The center of gravity of the tachi is on the handle side, and it can be handled with one hand, so it can be used by cavalrymen as well. Cavalrymen are equipped to prevent the tachi sheath from hitting the horse's belly. Uchigatana is a katana developed for infantry. In order to increase the effectiveness of the slash, the center of gravity of the blade is at the tip of the uchigatana, and it is handled with both hands. Uchigatana allows you to change the center of gravity by replacing handguards with different weights, allowing the user to choose between power and operational performance. Samurai use a close combat martial art called kumiuchi against armored soldiers. In this case, the samurai uses the short katana, wakizashi. kumiuchi changed to jiu-jitsu and judo.
The theory that Mongolia influenced the development of katana is a myth without primary sources. The Mongol soldier attacking the samurai in the picture was added later. So if you compare them with the paintings of other Mongolian soldiers in the overall picture, you will see that the people who drew those pictures were different people. There is a theory that the paintings were added so that the samurai could get paid more, or that someone wanted to educate the public about foreign threats at a time when Japan was starting trade with Russia.

Thanks for the video. The link above at the time is me cutting with an odachi with 120cm blade that I designed for the student Edwin, on a thigh grade target. :D

    断ち切るに当て字を付け太刀と呼ぶ。作製者は源満仲であり中国から来た等の嘘を流してはいけない。全て日本の文化だ。

Swords in ancient times came from Korea not China.
