advantage. That helps reduce air bubble a LOT. Did this myself, easy mod. We have a friend with a lower end TT and it came with valves from the factory. We bought a higher end TT and it had caps. On the plus side ours are easy to reach while theirs requires crawling under the trailer to access them.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to share your experiences. Its interesting how manufactures switched from installing valves to just placing caps on the ends (saving money). You got lucky having a trailer with drains that you can get at easily, they should all be built this way. www.youtube.com/@thetraveltrailerguy/videos
