  • Why can't I social media?
Edit: for future videos, I have fixed the background loop issue I noticed as I was editing this one.

Digging the green screen - I’ve tried various “auto post” systems and they always bother me as feeling fake - I think it just requires a habit change to get posting

Thanks! Yeah, I agree. I’m trying to force myself to be more involved so it will come more naturally.

The first thing you can and should do is post these videos to twitter at the time they go public. If you don't, you miss some people who monitor twitter instead of their UA-cam feed. Add many hash tags and let the UA-cam details explain the content...
The interest is down to the audience and social media through # tags allows the viewer to choose. No post means you have assumed no one will be interested. Of course sometimes our assumption will be right :)
Background is a cool idea, I'll try something like that myself now. A "how to video" would be interesting & for others could be helpful.
No need to reply, but if you do the "interactions" on the video increases... :)

Posting the videos to twitter is a good idea. I may have to give that a try. I don't feel like what I want to talk about will be uninteresting, just a combination of: everything has already been said/done before, and my own general lack of effort/resolve in communicating via social media. I used to be very antisocial, and have gained confidence through public speaking. I feel like I have to force my subconscious to match my conscious feeling and decisions.
I was planning on doing a "my shooting setup" video soon. It's been a big process for me trying to both slim down the time and cost of production while increasing capabilities.

If it is a personal confidence issue and a is my content new or different enough then I can understand your position well. Have a look at my blog alexjacksonsmith.com and you will see how I have worked to provide something that is missing in my field. (Street Photography).
Everyone talks about kit, but few are prepared to share their thoughts, experiences and their tricks. The problem is that the majority of any following is consumers and they only know megapixels and price tag valuations!
I know the problems you face, I think, and this is why I now concentrate on doing photography, interacting with people I value and creating open content when I think it has value to my personal private audience, not the masses..
One thing that helped me was a script. I use a small netbook with a wireless mouse, that is cheap and you can control the speed yourself... Or do what I prefer and make more of a podcast (as per my Streetcast series).

I love the green screen. Makes it look like you're in front of a window with the city lights in the background. That is cool!!! I'm not too savvy with social media. I pretty much limited myself to UA-cam and Facebook until I found out Seth Miranda was doing demos on Instagram. That is the only reason I joined it. I do like the platform. I have posted pictures but I have to say for me I can get spread pretty thin if I did all the social platforms. It gets to be too much to keep track of if you know what I mean. I like UA-cam because I can watch videos and learn some things. I like FB because I can keep up with family and friends. I like Instagram because I can watch Seth Miranda's demos :)

One of the great issues I have with social media is tendency to post regardless of relevance or import. I've been posting my photography on Insta for over a year and I still cannot see any benefit from doing so. I started because everyone almost everywhere said you HAVE to. Why? What benefit is there to be had? I know if I switched to posting photos of models in sexy poses my follower count would go up. What would be the point? I take those photos too but the advice is prevalent that you stick to a single subject/theme. Hey, I do all sorts of photography. Why narrow it down? I really do have a feeling that at this point it is impossible to gain a large follower count unless you are consciously manipulating the system or posting nothing but sexy images of women that are a step above pornography. I don't want to do either of those things. Am I doomed to a tiny follower count. Probably.

Yeah, one of my reasons for not doing more on UA-cam/Twitter/Instagram is I always ask myself the question "Has this been said/done before?" the answer is almost always yes. Occasionally the answer is "yes, but..." and that is when I post. I understand the idea that my perspective/skills/creativity/personality can help separate my work, It's just hard to see the trees through the forest sometimes.
