Your advice and comments have been brilliant. I agree with Alistair in where sewing bee is heading. It reminded me of my O level qualification it was called Dress and design. We had to make sample pyjamas which my favourite teacher told us would cover most of the basics in sewing would need. French seams, buttonholes, collars and cuffs etc. she was right us always tack and press as you go. I have found this series frustrating to watch. Well Fone to everyone.

I've come back to sewing after 40 years. I've followed this natter, and enjoyed it as you've all given your particular views from different sides of sewing.I've always tacked and used tailor tacks for darts, and now fabric is so slippy and stretchy, I shall continue. I can't wait to see how you go forward. This needs to be a regular series .

I think Luke was a worthy winner out of the three finalists. However, it's hard to identify the target audience for all of the three challenges. I doubt if many (or any) home sewists would make opera gloves or set about making a special occasion outfit by purchasing a very expensive, custom sized mannequin and draping fabric over it. I attended the North East Frocktails event last night where forty or so keen sewists sashayed across the catwalk in their hand sewn garments, all specially made for the event from patterns. That's what we want to see, surely? That, and some useful feedback for the contestants (and the viewers) on how to improve their sewing skills. Thank goodness for this natter channel! As for garments made from paper party ware... 🤔 Mind you, you were once able to buy paper knickers! I'm not sure if they're still available.

I thought that Luke was a worthy winner, he was improving week by week. He was so humbled to have won as he never expected it. The final challenge was very difficult but Luke did it very well. I hope that all the finalists can move on with their sewing journeys. I have enjoyed your critique sessions and hope to see more . Thank you

I agree that the emphasis seems to be more on design than actual sewing. What happened to the original concept of amateur sew-ers proving themselves ? Sewing Bee needs a revamp, with different judges, and a presenter who has a modicum of intelligence !

I do a lot of tacking. Experience has taught me that as Alistair has said several times, it is quicker than pinning and having to unpick and resew, maybe several times. I like accurate seams. I use quilt clips when I am sewing simple jersey seams (not needing tacking) as it avoids destroying your overlocker blade with a rogue hidden pin. Ask me how I know! While I thought Luke was a worthy winner I felt that all the challenges were directed at Luke's particular strengths which are design based not sewing skills based.

I was taught to baste when learning sewing at school and from my mother (too many years ago to think about!), and had let it slip by the wayside for many years. I now baste again in certain situations, the main one being for attaching cuffs on stretch fabrics before putting them through the overlocker. Trying that with pins or clips is nigh on impossible.

I definitely agreed with Luke winning this series. I think they need to revamp the format as this years was not as good as previous years, I feel it has become too formulaic and less about actual sewing skills.I feel the introduction of a masterclass with all contestants trying to emulate it would be much more interesting and useful than a transformation challenge that only produces landfill. Love the natter every week, please continue it, cant wait a year!

Hi Alistair and Kim. Thank your and your guests for the last 10 weeks of great natters and informative advice. In my teens I started dress making and everything was pined basted and then sewn after a try on. I am now in my seventies and have brought my pin and baste to my quilting. I always baste my 3 layers on my quilts find it easier to sew. I think Luke was a well deserved winner although all contestants were great. The transformation challenge was so wrong, how can anyone make a wearable garment with paper plates, tablecloths, bunting and napkins. As Essie proved touch it and it tears. I look forward to next week to find out what you both have planned. I also hope that the next series of Sewing Bee gets a bit more back to basics to encourage all age groups to have a go.👍

so enjoy all your comments far more entertaining than the actual programme. Have been disappointed and think the winner should be chosen on the overall makes they made especially this time as no one got their final make right, Luke left off so many frills on the skirt but it did not seem to matter to the judges.

I agree with Alistair about the basting. also I don't know why they don't tailor tack their darts. It's so much quicker than this new idea of folding the pattern back and drawing them. I have watched the bee from the beginning and this has been the most boring. It's time to change thing up and I think it's time for Esme to retire especially if you judge things on the colour. I have really enjoyed your reviews. look forward to what you have in store for us viewers..

Thank you for all your comments over the 10th series of the Sewing Bee. You certainly opened my eyes to draping and how difficult it was. I was certain Pascha/Bourbon was going to win but as I watched the last episode I thought it was more and more unlikely. I hope Alistair isn’t right about the new direction the Sewing Bee might take. I would love to see it go back to a straight forward sewing programme. Look forward to hearing your news next week. 😀

Thanks so much for doing these videos. My hubby and I so enjoy listening to your views. We are complete novices and laugh at the times the contestants are given to do projects as it would take us that time to even get our heads around what it is they are being asked to do😂. So excited to hear you are going to continue with the videos as we love them so much. One thing we have definitely learnt is “basting” is the name of the game 😂. Thanks again and look forward to the very exciting videos coming our way xxxx

Thank you for the very informative natters. I had a thought about the last transformation, perhaps if there was repair and bond in the haberdashery they could have used that to keep the paper sections or even bunting together to make a more stable structure.

Maybe the BBC should consider letting Kim and Alastair have their own programme, even once a month . It would be inspirational as the earlier Sewing Bees were. The contestants were so brave ! I have sewed for 60 odd years and would not have got through the first challenge.

I have learned so much from you guys! Thank you so much. I look forward to your series going forward. I'm in the US so I don't think you want me in the drawing. I thought Ailsa was the best, early on, but she got to a point where she seemed out of her depth. By the end, I didn't care who won, I liked them all. If I were in the sewing bee I would be the one who goes out the first week. I would be in over my head on the very first challenge. It takes me three hours to cut out a pattern.

Oh please don’t say this is the end! Seriously, if it wasn’t for you Kim and Alistair and all your creative and talented guests, I doubt I would have stuck with this series. It has not been my favourite. Instead it’s been a journey away from the original concept of the show, which was to showcase the actual skills and techniques of the amateur sewers, not to humiliate and make a joke out of the unwearable and unfinished garments they produced. Who wants to see contestants crying in frustration? It all got out of hand. BUT…. You guys saved me from switching off! I have just loved hearing Alistair’s professional opinions, and his tips and tales from Savile Row. Kim’s knowledge on the use of modern products for stabilising has been so useful to me. I am so keen to find out what you have planned next for your You Tube devotees. Your straight talking and good advice has kept me sane these past 10 weeks. Bless you all for that. Ps my mum and grandad taught me to use tailor tacks and I still do for all my sewing!

Can’t thank you Kim and Alastair enough for the weeks of chat along with the wonderful guests. Great to see Lizzy for the last one 👌🩷 I could listen to Alastair all day long with his knowledge of sewing 😊. So Opera gloves crazy but amazing, feel I’d love to have a go. Transformation I felt sorry for the finalists for what a load of rubbish was given to them 😢. Made to measure, well when they announced draping, transformation came to mind 😢😢, but they did their best in a very a difficult challenge, so yes Luke’s was a stand out winner. Looking forward to seeing what comes next on your future UA-cam ideas 😊🎉🎉🎉 from Di xx

I feel the final was biased towards Luke winning. As he himself said many times throughout the series, that He had done lots of these with his drag act. Opera gloves are a main stay in his act as is the Diva outfits earlier in the series. The paper outfit would dissolve at the first sign of perspiration. Also the draping on the final was also biased as he had done it, again, loads of time. It was obvious that Luke would win within first 10 minutes of the final

How can thin paper goods be worn the slightest bit of sweat and it will fall apart, and sewing just creates a tear line. Think this has been the worst sewing bee, I’ve said before they are making designers not sewers, probably won’t watch again. The drape challenge was made for luke it’s what he does but although I really liked his top and the fit was good at the front his skirt was dreadful.
