I know it’s been mentioned before but…..the use of the rotary cutters was terrifying this week. Chopping up the bits for the bag, I was waiting for the blood to flow! The same with chopping up the garments in the transformation challenge, so close the their fingers. It was almost on a par with the chainsaw massacre! Are they editing it to look more dangerous than it is or what? Love your Natter after the event, as good if not better than the show, I guess we don’t get one without the other but I now look forward to you guys as much , if not more than the actual show. Great stuff guys and gals.

I felt the same Jean. I was cringing and struggled to watch. It makes me wonder whether they have a Health and Safety Consultant on this show.

I love listening to your comments each week and it was great to listen to Wendy as well this week. I agreed with Wendy, I thought Alex deserved to win garment of the week as her outfit was stunning. She went the extra mile, painting her fabric and her underwear, as Alistair quite rightly said, were perfectly fitted.
Such a shame Don had to go, bless him , but I think he realised himself his time was up.
Looking forward to next week now.
    Thankyou all so much. 😃😘XX

Alex did fit the undertop and shorts to her model.which is why I thought this was a good fit. [Alastair actually said this as I was typing!] Always very informative and informative - thanks for your work putting this together.😎❤

Love Wendy’s Sewing Bee Book. I haven’t ever seen that style of bag using up scraps, but they didn’t use scraps, but they were all very floppy because of the way they were told to make, it was a rubbish 😂 challenge. Luke definitely robbed on the second challenge. The third challenge was a transformation challenge, not a fitting challenge, I’m not sure the production company understands enough about dressmaking to set the challenges. I learn more from listening to you guys in one video than a whole series of the SB. Thank you lovely people, have a great week xx

I, too, think this programme has lost its way. Not so much about sewing skills but what keeps Esme and Patrick happy. One minute they are berating someone for not following the remit , then the next giving first place to someone who hasn't.
I am just a home sewer but I have learnt so much from all your comments. Thank you

Loved your natter this week. And I also thought it was disjointed this week. And Don looked a bit down hearted. Wish they would not comment on colours used. It was also good to meet Wendy. I have a couple of her books. Xx

In past seasons, the show has saved up the bees' scraps and had them use them during reduce, reuse, recycle week. Seems so obvious for the pattern challenge

Thank goodness to have sensible reflections on this week’s episode. My husband willingly (?!) watches this with me each week. He totally agreed with Alistair by also saying “I really didn’t enjoy this week’s episode - I did notice he was even on his phone at one point, which never usually happens! Says it all really 🤷🏼‍♀️. Roll on next week!!

Thank you for all your tips/advice on the sewing techniques. I learnt basic sewing at school (which I loved) but wasn't taught anything about different fabrics or how to sew with them or anything about pattern fitting. Even after all these years I still can't fit a pattern to my shape! I have learnt so much listening to you discussing the challenges and especially on how the contestants should have handled their makes. Thank you.

Alistair - so many thanks! I have learned so very much from you today! This show is brilliant! And it is the perfect compliment to the Sewing Bee. I started sewing a couple of years ago and am keen for all tips I can glean. Thanks to all of you and the wonderful guests too!

I enjoyed the show and thought the contestants did really well given the tricky briefs. I think you're right about the amount of fabric for the last challenge. You would have to be very canny about choosing the second hand dress and choose one with as much fabric as possible. 🧵🪡

Another great chat regarding this weeks episode . I agree with the comments on the wedding dress challenge it was such a shame to use in tis way I was in agreement with Kim reference to making it into a heirloom I made my children's christening gown out of mine too . Alistair is such an inspiration in many ways and agree that the bag should have been a transformation challenge . Did agree with Don leaving I think it was his timing bless him and am sure he sews some lovely items at home in his own time . Thanks again for another lovely enjoyable chat Kim Alistair and Wendy ..

I enjoy making bags and have used the confetti technique before to create them so I was very surprised to see the method that they used. I totally agree that making a piece of fabric first and then being able to line the bag would have given a much better finish and using a wadding of some sort would stiffen the bag and make it sturdier and therefore useable. I found myself shouting at the television to tell them to use the guide which comes with most sewing machines to do the quilting grid. It is so much quicker than marking the lines and would have saved them a lot of time.
Thank you for these shows....although i am not a dressmaker, I love seeing what you and the guests think of the programmes week by week

Another enjoyable natter - I was not a fan of using a wedding dress to make a party outfit but loved the idea from Kim to keep it as another heirloom piece as a christening gown as styles change and a wedding dress is of the season and not forever as say a shirt where the basics dont change but to create another traditional garment is very appealing. With the bag challenge I could not believe how many of the sewers said they hadnt made a bag - to me it was a glorified pouch and to get the zip upside down well.... it beggars belief, considering it was a basic pouch with a flap. Any way great to see you all and the tips given see you next week XXXX

Thank you for such reasoned comments. I enjoy listening to all your thoughts and love the sewing tips. I would suggest a much better challenge this week would have been to repair jeans pockets or replace a jacket zip or extend/reduce a waistband to fit etc. The stuff we have to do without being too overtly 'designery'. It is now more a design show than a sewing show unfortunately and to me they favour the young innovative over the experienced practical. Wendy was a good guest this week.

I thought making the organza bag was not the way to go with that bag construction either. I always keep all my FPP scraps-now they are true scrap and ideal for this method of making fabric .I think free motion stitching over the flap of the bag with straight lines or cross hatch on the body of the bag would have looked better and shown better skills. In addition none of them did a top stitch around the edges--it would have been a neat finish but the thought of those raw edges inside gave me cold sweats tbh. Lauren didnt understitch did she ? So important to get a neat finish with lined garments.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I am finding this series so frustrating and the content is not appealing to me anymore. I find my mind wandering and wishing it was focused more about the actual sewing and not the sensationalism of completing and designing a useless garment, in limited time. Your discussions on each episode is of far more use and interest to me, I learned so much! Thanks guys you are amazing!

The bag challenge hurt me using whole fabrics and cutting them up, not lining not finishing the raw edges it was a mess and the critiques were very uneven. The last challenge wasn’t really a sewing challenge it was a redesign challenge, I’m beginning to think that Esme needs to be replaced, probably controversial but, she is not focussed on the techniques of sewing she’s uses her personal agenda instead of being unbiased she does make me cross sometimes. Altogether a poor episode. I do agree with all Alastairs tips though they are great. Loving the show x

I like making bags and it was an interesting technique for the pattern challenge but agree that the fabric could have been produced in a better way. Also, give the contestants a little more time to complete the item to a better standard. Surely this would give more insight to viewers about how to complete a product that could be used time and time again.

Completely agree - its so unfair when they complain about the colours. I'd rather they critic the sewing, but as you say, perhaps they do, but the editors are not showing them in the best light.

  • @user-tr2ft5ci9e

I thought the pattern for the pattern challenge was very poor and it would have been difficult for most people to get a great result. once again the transformation challenge produced nothing wearable and simply wasted clothes that could have been reused. The made to measure challenge I felt was particularly poor this week. I did agree with the winner, but it was a similar shape to her previous makes and most of the others were badly finished. I agreed that it was Dons turn to go but it was close.

Agree with Kim about the bias binding on the scrappy bag, I sat there saying to myself the finish would have been so much better. The raw seams looked awful on the outside, certainly in my opinion not useable.

BBC has dropped a heck of a clanger, they haven't mentioned once that Luke uses they/them. It could have been casually dropped in when they used the trans flag colours in a challenge and yet here we are.

Lots of criticism about the content of the program. Is it time to go back to basics, especially in this time of austerity. I used to like the transformation challenge when they revamped a wearable garment into something equably wearable

A question for Alistair. I've always pinned my patterns to the fabric but I notice most of the contestants use weights. What do you suggest?

It was an odd episode - wedding dress 'rework' wasn't really well done - study the dress first and work out a design that was going to be sensible for reconstruction

    I liked the bag challenge.
Transformation challenge was awful as usual and an utter waste.
Made to fit challenge was dreadful, the fitting was bad and the finishing was bad.
The sewing was bad is it the time restraint or panic? I am struggling with watching this week, everything was so slap dash.
I have a pride in my work and I hate to see such bad workmanship.

I'm struggling with the whole series , they seem to have run out of ideas for challenges and really asking people to fail . I think people will think twice about entering because its almost impossible imho
