Salzburg 2 Amazing Days! & save money!
In 2020 we had plans to travel to Austria and Germany - then COVID hit! This summer nothing will stop us! We spent 4 wonderful days in Salzburg. This is the first of two videos on our adventure.
If you have only two days then you might consider this (summer) plan:
Early morning hop on a bus and head out of town to The Untersberg, mountain for a birds eye view. Have lunch on the top of the mountain.
In the afternoon (or after a nap) Explore Old Town on foot and take in all the sights and sounds of the city. Search for a restaurant that fits your tastes before heading out so as to avoid having to do that while your walking around.
If one of your days there is a Sunday then check to see what kind of service is scheduled at the Salzburg Cathedral. You don't need to be Catholic to attend! Go for the beauty and spectacle (most services are just one hour.) The service that we attended had a fantastic choir. Either way head over to Mirabell Palace and Gardens (Sound of Music park) to start your day. After lunch hike up to the Hohensalzburg Fortress (which we will feature in the next video.)
We purchased the Salzburg Card upon arrival and it saved us a lot of money. With the card one gets free admission to many of the most popular sites in Salzburg and discounts at many other. It also provides no cost transport on local public transportation, which was really helpful.

I've heard a few long term expats say "This is what Samui used to look like 25-30 years ago" and it makes sense. We lived on Koh Samui for 16 months and see the resemblance. By comparison, Khanom is much more chill, but continues to develop. Jungle Club on Koh Samui is a very popular Instagram spot for tourists. Khanom and Sichon is nice and quiet (have been there a few times) but transportation to international airports is a bit of a hassle. If you would like friends and family to come to visit often, getting there is rather inconvenient for them. Same if you want to travel internationally. It can be rather isolating as a result.

    • @edandtomo
      @edandtomo 6 днів тому

      Thanks for your thoughts. The airport is about 90 minutes away. Samui airport was much more convenient but the pluses here for us far outweigh the minuses. We recently traveled internationally and leaving our car very close to the airport cost us just ฿100 per day, and included pick up and drop off service! That’s hard to beat! We don’t feel isolated at all but that’s just our opinion. Living in a smaller community with good friends makes us feel very much at home!

    ? Your not moving there, so why the title? Very few could afford the electric bill let alone the cost of buying a house this big. Small, efficient, energy saving condos are the way to go in Thailand as you spend a lot of time away and outdoors. Peace and Love Y'all.

    My preference has always been the modern open concrete glass wall minimalist design. But after living here in Thailand for many years, with plans to to perhaps build in the future, I am now thinking to add some Thai/Asian elements to this concept

      It’s fun to explore and play in space this way, to learn what is needed and what is superfluous and how those desires grow as we do. For me, it’s more and more about simplification and quiet/calm spaces.

    I guess it'll do if you're on a fixed budget, but it would be nice to see something a little more upscale ;) Seriously, though. That's an amazing place, and for what it appears to offer it looks like a good price. The upkeep is going to be intense, though. You'll definitely need some full-time staff to take care of it.

We have started having a full medical once a year at Siph Hospital in BKK, £280 or 12600 Baht, we didn't get the eye test or the stress test, but did get everything else you have spoken about. We also got a food voucher & a consultation with a doctor, they gave us a printout of all the results & a CD rom for us to take back to the GP here in the UK. To say I was impressed would be an understatement, all done & dusted in four hours.

    The six-day Songkran festival holiday in Thailand ended in tragedy as road accidents claimed the lives of 243 people and left 1,837 others injured. As announced by Education Minister Permpoon Chidchob on Wednesday, some 1,811 traffic accidents were recorded from April 11 to 16, coinciding with the period when many individuals travel back to their home provinces to join in the Songkran celebrations. Motorcycles were implicated in 84.9% of these traffic accidents. Chiang Rai, the northernmost province, reported the highest number of accidents, with a total of 71, and also saw the most fatalities, with 15 deaths. In another northern province, Phrae, 68 people sustained injuries, the highest injury toll across all provinces. However, not all news was grim; there were nine provinces out of the total 77 that reported zero traffic fatalities during the Thai New Year festival, according to Permpoon. On the final day of the road safety campaign, which was yesterday April 16, there were 242 traffic incidents, resulting in 32 deaths and 237 injuries. Speeding was identified as the leading cause of these accidents, accounting for 37.6%, while drink-driving (23.9%) and reckless lane-switching (21%) followed closely. Permpoon informed that most individuals who had travelled for Songkran had returned to work by this point.

    • @edandtomo
      @edandtomo 4 місяці тому

      Yes, I’m well aware that the holiday has the highest number of traffic fatalities as compared with any other time of year. In the United States the highest rates are typically around Independence Day and Labor Day. It’s the same all over the world. It’s important for people to drive safely during these times, I totally agree but I don’t think the holidays should be canceled or looked upon for simply those statistics. I debated including some of that data in the video but decided that it’s not really my role and to just try and show the happiness that the holiday brings. I hope that you wouldn’t want to slight a person for celebrating Labor Day. None the less, I hope people read the statistics you pasted and take care in how they celebrate.

    Looks like a great place to live - not as touristy as Koh Samui.

      Yeah, we really like it. Not as many western restaurants but the trade off’s are worth it.

      Enough trash out there on the event. Wanted to show the other side and give the locals something to feel good about.

    I met Dan Collins and was introduced to Khanom Beach on January 30, 2024 (Taco Tuesday). By February 15, 2024 I had moved here full time (from Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan). I won’t say it was all due to Dan but he is a warm, smart, welcoming, man who convinced me that Khanom Beach was the place for me. Today, two months later, he and Nina are two of my favorite people in Khanom, Nakhon Si Thammarat. I LOVE it here.

      Could not agree more. We live here because of Dan’s hospitality and kindness more than anything else well, except maybe for the beach!🏝️

    Excellent video Ed. I’m in my early 40s and starting to ponder on what is important.
