  • In today's project, follow along as we spend a weekend in the firewood business. We’ll start off splitting wood with the Split Force 13/20T splitter/conveyor, filling the barn to season for next year. Then we’ll hit the road for restaurant and residential firewood deliveries. The Ford F550 4x4 and Fassi F50 knuckle boom make firewood deliveries easy! We’ll also fill up some face cord bulk firewood bags for a future delivery, using the Kioti NX5510 tractor. The Suzuki Carry 4x4 mini truck even makes an appearance.

    Love it. You have made it easy for yourself in many ways. You need rotational forklift toes now to load the bag for you. Save you all that time to fill them manually. Watching from Northern Ireland. 👍

      Appreciate your kind words! A face cord is a third off a full cord, or one "face" of a stack of 3 rows that are 4 foot tall by 8 foot wide of 16" splits (full cord). Happy New Year and thanks so much for watching!

      @FoxfireProjects  Рік тому

      Yes sir, 4'x8' stack of 16" pieces fits loosely in the bags. Has made delivering so much easier for us. The wood drys extremely well in the barns. In the summer, the heat on the tin roof in combination with a constant breeze blowing through the center, really speeds up the process. Glad to hear business is good. Hi do you not always get your bag back and how much does a bag cost?

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  Рік тому +3

      We get the bags back to refill from most of our restaurants, and about 40-50% of residential sales, mostly repeat customers. We don't use a deposit system, and factor the bag into the cost of the wood. Have seen folks use them for yard debris, storage, and even a kid's fort. Thanks so much for watching!

    Do you stack the wood to dry and season this way

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  Рік тому

      We season several ways, all with great results. A lot of wood is seasoned right in the bags, they are made with a breathable mesh fabric that allows air flow, works really great outside in our summer heat. We also season under cover in barns. It really makes a beautiful wood, with no color fading from sun or rain. Thanks so much for watching!

    That's a great truck set up did you find that used or did you have it built? 2nd question do you charge your customers a deposit on the firewood bag or do you just include it in the price of the face cord ?

    • @FoxfireProjects
      @FoxfireProjects  Рік тому +1

      Appreciate the kind words. We picked it up used. Was an oil field truck of some sort in its prior life. No deposit on the bags, we factor in to the cost of the wood. We have a lot of repeat customers, that are nice enough to save them for us, so we do get quite a few back to reuse. Thanks for watching!

      It dries down really well actually. 18% moisture content in less than a year. Southern climate with lots of heat in the summer, and there’s always a breeze flowing through. Wood seasoned under cover just looks so much better from a sellable standpoint. Appreciate you watching!

      @@FoxfireProjects I agree up here in New York it’s been pretty wet that’s why I’ve been thinking of building a simple lean too style structure with pallet walls to allow air flow but keep the majority of the rain and snow off of it. That will be a project when I acquire my own larger property to build on and store a lot of wood.
