How could a Japanese sword have a dragon龍 pattern? In ancient times, only the Chinese royal family and official personnel could use dragon totems 龍圖騰. There are more than 100,000 dragons in the Forbidden City. The Chinese Identity in Question: “Descendants of the Dragon” Chinese call themselves "Descendants of the Dragon" . “The Descendants of the Dragon”: A Symbolic Han Blood Community. The holistic symbol of the Chinese is linked with the "dragon totem" and “dragon culture.” “dragon " is the Chinese emperor and official symbol of power. Why do Chinese call themselves "Descendants of the Dragon"? During the Qin and Han Dynasties, Confucianism began to be religious, and the idea of Taoism becoming immortal gradually became stronger. The dragon pattern began to appear as the image of the Four Spiritual Gods, which is the image of the blue dragon in the "Qinglong, White Tiger, Suzaku, Xuanwu" that we call today. Thin tail. The power of the great Chinese empire during this period was particularly vividly displayed in the "Qin Bricks and Han Tiles". Only the places where the ancient Chinese arrived and occupied. Chinese culture naturally appeared in these places. "Dragon" represents the power of the emperor of China in these places. In ancient times, half of Japan' s territory(倭國 in real history name) was controlled by China. There were Chinese palaces and some Chinese people living here. In today Japanese territory 日本 (as well as Korea and North Vietnam), nearly a thousand ancient Chinese tombs and a large number of unearthed cultural relics have also been unearthed. . It's really sad to think about how much cultural heritage was irreversibly destroyed just in WWII. You could have mentioned that one of the most famous Japanese Katana was stolen by the Americans and was subsequently lost! (not a spear, but honourable mention as it was even more famous than these spears AFAIK) In Germany, one of the world's biggest collections of dinosaur bones was hit by multiple bombs pulverizing pretty much everything. The same goes for the largest German collection of Ancient Greek and Egyptian artifacts (destroyed by a bombing raid) and the infamous Bernsteinzimmer (disassembled and lost) which may still be hidden somewhere, or destroyed depending on who you believe... These are just two countries of MANY.

The period when spears were prevalent on Japanese battlefields was from the late Sengoku period (around 1540) to the peace after Genna era (1615). The source of the theory that the katana was not the main weapon of the samurai is Masaya Suzuki's book Katana to kubitori, published in 2000. His book is full of speculation and has few primary sources, so it is not an academic book. His theory has had many errors pointed out by educated historians. 14th century Mongols wrote in their history books that the Japanese were not equipped with spears. 16th century Chinese wrote in their history books that they could not defeat the Japanese who used katanas even with spears, so they should also get their own katana.

Lack of a tsuba does not make a tanto a tanto, nor does hira-zukuri make a tanto either. There are plenty of tanto with guards, its a style of koshirae called hamidashi. Lot of misinformation in this video, probably written by a.i. half of this you can read on the dam wikipedia article on tanto.

Some corrections I notice: Swords are rarely primary weapons, during the period we think of as being the prime of the tachi, it was actually the yumi(longbow) that was the primary weapon of most samurai, while the samurai retainers and infantry and even Yama bushi monks would use the naginata glaive. It should also be said the tachi only really leaves service after the edo period, in every prior period the tachi is useful as a cavalry sword. Furthermore although this is mostly speculation, Kodachi seems somewhat like an old word for wakizashi as I believe they come to be made before the idea of Daisho (big little) was yet fully conventional, I have seen modern Japanese speaking martial artists use the term kodachi for any short sword including wakizashi
