Knuckle Boom BBQ Firewood Delivery
In today’s project, we’re using the Ford F550 with Fassi F50 knuckle boom crane to load up some Log Lift firewood bags for a local BBQ food truck delivery. We’ll fill the bags using customer made racks. Load them on the truck with the knuckle boom. Strap them down. Drive them through some pretty country. And finally unload the firewood at the BBQ food truck that’s setup at a local century farm full of family friendly attractions.

In today’s project, I bring the camera along at my day job, where I come across a downed Oak tree. I’ll break out the Stihl 500i and 261 chainsaw to cut up the tree into rounds. I’ll load the rounds in the bed of my Chevrolet 2500hd pickup truck and transport them back to the woodyard. The Split Force 13/20T log splitter and Suzuki Carry mini truck take over from there, where I’ll turn the fres...

Where have you gone. I enjoy watching you spilling wood
I've taken a break from making videos. My schedule got too hectic to keep up with the weekly uploads, and I fell out of the habit. Hope to slow down this winter and put out some new stuff. Thanks for watching!
How many gpm does it take to run one of these
Hey, I’m looking at the exact same knuckle boom, I’m wondering if an electric/hydraulic pump would work or do I need to find something else? I’ve got a cab and chassis f350 single wheel.
Unfortunately, I'm not sure about the electric/hydraulic. Ours uses the truck PTO. I'm not sure the F350 frame could handle the addition of a knuckle boom, at least not the size we are running in this video. My personal truck is an F350 SRW, and the F550 frame is much beefier. Thanks for watching!
Hey! Just wanted to check in & see how you’re doing? If you’re ever in WV let me know. Paul Bunyan is the first weekend in October if you’re interested. Take care.
All good here! Hope the same for you! Work is keeping me pretty busy these days. Traveled through WV last month on my way to the UP. Stayed in Gilbert on the way up and Princeton on the way back. Beautiful country. Thanks for checking in!!
Good morning! Love ya and so happy for all your success
Where is part two? We are about to purchase land with a pond that has trees in the damn similar to this. Would love to see part two! Thanks for the video!
No part 2 unfortunately, but it turned out great. Spread a couple loads of fill dirt and seeded with a turf grass blend. The stumps that were left, are sprouting a few new shoots, especially the Sweet Gums. Nothing that a string trimmer or brush mower can't handle. Good luck on your pond project. Thanks for watching!
How long in the flatbed on that truck
This one is 9’ behind the knuckle boom. Thanks for watching!
How did you decide on which trees to cut to the stump with a chainsaw and which trees to excavate by pulling the root ball out with the heavy machine?
Anything large with obtrusive root structure was cut and the stump left. Smaller trees were pulled out root ball and all, in hopes of disturbing the dam as little as possible. Have since spread several loads of fill over the top and have a nice crop of grass. Thanks for watching!
How much was your splitter
Around $20k USD. However, that was back before the pandemic and all of the pricing/shipping increases. I'm sure like everything else, they have increased a bit these days. Thanks for watching!
Hope you don't leave that bag of wood along side of building rain will run off roof and into bag
We tarp the tops in 4 bag groups. Thanks for watching!
Look at these men, they are great
Looks great, well done!
Bonjour Merci pour cette vidéo, j'allais faire la vidange moteur + filtre et cela va m''aider. Avez-vous une vidéo pour changer la courroie de l'alternateur ?
Honestly I was quite let down after having the prosizer for a while. The red laser doesn't show up very well when it is a sunny day. I either had to cut wood on an overcast day, on the north side of the log, put my leg up for a shadow, or cut wood in the dark with a head lamp. Now the thing has a short circuit or something. Laser only comes on when I push the end. Not sure if I bumped it when dogging in a log. Would try the green colored one, but the whole kit cost me 110 dollars Canadian I think it was.
I agree 100%. I tried really hard to like the prosizer, but just never would work for me, unless under perfect conditions. Like you said it's great in low light, but those days are rare for me. I even tried the green version, which got knocked one time digging into a large log and never acted right since. Like so many things, great idea on paper. Thanks for watching!
It looks fun to drive
Well it has been over 10 months since your last video. Guess it is safe to say you are finished making them. I see youtube channels come and go but I always enjoyed watching your channel. So long and good luck to you. -Everett
Still around in the comments, just don't have the time to dedicate to creating the content anymore. Appreciate you watching though!

You whipped out the Benchmade 9400 auto Osborne... My man has style and class.
Wear some gloves my dude... :-)
Nice flag
What mower deck did you purchase for your machine? I am looking to replace mine.
Unfortunately, it appears to have been discontinued. I purchased through one of the green parts online dealers in 2017, and can no longer find it listed. Appreciate you watching!
@@FoxfireProjects Thank you!
Was able to dig up the old shipping paper work. Part number is BM17879. Appears no longer offered, but the part number may help you find an old stock unit. Best of luck!
Would this cause the chickadees to abandon the nest?
No. This brood was raised and all left the nest healthy. Thanks for watching!
Would you respond with what tires and rims you have?
The wheels are the OEM wheels that I had powder coated. Tires are "Journey" brand. Chinese made but DOT approved. Purchased from G and R Imports, but don't see them listed any longer on their website. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
超実用的で何のムダもない日本の軽トラの良さがアメリカにバレてしまったな。
This is exactly the kind of setup I’ve been looking for. I’m a one man operation myself in SW Louisiana. Subscribed. Your videos are very informative. Thank you.
It’s really upped my production when working alone. A real time and back saver. Glad to have you watching!!
How much would a setup like that cost around if you don’t mind me asking. Same splitter and conveyor? Thank you in advance and very nice video
I paid around $20k usd for this setup. That was pre-covid, and prices have risen a bit since then. It works really well for my small operation. Appreciate you watching!
Using a knuckle boom is pretty slick. Doug here, from Hickory Point Farms
What species of tree is this?
Oak. Mainly Red Oak. Thanks for watching!
Nice!! Where did u buy? And for how much? Ty
I purchased through Empire Attachments. Paid around $21k usd but that was just before the pandemic, so I’m sure like everything else prices have gone up. Thanks for watching!

I bet that thing was invented by an old guy with a bad back.
Boring. Pity you didn't speec it up much earlier. Fast forward most of that.
Dope.
Just dropped in to say hello. Kenny
Hey Kenny! Always great to hear from you. Hope you're doing well!
@@FoxfireProjects all good bud. I was having a chat with The Log Father on UA-cam about your splitter. He has one similar to yours and I was telling him the first time ive seen one was on your channel.
I don't know what you sell your wood for, but in this part of Canada, I pay $660 for two full cords of dried hard-wood delivered. So if you do a solid 8 hrs = 8 full cords = $2,640 worth of split wood a day. Then, if you deliver it, that is time taken away from production, so hopefully your customers are within a 30 minute drive. Say, 20 miles. You could do maybe 6 deliveries in a day = $3,960 /day. At 240 miles for 6 deliveries, and a 4 x 4 pick-up pulling a 2 cord self dumping trailer at maybe 10 mpg = 3/4 of a 139 liter tank = 27.5 gallons x $US$3.59/gal = about $100 in gas = 2 gallons for the splitter or US$110 for fuel = $3,960 - $110 x 2 times a week = $3,850 x 2 = $7,700 a week. Do that for 10 weeks a year and you 're good to go @ $77,000. If you are incorporated = 11% tax (in Canada). If sole proprietorship, hopefully you've got a bunch of write-offs and 20.5% Federal tax. Yeah, not bad money.
Great video new subscriber, question did you order your F-550 with the Fassi crane from a ford dealer or was it set up for something else? It’s a brilliant way to move firewood!
We picked the truck up used and it was already setup. We have enquired with the local Ford dealer about building one new, spec’d the same, and it can be done. Glad to have you watching!!
@@FoxfireProjects perfect thank you!
why so small though
We supply a lot of restaurants with cooking wood. This was for a local pizza oven. Small splits allow quick and easy heat regulation. Appreciate you watching!
Awesome video. I grabbed my hatchet right afterwards, feeling hella motivated!! I didn't make it 20 minutes or a face chord!
At first, I thought you were naked under those chaps.
