That's like an alcoholic saying "I'm not trying to drink and become a drunk" and yet they still drink. Its a form of denial and a lack of awareness. It is due to the brain damage to the frontal lobe, and other parts of the brain. So-called "autism" is actually a form of traumatic brain injury and you've been sold the lie that you are "born that way" when in reality, you were not. You were enabled and lied to/gaslighted, and now you are doing the same to others to basically enable you and others with brain injuries to continue to be selfish. I know because my husband has a traumatic brain injury and HE gets self-centered and selfish and struggles with romantic intimacy, financial education, time management, behavioral management, etc. His family didn't get him the help he needed after his brain injury. The quacks also gaslighted and lied to him (and for profit no less) and the drugs and "mind fuckery" (aka psychology) did nothing for him, either. What ended up working was basically coming to the realization that he wasn't born that way and that he was damaged by the childhood vaccines, and this was documented in his baby book. Before then, he was a healthy developing normally baby - until those vaccines were administered and ever since then, he's had not only the brain injury but a myriad of health problems. Now I, as his wife, have been trying to pick up the slack to help him - as both his wife and his accountability partner - and we rely on the Lord for the facts/truth in the Bible. God doesn't lie. He always tells it like it is. He said the Bible has been more helpful to him than anything those quacks and his neglectful and abusive family ever did. He still struggles with his darker side with self-centeredness and selfishness and admits it, thankfully. Its an ongoing daily war, but I'm glad he admits it and he is getting the right help he never got.

Diagnosed with ADHD at age 7, but at age 18, a parathyroid surgery (removed a tumor) resolved my symptoms. BUT I can still relate to some of this. 26-year-old male here and I have faced more infantilization than my younger brother because of ADHD traits. The problem is that infantilization is already mainstream and the reason why autistic adults get more infantilized than others is because infantilization is already mainstream. I define adult (biologically) as 16 years old and upward. The problem is that we see so much pseudoscience here regarding brains. The whole idea that neurotypical brains mature at age 25 is a MYTH but is constantly peddled by the media, academia, and famous researchers such as Steinberg. They use extremely limited age ranges such as people aged 4-26 years or 13-25 years to support their case. Even mainstream young adults are extraordinarily infantilized to a HUGE EXTENT. The problem is just much worse for autistic young adults who are seen as LESS MATURE with less mature brains. - A 17-year-old is still a minor and is still treated like a minor with guardianship laws, even though he/she IS an adult in all matters. A 17-year-old is infinitely more mature than an actual child but is still seen as a child under the law in virtually all jurisdictions. - 20-year-olds are still treated like children in the area of alcohol, cigarettes, guns, and other things. My point is, infantilization is already mainstreamed to a HORRIBLE EXTENT that most people don't even care about it nor question it. We neurodiverse folks just get the worst of it.

Yep. I have been fighting to find the right organizations/departments within my city that can help me with my needs. I am just surviving. Failure to thrive. But I might have just started asking the right questions to the right people. I believe i am close to getting help with employment and navigating that part of being a adult. I still need to find someone who can consistently help make sure I don't end up homeless. The cycle needs to end.

Thank you for addressing and admitting that mental illness has become a trend. It's incredibly frustrating. Nobody is accurately diagnosed in a 2 hour psych visit, let alone watching a handful of social media videos. Symptom treatment is more important than the umbrella term you use to quantify all your problems. Most symptoms overlap diagnoses. Listen to your body and take nothing at face value. Thank you for attending this Ted Talk 😂

I was wondering where you were. I don't remember how I found your channel, maybe I was searching for ways to figure out how to help my cousin few years back. But it's funny how only this year I was able to figure out about myself. I'm still recovering from my 5+years burnout. I still don't know how to accommodate for my needs, heck I don't think I'm fully aware of what all my needs are in the first place. There's a lot of trial and error and it is taking a lot of time to figure them out. I'm lucky because in some ways I'm privileged enough to be given space and time to figure these things out. I wish the healthcare providers in my region were updated on how to deal with the health issues. I feel there needs to be more studies about comorbidities with autism and how to help with the issues. But for now, every time I learn more about myself, it feels like I have to start from scratch again and again. I relate to being back to square one.

I remember you! You were one of my favorite UA-camrs when I first started researching whether I have autism. I was later formally diagnosed and it really helped me get my life back in order. I really appreciate all of your videos. I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. Some relatives have had serious health problems lately, and there's something tragic about how people in great health usually don't appreciate it until it's gone. Reminds me of that quote, "Good health is a crown on the head of a well person that only a sick person can see." Good luck with everything.

I'll be honest: I don't remember you in the slightest; but not because you in particular are unremarkable, but because I subbed to you during the slur of autism-related content I consumed over the course of the pandemic. My YT Watch history says that I must have thought your videos were worth while because I watched a handful. As far as new content ideas: You could go the slightly-cringe route of reacting to your own videos and contrasting how you feel about/interpret your autistic traits now relative to the past. If you got your Masters in a relevant field, then continue down the autistic pipeline--as we need autistic-professionals-in-training to give individuals such as myself more insight. If you got your Masters in an unrelated field, hopefully it is a Special Interest of yours--a topic which you could elaborate on, as you seem to be perfectly intelligent enough to analyze how you cognitively frame and interpret the world when you are engaged in this Special Interest. Have you been tested for ADHD? If you have AuDHD, you could perhaps combat your CFS with stimulants--although this is a road you need to travel down carefully. Lastly, if you are able to afford it, check into in-clinic IV ketamine infusion lessons. I had them and they changed my life. Apparently the primarily conditions it aims to treat is c-PTSD, chronic anxiety, chronic nervous pain, and dysthmia (long-term depression, really). Regardless of what you do, please take some pride in yourself for getting and *advanced* degree. As an autustuc Man, I am not subjected to the same physical ailments women seem to be; but I'm barely an undergrad at the age of 34. I happens.

@@AutisticAllie From what I understand your partner ended up sticking it out with you, right? That's pretty amazing of him. As an autistic person who is chronically single, I'm genuinely not at all jealous when I hear stories like that as it reassures me that there are people out there who will be there even when my particular autistic traits are dialed up to 11. I have no idea why, but there are just way too many autistic women I've known with conditions like POTS/EDS/CFS for it to be a coincidence. I have heard *so many* countless stories of doctors gaslighting these grown-ass women who, to their credit usually don't realize that their conditions are largely the product of a neurologically-based situation, but are just simply not the kind of people who habitually lie and deceive. We aren't angels by any means--just bad liars. I hope you find a way to manage these conditions. If you do, feel free to share with the class what methods/specialists worked for you. It would be helpful information for me to be able to find analogous service providers in my city (We've got the State's biggest University and a medical center basically for each body part) for the newly diagnosed.

I recently joined a support group for autistic students attending my University. At least a dozen or so people showed up and one had a cane. Because I was new, the group conversation kind of veered into attendees giving a brief description of their own unique autistic experience. When it was time for the girl with the cane to speak, she recalled how two times (once as a child and once before entering college) she was diagnosed with level 2 ASD and very eloquently and articulately explained what that entailed, as she appeared to be the only level 2 individual attending. She also explained how she fell in love with electrical engineering (her major) and how she plans to contribute towards actually designing and building sustainable green energy (she said she specifically had a special interest in wind turbines, of all things). She was very clearly intelligent and not once did this intelligence make me think "Are you sure you're level 2?" despite the fact that she was clearly knowledgeable in areas that would make *me* look like the slow one.

Thank you for this video, it was absolutely amazing because, I believe I have two undiagnosed younger brothers who have a lot of present A.S.D. symptoms and I've somewhat always noticed with the both of them, although the rest of my family members haven't which is understandable since their knowledge is bit more limited on awareness. Since having been doing more research on A.S.D. it has pushed me to especially want for them professionally be evaluated for that specific disorder and possibly ADHD. Videos like this can make the process easier I believe, so thanks again.

I've noticed the trait of autistic or socially anxious people often looking younger than their age too. I wonder why that is. Perhaps people who look young for their age are more likely to get bullied which may lead to social difficulties, though I doubt that's the answer. Perhaps, more likely, autism is linked to a specific chemical difference in the brain which also coincides with the part of the brain involved with aging. Or something like that.

Awww thank you so much :( I’m sorry you have to know what it feels like to be a ghost… I have burned myself out to the point of physical death and revival and I have been holding so much shame and guilt that I’m a 27 year old male still living with my dad even though I’m intelligent; he constantly says I should be on my own already but I always burnout at jobs because I have to be the top performer to make up for my social deficits. Glad I’m not alone :( ❤
