    Totally agree with Stuart on criteria for success! That was the thing I loved about the guest judge on Africa week. She was so consistent in what she said she was looking for at the start of the challenge and what she commented on at the end. Esme and Patrick need to take pointers from her!!

    I would like there to be a follow up TV programme, like Bake Offs Extra Slice, so they could discuss technical issues and decision making

    Enjoyed this episode of your Sewing Bee chat. Interesting to hear Stuart. The crochet challenge horrified me a bit but it has created a lot of chat on Social Media so that’s probably what it’s all about. It brought to mind the wonderful crochet designs of Lainey Keogh - Irish designer - produces fab crochet evening wear.

    Hi everyone really enjoyed the chat. Great to see Stuart and his comments. I did not enjoy this weeks sewing bee. There was a great contrast that I thought was difficult to judge fairly. I agree with one of the comments that a follow up programme like bake off has perhaps explaining techniques in more detail, would be a good idea.

    Thanks guys ..loved tonight's natter and the insight into some of the behind the scenes happenings. As I was listening though I suddenly started wondering if my views of what I thought about the programmes were my views or what the producers wanted to promote 😱. Hoping I can keep up with the shows as am abroad for the next month.

    Interesting to hear Stuarts inside information and views on the show . Can't say there was any of the challenges I would of like to of tackled this week. Not a fan of crochet so I was surprised at how good some of the garments were. I think the right person went , not his best week

    It was great to listen to Stuart this week giving us the information on how the show works, I will judge it differently now. I would still like a show based on the technical side of sewing though. Knowing of the challenges right at the start surprised me, and having time to prepare and practice not just on the made to measure. Even if some contestants aren't the best with their sewing, just looking at your machine manual and revising the info on fabrics, feet and needles in that would give them a better understanding of what to pick for each challenge.

      I have sewn for years but would never try to get on the sewing bee, but if I did, I'd make sure I knew how to sew all the different types of seams, put in different types of zips, use different feet etc.

    Yeah! I liked the blue and yellow tartan top. More cutting edge. Surprised Esme didn't like it. Some of the other colour combos were a bit safe.
    Good show this week though. Interesting challenges. The last one was a bit bonkers though. Good chat again 🪡🧵👍🏻

    I much prefered the earlier series that were more technical. A few series go they had the made to measure using old duvet covers, that was good. I've made summer nighties from a sheet I bought for 50p in a charity shop. I've got a few old fashioned type cotton nighties now and I'm thinking of making them into shorts and tops for wearing to bed, that would be be double recycling for some of them, lol. Stuart, I think you did very well when you were on, even though you say you were more into patchwork than dressmaking. How do they pick the group from all those who apply?

    Great discussion this week. Interesting to hear from Stuart how the show is put together. I would be more helpful if Patrick and Esme gave more credit for the actual design of the garments, use of fabrics and the sewing, rather than fabric colours and prints unless it is to advise on correct or incorrect use.

    #@lauraa_joy. I think Lizzie and Mia are ones to watch. Tony R and W are doing well in the background. However Tony R seems to be thrown by some of the challenges so we will see. Asmaa is holding her own.

    With the last challenge using crocheted items, if you aren't someone who crochets or does anything with wool, you may find it very difficult to understand and foresee the problems in using the throws/blankets. It isn't the same as seeing it as just another fabric. Mia understood because she wears crocheted garments. Her made to measure was great because sheunderstood the possibilites of using granny squares. Some of the items used would be unpicked and knitted or crocheted into something else, not cut up because of the unravelling factor. Also how easy or difficult was it for the contestants to find a crocheted item that they wanted to use. Some charity shops always have them, some don't.

    Great to see Stuart this week. Answered some of the mystery behind what we don't see on TV. Was disappointed in the statement Patrick gave on carbon footprint of cloth shopping bags. Almost all cloth bags are already made by upcycling other items into shopper hence keeping the bedding/curtains/frocks etc from landfill so how can these have a bigger carbon footprint that plastic bags? Plastic never really breaks down in landfill whereas upcycled shoppers rot away so better for the planet in the long run. This really should have been elaborated on instead of basically saying fabric bags are worse that plastic bags. I had though this weeks panel would have picked up on that so a bit disappointed in both the show and the Natter this week

    Very interesting, think it does show how the program is manipulated by the producers to have who they want in the final stages of the show. It must annoy them when a preferred contestant has a horrendous week and they can find a way of keeping them in.

  • @JeanetteDodd-q3c

    The contestants should have time to glance at the pattern to enable them to chose the right fabric. But then it wouldn’t be more entertainment than sewing.

    I do realise that it’s an entertainment show first and foremost but its appeal is mainly going to be for people who are interested in sewing. I don’t really need drama in a sewing show, I’d prefer more focus on the sewing and sewing journeys of the contestants.

    • @monicas2269
      @monicas2269 Рік тому +2

      I agree, and I think originally it was more about the sewing and the journeys of the contestants as they progressed. Using bows just to please Esme is wrong and her not liking someone's colour choices just because they aren't colours that she likes, is wrong.

    • @lisahalmshaw1275

      @@monicas2269 Yes it’s so frustrating. Subjectivity shouldn’t really be a factor when judging - the contestants are too gloriously varied.

    Nice to hear Stuart’s background on the programme and I agree that they are not making a sewing programme but entertainment. I think it’s gone too far in that direction and needs pulling back a bit. Cutting up crochet blankets nearly made me cry - the work that goes into them it’s such a shame. I don’t think they got it right about sustainability. Tote bags are often made from scraps etc and a lot better for the environment Than plastic bags, and a zero waste pair of trousers still uses the same amount of fabric. And don’t get me started on the ridiculous transformation challenge where even the nicest garments are not made well enough to wear. It seemed a bit of greenwashing to me

    For me, this was a very disappointing episode. Although the zero waste concept is good, would those trousers be wearable in real life? The idea of using tote bags to make garments seems wrong- especially as Patrick had said they use more resources to make than plastic bags. For the made to measure it would have been better to have had second hand garments and altered them to fit, which is what most of us would do.

    • @monicas2269
      @monicas2269 Рік тому +1

      I can see how cotton tote bags may use more resources to make than plastic ones because apparently making cotton uses so much water, but they would last longer and eventually break down quicker and better than plastic, even if it's shredded and used for insulation at the end of it's life.

    • @wendyparker2777
      @wendyparker2777 Рік тому +2

      @@monicas2269 I agree. I have several tote bags which I use all the time. Although cotton may use a lot of resources the bags will last so much longer. Also the bags they were given looked brand new, whereas I would have expected them yo be really old.

    Tony R and Tony W are not the best in the group, unless they improve dramatically. Matthew went rightly, I feel, because he of the waist seam on his garment. There was such a big step there, and the zip looked awful. If he had made the bow to hide all of that awfulness, he may have stayed. And his swimwear from last week was awful too. Yes he was a personality, but the personality should not keep his place instead of a more worthy sewist.
