I've always found it baffling that people would unironically use one writer's productivity as a standard for another to follow. Tolkien took the better part of 20 years to complete the Lord of the Rings. Granted, there wasn't quite the anticipation for a sequel to the Hobbit that there currently is for the follow up books of aDwD, but frequency be damned if it's at the detriment of creativity, and that's the bottom line we have to consider as an audience. Do we want the books ASAP, or do we want them to be good? I can only imagine the burden placed on Martin's shoulders to finish the series the right way after the catastrophe that was the final leg of GoT, and let's not forget that this is something he's been working on for an incredibly long time. The burnout must be real.

Sanderson is a great writer...but it's just not my thing. Colors are the result of the sun reflecting off of an object. In no universe could colors be given by a sorcerer or stolen by a god. The difference between Sanderson and Martin is the whimsy...Farland and Sanderson are from a school of fantasy where wondrously impossible things can happen as a part of the magic system that have no correlation with natural laws. On no planet on any universe could people pledge their strength or bravery to a Lord to be added to their own personal attributes like in one of Farland's books. On no planet can someone's hair color be drained and given to someone else like in one of Sanderson's books. Both authors do a great job getting the reader over their suspension of disbelief while introducing such cartoony ideas, and should be commended. But some readers want their fantasy as scientifically viable as a good sci-fi or thriller.
