We had something you don't see every day in swimming happen in the 50 freestyle final at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Westmont over the weekend and even though everyone and their mom has made a video about it already I'M HUNGRY FOR LIKES BABY SO HERE YA GO.
Also, Caeleb Dressel had a hell of a meet out there, eh? Good sign. Good sign indeed.

Thats happened at a lot of meets with I’ve gone to. It’s always so suspenseful when you don’t know if you made a time standard or not.
pencil explanation was unexpected but beautiful

this was so wild 😂😂😂
Hey Kyle- any idea what happened to Cal swimming? Jack Alexy and Dare Rose weren't even entered in the Pac-12 Championships and attended some random long course meet. Are they just trying to get long course reps before Olympic Trials or something?
Cal opted for more LCM reps over PAC 12s for some of their athletes that are already locks for making NCAAs 🤝
@@Sockwellit’s just the first time I’ve heard of anything like this in swimming. I guess it makes sense, there are not many NCAA champions who follow up with Olympic gold medals. This just seems like a huge story for the two time defending national champions to skip their conference championship meet, and because swimming is such a small sport, I doubt anyone’s ever going to tell it.
It’s probably compounded by the dissolution of the Pac 12 after the season anyways, if the school’s leadership doesn’t give a crap about the conference, why should the athletes?
It makes you wonder how many races used to be called incorrectly in the days when stopwatches were the only tool they had. When first place is separated by 5 hundredths of a second, there is no way you can trust the stopwatch. A good human reaction time is about five times that.
Wait for that piece of lead wrapped in a tree thing, how do you write words on it if the lead is facing the other direction? Can you explain?
As a timing system console operator, I'm wondering how hard it broke: if it just didn't start, the standard procedure is to start the timing from the console, 5 or more seconds into the race, so that the pads can pick up order of finish. The delay is so that it's clear that the times are not real. However, if the whole console crashed, that's not an option.
Out of interest did the start signal sound. Very weird if it did and the clock didn’t start at all because the start pulse can’t sound without the timing system being ready. (Assuming it’s Swiss timing quantum)
the start signal did sound, but the running clock on screen never left 0.0
Was there a test start of the timing system? All the lower level meets I've officiated go through this at the beginning. What happened?
No hawkeye camera?
Did they not have backup pushbuttons for the timing system. We had these way back. Gramps with the stopwatch was the third timing system. And, no Head Judge deciding the finish order, regardless of hand timing. (If you're in that heat you really want a timer with a Mother's finger)
They have them, but if the timing system never starts then they’ll default to the stopwatch. Not 100% sure what the case was here but I believe it was the stopwatch.
Buttons are used in the event of a soft touch, which these guys probably never did since they were 8 years old, or simply a pad malfunction. I’ve spent a fair number of decades as a timer, and more often than you would think, my watch time exactly matches the touchpad time.
YOU SAW THE GUY MEWING TOO
