Where did you get that fancy shrader tool? DVO shows the same looking one in their service manual and I can't seem to find it in my numerous google searches.
In 2024 many people use these forks over 300$ forks.
I have some drawings for a linkage fork... Gotta make it look awesome is the fun part haha
I really want to make a "modern" long travel 29'r Amp style fork, just for fun.
the seals are too expensive for me. is there any cheap ones from china that fit ? what is the outer diameter ?
These forks deserve quality seals. Cheap seals don't work well, and won't last long.
@@ButterSuspension i have cheap seals on my sherman and its working just fine
@@Juos10kustuI got nothing, sorry.
@@ButterSuspension thanks anyways.
And we're back. So great to hear from you again. Best MTB and Suspension Channel. Cheerio from Germany. ✌✌🙏🙏. I can't believe it's not butter ! If you butter it, they will come.
Great video....thanks
You're welcome!
Congrats on the new workshop, fabrication shop, and museum. Looking forward to more progress videos
Awesome! When can we start sending forks and shocks?
Any time! But I do everything by appointment so reach out before you fire stuff out.
@@ButterSuspensionYou bet!
Holy cow! that's an upgrade
tell everyone you meet you are looking for a lathe. keep dropping that hint. with a little luck and patience you'll find one
Looks awesome Greg!! 🎉
Can't wait to see it finished!
Fun. I’m in the beginning stages of a much smaller version in my back yard for bike storage and maintenance putting to use all those rebuilding skills I’ve learned from your channel. Best of luck on the new HQ
Congrats!🎉
Great news love you’re work
OMG that’s amazing ! ❤ Can’t wait for the next videos!!
does it mean in future we can drop off the shocks directly at that place ?
You can drop off at the new spot soon! Hoping to move the "work necessities" over this week.
Why does the SRAM service manual say that the Schrader valve core must be removed before taking off the top cap?
They really want to make sure nobody gets hurt; best way to know there's no air inside is to remove the core.
Lets be honest. 90% of riders dont even understand what a high level of performance is.
Sure, but everyone understands broken teeth!
@ButterSuspension ........o'cmon. You cyclist guys are so over the top with this. Yall love to get ripped off. Spending as much for bike forks as a premium shock and spring setup for my audi. It's goofy.
@@EPTRotorsportsyou're right, a $200 bike is totally fine. 😂 Just like a $1000 used car would be fine, right?
You did notice full travel back then. First Lockout that really worked.Permanent.😂
The AMP worked 9 months. 3 to get everything going, then 3 where it worked and getting looser the last 3. Then send in to service ...another 3 months.😂 Damn that thing was light and rigid. Suspension travel of that Thing would now be called SAG.😂
Beautiful. And those hubs are 👌🏻
Big clap, G! 🎉
Props to Jose! Excellent camera work! Thanks on the refresher.. been a while since I took an old Z fork apart.. got a Jr. T on the operating table and man, do I hate pulling oil seals.. Your tire lever+screwdriver trick (out of Pedro's fresh shoehorns) is working very well.. key is to exert great force slowly, with great control, going around like you would to tap off a crown bearing race off a fork.. can't go balls out, gradually increase force till it starts moving. I'll let you know how it went..)
Dude. Solid video. You’ve obviously have done a few. 😂 I’ve been out of the bike shop game for a few years and only have worked on Command mechanical posts. Looking forward to diving into my Verb thanks to your vid. Now where did I place those old chopsticks to use for cleaning inside dropper posts?
I have the Marzocchi Bomber Z3. Would you be able to rebuild mine? If yes, how can I contact you.
You bet. Send me an email. greg@buttersuspension.com
It's as good as a rockshox recon, in everyway . $300 shock
As someone who works on Rockshox forks every day for the last 8 years, I have to disagree.
tibetan throat singing background noise was a bad idea. Otherwise great video!
Hey there! My brother recently died from a fentanyl overdose. I'm rebuilding his bike which is nothing fancy, an old Next Mountain Ridge. I am mostly finished, just need to take it in for a tune up but I would like to rebuild the fork. Are there any kits to rebuild these old cheap forks?
Those bikes aren't really designed to be serviced at all; when the whole bike is $150 brand new, the only way to make a bike that price is to not consider service when designing the parts. Sorry to hear about your brother.
@@ButterSuspension Thank you for responding. Well, that definitely makes sense! I guess that means I need to start shopping for a 1" threaded fork! I read on one of the bike forums a bit ago that they are hard to find and expensive. This ought to be fun though! Any recommendations would be appreciated! Also I wanted to say thank you for the kind words.
Can you use it please
I do use it! It's on my single speed Voodoo.
Great Video!! Question, I like the procedure for setting the right level of oil which you demonstrate. Can this be done for first generation reverb (A1) with external cable? Also same question for the method of isolating the post rebuild from the lever bleed, can I do something similar with the A1 model?
External Reverbs are almost a different beast. The oil height setting method is different since the air and oil chambers are flipped. Also, because the actuator isn't inline with the post on externally routed models, the only way to test for function on those is to hook up the hose.
@@ButterSuspension got it make sense. thanks for the quick response. I'm making sure I'm not missing any trick as I follow the sram procedure step by step.
Great video. Thank you. But … horrible product. Ditch this dropper post completely unless you want to do this ridiculous bleed job or a full service every few weeks. Fluid dropper is the lamest idea ever. My brand new Santa Cruz came with a reverb … never worked from day one. No wonder they finally stopped putting them on their bikes. After four trips to the shop, finally trashed it for the One Up v3 … cable and it works. Lighter, better, easier.
I stopped arguing about Reverbs online so... agree to disagree. There's over 8 million Reverbs out in the world, I've rebuilt hundreds and my personal post is a Reverb AXS. That OneUp is gonna need service at some point! (I do agree the hydraulic hose is unnecessary!)
When the Nihonsei/Japanese took over the '80s Transformers cartoon as well as the toy manufacturing, they made a little customized fire truck that was sold in 1988 as Seiberturon Kabu/Cab (or Autobot Hosehead in the US). I've been trying to ID what real world truck is was probably based on, but it has been hard because they molded a ton of extra bits on, to up the coolness factor. But this vid was a lot of fun. Still not sure, but it would be easy to imagine this fire truck turning into a little Autobot that could. Turansuform! 😂
Thank you 😎
Thank you, I have a 1997 Judy SL that needs a major refit/rebuild and this video along with SRP parts, I should make out OK. 😎
Quit smacking your lips when you talk.
It's my tongue, not my lips. Thanks for watching!
Doug demuro be proud
I wonder if he's seen this...🤔
Greg have you done a topaz 3? Any thoughts on those?
Only seen one of those through the shop. Definitely improved over the first gen stuff, I think all rear shocks should have stronger damper shafts! The reservoir position is a little trickier to work on but it fits more bikes/frame sizes.
Athens ;;
Awesome loved it thanks super pumped to dive into the rebuild of my Z3's
Would this be the same kind of procedure for a 2003 Junior T Fork?
Should be, yeah. The oil height or volume would be different, and there may be some other additional parts because of the length, but it's basically the same.
@@ButterSuspension thank you!
Can you convert these to coil? Thanks
Yes! specialtyretroproducts.com/product/mountain-steed-springs-by-srp-for-rock-shox-judy-dh-sl-xc-fsx-quadra-speed-efc/
Thank you from 2024! I have an old s-works m2 with one of these forks and i really need to rebuild it, you gave me the knowpedge to do it.
emerald IS brat
I don't know what that means 😂
My rebound setting knob, that itty bitty thing on the top fell off. Is there any way to set the rebound other than this?
If you have the same year fork as these, the knobs are for spring preload. The rebound adjustment takes a small flat head screwdriver and that adjuster is inside the preload knob.
@@ButterSuspension Thats exactly what broke, so I wonder if I could set it up manually inside at least. The fork works and I did a service, but the rebound is super slow now and I dont know what to do. Dr. Zocchi told me to just buy a new cartridge, because it would be a pain to repair it, but I dont know
@@ondrejmanych5688 aha, yeah, that makes sense. I've replaced the rod in the past, but only because I had a random part lying around to replace it. A new cartridge would be easier.
Beautiful bike and lovely video...thank you for your work!
Thanks for watching!
it was filmed with the screwdriver ?
🤔
I have just ourchased a second hand frame that came wirh this exact shock after bukding the frame up, I noticed the shock make a sqelching type soind on compressing and decompressing. Is it normal for it to sound that way is it the air passing throughout the system? Or do i have a leak somewhere maybe? I have serviced my own front forks before and never had thay sound beforenor after.
Not normal, most likely has air in the damper. Used suspension almost always needs to be rebuilt, so I'd look into buying the tools and seal kit or sending it off for service.
