    I received a split diopter to try out but it is different. It has an entire coverage of glass except for a narrow band running through the center. "Center field split diopter." It's a 67mm filter so the actual glass is 62mm and the gap of no glass is 11mm wide. After seeing a few demonstrations like this video I am tempted to remove one section of glass so I have approximately a 50/50 coverage diopter like the demonstrated one. I can imagine more situations where half and half would be called for. The gap in the middle of mine only suited playing with softening and flaring candle flames while leaving the candle in focus. Also for creating light/dark bands of light falling over the scene depending on the source of light's angle and distance.

    I adapted this lens to a Micro Four Thirds camera, thinking that the sensor size would be about equal to 16mm... I was way off 🤦 All I see is a circle with the image really small in the middle. Sadly I didn't notice the comments section (about using a crop mode in the Sony cam). My camera doesn't offer this feature 😭

    color paper is Tungsten balanced with high UV and IR sensitivity so you will need a good UV filter. The Blue is about ISO 100, the Red is about ISO 25. wratten 85 filters // cine CTO terminology get you started. color paper in enlarger expects to be printed at approximate 40Red (that orange mask look) which is 40M+40Y. search on wratten 85 filters for a range of them.

    I have this lens with a C mount and "dogfinder" (it was used with a non-reflex Frezzi LW-16 news camera similar to the CP 16). I bought an E mount adaptor to try to use this lens on my Sony FX9 just to see what it looked like. I took the "dogfinder" off as it's obviously in the way and it's not an ordinary C mount, but there's no way to attach the adaptor after you take that off. I thought the "real" C mount would be underneath. I'm just wondering what sort of C mount is on your lens and exactly how it attaches to the adaptor.

    In big cities good public transportation is a must. Anyone who likes to drive their car everywhere forgets how deadly traffic accidents can be. The cost of keeping up a car, and honestly the stress also involved driving a car. I honestly think private transportation is only good in places with a low population.

    • @DaveBrusca

      You can use just about any focal length with it just fine. Longer lenses (or wider apertures) will make the effect more pronounced, but harder to hide the edge of the diopter lens.

    I love these. I'm a big fan of 70's films, and always noticed DePalma, Scorsese, Spielberg and more recently Tarantino often making use of these. I was also amazed at how cheap they are today considering their effectiveness in my opinion (I saw a guy on a doc talking about the making of Carrie talking about it's use in that (a scene in a classroom which focuses on both Carrie and Tommy Ross which I actually chose to talk about in a film studies class) and just assuming they'd be pricey or maybe hard to achieve a good shot. Just bought one for £18 (for DSLR), and bargain if you ask me.

    Hi Dave, Thanks for the very thorough review. Information about how the menu controls work, size of fixture for traveling and light output is extremely useful. I am considering purchasing the bee 50-c as background lights for small interview set-ups. Just want to break up or 'pepper' a dark background with some color...highlight small areas or objects in the background. Need the output similar to an Arri 150w or 300w tungten, need to spot the light and cut with bar doors and need the RGB to dial in some color. I'm so tired of buying gels! My question is, with the clip on frenels & barndoor, do you recommend this light for this type of use? If you know of another RBG light that you recommend in this price range, that can act as a frenel, please let me know. Thanks for your time!

    • @DaveBrusca
      @DaveBrusca 3 роки тому

      I did get the clip on fresnels for the 50-c, and they are great. Output is definitely between the Arri 150 and 300 depending on beam angle with the clip on fresnels (in most comparisons, just under half the 300). I use the wide fresnel when I put my soft box on as it can double the output from my crappy box without making a hotspot. I don't have the PAR reflector, but experience tells me that it will have higher output than the fresnels, and you can probably put drop in fresnels in it too. I was trying to keep my kit as small as possible, so I didn't pick them up. The 50-c would be a good light for what you are looking to do. It would take a more expensive light to get any more power with RGB. If you wanted a cheaper RGB LED to just make a splash of color and are OK with a tube light, the NanLite PavoTubes are pretty good. I have a similar light, Astera Pixel Tube, for when I don't need the beam control (It's older and not anywhere near as easy to work with as the NanLite).

      @@DaveBrusca Thanks Dave! I really appreciate your time to address my questions. Great advice! I'm glad the fresnels work good. I need to keep things small for travel as well so I wouldn't want the PAR reflector either. I'll take a look at the other options you recommended. It's so hard to figure out what to buy without actually using it, so thank you for the great information!

    Hi, I understand when you know the type of the mount and also the adapter for it then things are easy. But what about me? I bought a vintage cine lens. Mount diameter is 16 mm. I do'nt know what type of mount it is. Its not C mount. I have C-EOS M adapter which does not fit on it. I guess I may require a special step up ring on which I could use C-EOS M adapter to use it on my Canon mirrorless camera. Your expertise would be highly appreciated. The lens was by mistake described as C mount. 1.5 INCH f1.9 SUPER COMAT TAYLOR AND HOBSON Lens ? MOUNT 16mm Movie lens. Do you have any adapters 1. which can adapt this lens to my Canon EOS M?2. Is there any D mount Cine lens to C adapter? Thanks for your expert opinion.

    • @DaveBrusca
      @DaveBrusca 4 роки тому

      What you have there is an 8mm lens. the (throat/mount) diameter of a 16mm lens would be 25.4mm. D mount is for 8mm. I do not know of any direct D to EOS M adapters, however fotodiox does make a D to C adapter in case you cannot find one. Link is: www.adorama.com/fddcpro.html I hope this helps!

    Does the barn door sink look still occur when using expensive light panels like Gemini or Sky Pannel s60? Thanks for the video!

    • @DaveBrusca
      @DaveBrusca 4 роки тому

      Lotto Productions The Sky Panels and Gemini are soft light sources, much like being in a softbox. Barn doors (or flagging) them will not have the picket fence effect of the traditional 1x1. The edge of the light will “feather” off when compared to a hard light source however, which aesthetically could be good or bad depending on desired look.

    • @lottoproductions8005
      @lottoproductions8005 4 роки тому

      @@DaveBrusca Thank you! Another question I have is do you recommend buying a soft box for the Gemini 1x1? or does that light in general produce enough soft light for any scenario? I'm trying to decide if I should go with the Gemini 1x1 or stay with my Aputure 300d Mark ii, Whats your opinion? I shoot music videos I like to stay using one main light source when filming

    • @DaveBrusca
      @DaveBrusca 4 роки тому

      Lotto Productions well the 300d II in a soft box would be about as bright as a Gemini 1x1, judging by their given Photometrics. The Gemini is RGBW, which is beneficial for sure, but the 300d II CAN be a hard focused light, also beneficial. Each has its own use there. Also remember that you can put the 300d II into a larger soft box, like a 3’x4’ (90x120cm), and have a softer light. Or it would have more output than the Gemini if you also put the Gemini in the soft box (if you could even do that).

    My concern with anything that has an app to control functions is that obsolescence is right around the corner. I feel at the mercy of the these companies no longer supporting the product as phones update. Then I own a paper weight. So, I see why the 50c is a better choice that the 25 but the price almost doubles between them. Looks to be an excellent light though. The omni colour looks more flexible than RGBW too.

    • @DaveBrusca
      @DaveBrusca 4 роки тому

      Robbie Keene I agree. The 50c is brighter, too (though as I said, only about 1/3 a stop) the slightly larger 50c also fits profoto speed rings better I imagine, as even it just fits my speedring before covering the 1/4 20 screw holes. The 25c might need the OCF speed ring as it is thinner, but who knows?

  • @teleking58

    My way of thinking about it is that is only one project. You are your one project. Everything you do, every distraction, every thing you do for relaxation, every place you go, every person you encounter, they all contribute to you. Every thing in your life influences your life. I think what I hear you saying is you are feeling unable to manage your time efficiently. You feel like focusing on a particular thing for a while negatively impacts other things you are trying to accomplish. I have experienced the same.My creative mind works in a discursive manner to the point of me feeling I lack focus. Don't get me wrong, some wonderful discoveries have happened because of this too but I do understand that waffling about feeling. I heard Neil Sedaka talk about this one time. He said he was trying to be a songwriter but he wanted to hang out with his friends, go to the beach and whatever. He decided to treat songwriting like a job. He would wake in the morning, make his coffee and head to the piano. His rule was he could not leave the piano until he had written a song. He said he did this for an entire year. He said most of the songs were pretty trashy. Getting something down to fulfill his self imposed regulation meant sometimes his standards were not very high and he would settle for almost anything he could qualify as a song. But, he also said out of that year came...he rattled about 10 songs that had been big hits. Wow. A little discipline of making himself set that time aside produced some amazing results. I have tried this at different times and it works really well. Divide up the projects you have and set aside a fixed amount of time each day to work on each. Set some accomplishment goals. Things add up much quicker than you think. I hope that helps.

    • @DaveBrusca
      @DaveBrusca 4 роки тому

      That is kind of what I do now. I treat my top 3 projects as my job. I wake up to have breakfast and start working by 9, I take a 1 hour lunch break, and finish working at 4. My production jobs being one of the 3. Though, I do take days to do nothing but think and reflect so I don’t go stale. It’s a balance between being productive and having the free time to just come up with stuff.

    In the quilting world projects that get put on the back burner so to speak are called UFOs, unfinished objects. I think we all have quite a few of those unfinished objects or projects. I think where some people get into trouble is doing too many things. I have that problem. I heard a former NFL quarterback do an interview. He related some advice told to him by an older Hall of Fame quarterback. He said the Hall of Famer told him that he could do many things on a football team but then the danger is becoming a jack of all trades and a master of nothing. I have pared back some things in order to concentrate on a few things so I can get really good at them. Photography is one of those things I want to get really good at. Yes, I do a lot of things with my dog. I still like to do art work, drawing, sewing etc. I guess for now I get a lot of inspiration from my dog, lol, and that carries over into my photography.
