I love your no nonsence approach to the sewing bee. like you I would love to see a dedicated sewing programme, teaching sewing techniques, tailoring ideas etc.

I'd like to see a 'sidebar' in the show, like Joe and Claudia did, on the history of sewing - fabrics, styles, creation and structure of pieces.

Interesting opinions about the show from you all. I agree it is an entertainment programme and needs to be viewed as such. I still love it. ❤️

Thank you for sharing your views. I have watched the Sewing Bee since the beginning when I was a non-sewer. I was always impressed by the skills displayed and in some way inspired. I bought a sewing machine during the first lockdown and, inspired by Lizzy Curtis and her daughter Abeygale I’ve made great strides in making bags, pouches and the like. I now watch the Bee through a different lens but still thoroughly enjoy it. 😊

Thankyou for the introduction to Sewing Street - must look it up and also to Lizzy’s patterns. I don’t really do craft TV as too busy so all these links great

I see the sewing bee as both entertainment & inspiring. If I see a pattern or technique that I would like to try, I’ll go and do further research. However I can understand how this could be difficult for some people.
I do love to see the progression of the contestants too, I like to see how much some of them change & improve over the weeks.

Listening to Kim and Lizzie.....they talk so much sense....The show sadly lacks talking about the basics like interfacing.. bosal etc....these are the backbone of all sewing tasks....

I would prefer to see a technical challenge instead of the transformation - similar to Bake Off where they all make the same thing with the same materials

Enjoyed the input from you all. I would like to see, an after show for TGBSB like there are for other reality programs. The after show could then incorporate the 'how to' of issues the sewists had in each challenge. As for encouraging new sewists, I think some may think, " if these experienced home sewists struggle, then I don't stand a chance". Seeing this show may put them off, not make them want to have a go.

Thanks for your views and opinions. Totally agree that the bees should have used some kind of innterfacing for their rucksacks. The rainwear judging was interesting!
Thank you for doing these vlogs.
I'd love to win the giveaway.☺

I'm frequently surprised how they don't seem to ever change the stitch, foot nor discuss needles for materials and production of the garnment and its never discussed by the presenters.

Interesting hearing all the opinions. I think of it as entertainment in the same way as Bake Off in that not every one knows the recipes so not everyone will understand the sewing process. I do think the presenters should remember the brief they have given the contestants i.e. a piece of rainwear - not - what can you make from a windbreaker. Roll on next week!!

Interesting chat about the latest episode.of the Bee.I used to love the earlier Wednesdays there was a more educational approach and interesting input from Claudia. How do agree with Kim that any programmes featuring craft on mainstream tv is a good thing.

I'm so glad I found your site. Listening to you was as interesting as the Sewing Bee, maybe more interesting, because the Sewing Bee has definitely lost it's way, which is a shame. I really don't like Esme passing on things because she doesn't like the colour, or liking things just because they have a bow. As Kim said, that's not what it's all about.

There is a tool in seed beading - a thread zapper that can finish synthetic materials

I agree with your discussion on not using interfacing/stabiliser on the rucksack- but one point more - although the instructions did not include it if it’s in the haberdashery then couldn’t they still have used it - the contestants are meant to have experience …..

I’ve just made a top from a well known company and couldn’t get the neck facing to fit so looked on Google and everyone that reviewed it all said the facing /neckband was approx 2 inches too short and I used the collar stand from a shirt pattern as did all other reviewers and made their own .not seen any apologies from anyone 🤷

Interesting to hear about some of the technical aspects of the different challenges - scuba, swimwear, bags. And fair enough to say "it's not just dress-making," but the truth is those specialised items require special kinds of equipment and accessories. Machines (and machine settings), cutting tools, needles, thread, hard-wear attachments: the right things are essential. Given the time constraints, too, what happens on the program is contestants all produce a different kind of botched job. That's frustrating to watch.

The biggest bloomer that stood out for me was in the transformation. Tony W got great praise, especially for matching pink binding with zip & came 2nd in that challenge & yet the garment was totally skewwiff. Neither side lined up at top or bottom yet wasn't pulled up for that 🤦 I agree the transformation is waste of time although much better with everyone getting same thing

Love this. Thank you for putting this lovely show together. I think the transformation challenge is so boring. It's making junk into more junk. Actually, sometimes the original item is more use than the monstrosities that are created. Just don't see the point of it. Well done to you all on this lovely chat. x

I’m still not a fan of the transformation challenge. I can sew but I’m not a designer, it would take me 90 minutes to think of something to make.

Bring back May Martin. She judged a lot fairer. She didn't choose winners according to her own tastes

I don’t see this show as a sewing tutorial, for me it is showing what amateur sewists can do and how they progress through each project. It is partly entertainment value and I think it has encouraged a great many viewers to start sewing over the years. Esme is not my favourite judge, her critiques are too personal, May Martin was much more professional in her opinions. I agree with a previous post that maybe a follow on program showing how some of the techniques should be done would be popular. Xx

I think they only get to try out the fitting challenge beforehand. The pattern challenge is new to them. Enjoying the chat and echo quite a lot of points. 👍🏻🪡🧵
