BEWARE! Waiter Scam in Beautiful Salzburg
Переглядів 8892 місяці тому
Traveling to Austria this summer was a blast. We visited Salzburg and Innsbruck. The only real snag was this waiter who I'm pretty darn sure tried to scam us for about 60 euro - luckily I caught him in the act! Enjoy the video or skip to the scammer story towards the end. Let us know if you have encountered any scams while traveling in the comments sections, and help out your fellow travelers. ...

    Good decision moving away from Samui. It’s an overpriced bore. Plenty of more interesting, overall superior places throughout Thailand. Samui’s good for no more than a few weeks. Getting on and off is always a headache. Much preferable to be on the mainland, where travel to other interesting places is both easier and more flexible assuming you have your own car. Why get stuck on one over blown tourist Island, when there is so much more out there in this beautiful country? And you are only about an hour drive from the Surat Thani airport, which is much cheaper to fly in and out of than Samui. FYI, you are overpaying for your dragon fruit. Foreigners price for sure, watch out that it doesn’t translate to other higher ticket things over time.

    I appreciate the sacrifices you make to bring us all the tourist experiences such as beer gardens. On the tip fraud front, I always try to proceed/complete the transaction myself before handing the device back. That way there’s no opportunity to modify it before closing it out. Maybe that’s something to try in the future.

    Wow, thanks for the heads up! I’d never thought about situation like this could happen…anywhere, but will be checking receipt more closely now. Could you share about your lodging and mode of travel while in Europe? How much per day per person would you suggest budgeting for a trip in EU? I suppose cost is country dependent.

    • @edandtomo
      @edandtomo 2 місяці тому

      Oh wow, that’s a tough one. We want comfortable hotels but also seek a good deal. We always check the reviews and avoid places that have a lot of bad ones. One way to save is to find a place with a good breakfast and eat well! Then you can have a much smaller lunch. We take public transportation and like to walk which also saves money. It really does depend on the chosen you make throughout the day (2 coffees can even add up if you go to the tourist spots). Don’t eat where the tourists eat (at least all the time). Follow the locals as they are more likely to know where the better places are with both quality and price. Hope that helps. Also try a google search as there is good info there on the topic.

    Spent 10k for 5 days in the ICU for pneumonia 17 years ago Paid cash as soon as they gave me a bill. Over 40 years, spent 30k in hospitals or less than 1000 per year. I paid 10k insurance paid 20k. I can easily self insure now. My care in Bumrungrad was excellent and about $2000 a day. I was in the ICU taking IV zntibiotics and on a broncho dialator everyday Spent another 150 bringing in my own food everyday from nearby restaurants. Now 70, I expect my expenditures to double or triple. I can get insurance to pay at least 70% and qualify for national health insurance in Japan which is based on local income. 80% if my income is from outside Japan so the cost is not so high. I always have 100k for emergencies and can get 1 million quickly if needed. This takes years of preparation and planning Hospitslized 4 times and 5000 worth of dental work. Less than $10 per month. I keep 100k in reserve and only spend about 60 a month.

    I had quotes for age bracket 61-65 4500-7500 euros. Not yet included are accident, outpatient nor pre existing conditions. Area Asia. Direct billing more expensive. I expect to budget 6000 for me and 6000 for my wife and expect to go for a deductibles of about 5000, which I deem already very high. We’re just in the planning phase, still in Switzerland. Costs here are slightly higher but deductibles are only 300 Euros plus a 10% participation at costs above this. And of course here we can’t get canceled. I like your statements at the end because you clearly say amounts and the risk of not being renewed. All insurers in Thailand can kick us out any time and that’s a real issue and therefore one has to opt for a great broker and a top tier insurer as you did.

    Khanom and Sichon is nice and quiet (have been there a few times) but transportation to international airports is a bit of a hassle. If you would like friends and family to come to visit often, getting there is rather inconvenient for them. Same if you want to travel internationally. It can be rather isolating as a result.

    • @edandtomo
      @edandtomo 5 місяців тому

      Thanks for your thoughts. The airport is about 90 minutes away. Samui airport was much more convenient but the pluses here for us far outweigh the minuses. We recently traveled internationally and leaving our car very close to the airport cost us just ฿100 per day, and included pick up and drop off service! That’s hard to beat! We don’t feel isolated at all but that’s just our opinion. Living in a smaller community with good friends makes us feel very much at home!

      @@mikdev62 For us we LOVED the convenience of Samui's airport, especially given the number of times Tomo flies home to visit. 15 (to 25) mins. vs. an hour or more is a noticeable difference IMO. But, when you balance it all out, we don't go to the airport all that often and the life here day to day vs. Samui is much more our style and what we were looking for when we dreamed of moving here. So, giving that one thing up is not an issue when weighed against what we gain.

    ? Your not moving there, so why the title? Very few could afford the electric bill let alone the cost of buying a house this big. Small, efficient, energy saving condos are the way to go in Thailand as you spend a lot of time away and outdoors. Peace and Love Y'all.

      To answer your question about the title…by definition dreams don’t always come true. But living in Pattaya I expect you already have an acute awareness of that fact🤣🤣. All the best to you as well.

    My preference has always been the modern open concrete glass wall minimalist design. But after living here in Thailand for many years, with plans to to perhaps build in the future, I am now thinking to add some Thai/Asian elements to this concept

      It’s fun to explore and play in space this way, to learn what is needed and what is superfluous and how those desires grow as we do. For me, it’s more and more about simplification and quiet/calm spaces.

    I guess it'll do if you're on a fixed budget, but it would be nice to see something a little more upscale ;) Seriously, though. That's an amazing place, and for what it appears to offer it looks like a good price. The upkeep is going to be intense, though. You'll definitely need some full-time staff to take care of it.
