My thoughts on Pan Zhanle's 46.40 100 freestyle World Record
It's good to be back.
I was recently out in Paris on vacation when someone told me "hey Kyle did you know the Olympic Games are currently happening?" so I waddled myself down to the La Defense arena to watch some swimming when this happened.
A 46.40 100 freestyle. Quite possibly the most preposterous thing I have ever witnessed take place in a pool. Let's talk about it.

did you like the video yet? The GB Aquatics Olympic Trials were one of the best produced and quickest meets we've seen in the LC pool in a long time outside of an Olympics or a World Championships. Actually, Pan had to get up before 6:00am to get ready for the test, one in lunch time, then dinner time again, there may be more tests during the day, but all the results are negative. How can someone said that he must be doping . please accept the fact.

    To prove he's clean, he should have a live camera on him, 24/7 for a month, then swim a sub 47s... that would get all doubters to stf up. Until he's doing that, I have all the reason to doubt him. Sheer power is why he gets these times, otherwise he'd be in the 50m conversation too. If his body is built to overcome tirednes for 100m, good for him, just that 99.999...% of humans aren't.

    Excellent video Kyle! I'm 100% with you- innocent until proven doping. Instead of guessing doping or not, why don't we study how Pan did 46.4? Maybe his swmming style fits perfectly Paris' shallow pool. Maybe his body's not so big built blends in his swiming techniques perfectly. There are reasons why dolphins swim faster than other fishes. I am not a swimmer, perhaps you experts out there can find out the reasons how Pan did it twice as Kyle said.

    The scary thing was that this was a slow pool. Only one individual world record and a few Olympic records. In a fast pool, he would have gone 46.2. Apart from Pan, this was a slow race. Chalmers and Popovici wouldn't have medaled in Tokyo. Both the Americans went .50 seconds slower than their Olympic trial times and Alexy was about .80 outside his pb. As Kyle Calmers said, 46.9 isn't good enough anymore.

    Watch his China interview 2 days before flying to Paris , he had already knew that he improved within 46-46.5s and will broke a another new record but he told the media interviewer to hold the broadcast till he shows it to the world. What a great smokescreen that his competitors still thought his max limit still at 46.8s previously

    Pan broke the previous world record 46.8 which was set by himself in the last world event in February. He’s 19 still getting faster, totally don’t get how it was such a big deal. This record has been broken by more than 0.4s multiple times in history, on several occasions just within a couple of months. I mean how many times Jim Montgomery broke it, and by more than a full second in a year too.

    So, does that mean 46.4 should NEVER been achieved? even in the next 10 or 20 or 30 years? Human race as a species tend to become stronger faster over time, that is why all those WRs can be broken over and over again - we run faster, swim faster, lift heavier, not the other way around. If we run slower and swim slower when our offspring grow into taller/stronger humans with more powerful muscles, then we will be having the exact same Olympics or World records that were made in the 90's. When, in the future, when someone swims this fast, will be deemed as "reasonable" or "achievable"? I am genuinely curious. How long do you think it will take? Because what I am hearing is that 46.4 is not possible, so does that mean the previous world record, in a perfect world, should remain the same for the next 50 year?!

    • @Spyder6898
      @Spyder6898 4 години тому

    No matter how someone like to sugar coat it saying “I’m not racist, I’m just in shock someone can break the WR by that margin must be doping!” You are racist! Let’s look back on how many WR breaking that had body lengths or good distant second place behind. Did you question those guys? Come on! Don’t hide it…. Be true to yourselves boys and girls.

    • @Spyder6898
      @Spyder6898 4 години тому

      Sydney Mclaughlin just crushed everybody in the 400m hurdles, no one’s crying doping. Don’t assume they’re racist just because he’s Chinese. Nobody cried doping when Usain Bolt dominated the world. The problem is that the Chinese have a known history of doping, just like the East Germans and the Soviets. You’re the one being rascist by essentially hiding behind the “he’s not white so the accusers must be rascist”. I know a lot about swimming and it was an amazing swim, I don’t think he was doping, he’s just technically better than everyone else. Let them question it.

    Great analysis and very fair view. I was wondering if martial art professionals ever questioned whether Bruce Lee was doping for his famous "one-inch punch" where he was able to generate a force between 400 and 700 lbs with a one inch movement? Some may say that "it's humanly impossible". Neither one defies the laws of physics.
