Mountain hike with the wind and clouds - no music
This was a two-day hike I did along the Brothers ridge and Five Sisters of Kintail. I spent two nights sleeping on the summit of Sgurr Fhuaran in a bivi bag. Sorry this one is so short. I filmed this a few years ago before I started youtube. It was my first attempt at filming my hiking adventures. I came back with way too little material hence the brevity of this film. I hope you like the no music approach. Sometimes the sound of the wind blowing the clouds over the mountains is all you need.

I hiked alone on part of the Carres de Foc hiking trail in Aigüestortes in the Pyrenees. The weather was mixed with rain, hail and sun. It's a wonderful trek with wild lakes and mountains. There is no camping allowed in the national park so I stayed in the very cosy refugios. The right music can and does really work sometimes, but its so rare for that to happen in any kind of film. Most music just doesn't work, and it can detract and sometimes even ruin films. With nature films and mountain films, if you can capture the sounds that there are, i think that's all you need.
Definitely. I'm going to cut down on the music I think and just use the sounds of nature. However, I think some subtle music over timelapses and drone shots works quite well.
@@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking Absolutely...it was only my opinion. There have been a couple of sequences in your films where your choice of music really fitted perfectly and made those sequences even better. But music and who likes what and how people hear it varies from person to person. when i was interviewed for radio the interviewer had one of those hand held recorders like you and i have, but her mic was inside one of those long Rycote modular windshields, and i asked her if wind was an issue, and she said no, using one of those...but its yet more expense, and more for you to carry up the hills!

Know them well Jim, these were the west coast mountains that captured me. Used to go with the school staying at Morvich every Easter for many years. The weather always different but the beauty of these mountains stayed the same. Cheers man
Nice school trip to go on! The Five Sisters always look so commanding in the landscape. Quite fond of The Saddle too. Looks so mighty when it first appears as you drive down Glen Shiel.
@@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking Yep, the Saddle is my favourite. In winter plastered with snow & ice, around the 'horseshoe' from Shiel Bridge and up and along the Forcan Ridge were a taste of the alpine stuff to come. Cheers

Indeed! The wind is music itself.
Love it. The sounds of nature just put me back to these places even when I'm sat watching it on tv.
I might use less music in future. I like the sounds of nature too. It brings the place to life on the screen I think.

Yeah, that was a lovely little place to stay. I had planned to go further to Ragohytta which is a better hut with beds and a wood burning stove but the lavvu had more character.
@@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking lavvus are always very special. DNT huts are great, some better than others, but my favorites are always the basic (what l call) 'hunter huts' ("Statskog" huts).
