I like this series. No auditioning for Hollywood. Just solid info.
Just got 1 working on it watching video learning
Nice rifle and great video
I really like this set up. Thank you for posting the video.
Can I ask what wrist size do you have? I am looking into this citizen. Amazing watch and even better views 👍
Very good set-up, you put a lot of though in it. Also thank you for scout scope review you've done!
I have been meaning to research scout scopes for quite a while now. I have not found anything even close to as comprehensive and well executed as your videos sir! I can tell you have put a lot of work into these videos and I am very happy I found them! Very well done.
How much did you size up your belt from your normal belt size?? Looking to make a setup very similar to this!
It’s NOT a Scout rifle if the scope is mounted n the traditional position!
Correct! However there’s something called experimental control! So conventional optics were included.
what if it accidentaly hit a human
Get some lighters. A whole pouch of lighters, bro. You'll thank me one day.
@@taterbug70 I do carry lighters. A waterproof match case is much more weather resistant than a ziplock and a Bic.
@OnTheScout ok good. Matches are garbage. They're fun to use on a dry windless day,but lighters are superior. Drive on!
Strike anywheres are superior to ferro rods. Zippos are superior to Bics.
Are you able to top off the magazine without removing it using individual rounds as well?
Ruger had a video of them touting this as a big feature of their poly mags.
Always killin it with short practical info vids!!
Good practical information . In "Jungle snafus and remedies" Cresson Kearny speaks very highly of using Permethrin as a component of mosquito control along with a double bottom hammock , mosquito head net and deet. He also speak of tightly woven cotton fabric of a quality that may no longer be available. Your comments on the pipe remind me of a book "Camp fires of the everglades" written in the 1860's , check it out . As usual a great video Don, your scout rifle vid's have been an inspiration.
Id be interested on seeing natural plants that actually work at keeping Mosquitoes away
I knew of some in Southern Africa but I don’t know any effective ones here!
@@OnTheScout I was eaten alive opening bear season in a meadow that was a part time bog. Ghillie suit kept a lot off but then they moved to my eyes. DEET makes me go numb all across my body
I know there’s lemon eucalyptus, and picadirin as alternatives to deet. In Southern Africa I’d rub basil and sage on my skin but it would only stop them for a few minutes.
@walterjriddle have you tried picadirin or lemon eucalyptus?
@@OnTheScout I've tried lemon and eucalyptus but to no meaningful effect hunting or moving in the woods or mountains. Not sure about picadirin
Stay safe pard , l enjoy your video`s
How to pre-embalm yourself prior to dying of heatstroke 😂. Some good info, but I definitely keep away from deet personally.
@@DieLuftwaffel lol
Cheers for the info from australia. Ive got a ruger ranch in 223/556. Takes pmags. Just got to add a flashlight and its a sweet do it all carbine. Looking at the scout for a 308. We cant have semi autos here only "manual action".
@@mf3281 I pray your country can have semis again one day soon.
@OnTheScout unfortunately won't happen. Aussies love to restrict other Aussies and ban anything they don't like, which is absolutely everything these days. Can't blame politics anymore when it's what people want down here. Aussies are boring, cowardly and weak mate, as they say "she's farked mate"
What happened to the people that kept the Japanese back from the South Pacific?
@@OnTheScout they're all dead now.
What distance? 100 yards?
As per the regulations for this online challenge I was shooting at 100m.
@@OnTheScoutThank you! Good shooting! Will have to try. Pretty sure I understand the math .. Total hits x 5 ÷ total seconds x 100 = score.
@Jimlahey7 steel targets are not legal for a final score. You must use a 8inch printed official target or a purchased 8inch target.
That’s a really nice setup, but you would never need to clean your rifle with that amount of ammo you’re carrying.
Have you never fallen into mud or sand?
@@OnTheScout I haven’t, yet. And I haven’t even thought about that. So good point then. Although I would hope to find a nearby river if I accidentally fall or drop my gun in the mud.
A Ruger has an open action, but even falling into sand with a sealed up AR will result in gritty functionality. Washing of all the parts will resulting in a clean but un lubed sticky action.
Love your content man. How do i find info about your guided hunts?
Email me at climbhikehunt@gmail.com I can get you squared away!
This tuba city ??
The Hi Lux looks like the best option on paper to me. The 308 BDC is even set for short barrel 308s which is awesome!
Don, your video quality is amazing. It’s like you have a $1 million budget from Discovery channel behind you. Blown away by what you, alone, have done with not just information, but video quality

God i love the UA-cam algorithm, Its late at night and I'm high as a kite watching Namibian porcupine hutting videos.
New to scout rifle game but with what I'm seeing it's a large variation in consistency with how torrents track or even just the large groups at 200+which is to be expected with the quality of the products I just with their was either a ffp long eye relief or one with repeatable turrets.
Good eye noticing this! The scopes were zeroed with 2-3 round groups. Most of these scopes are on cheap mounts too. Some mounts were Leupold QD so no actual torque value could be repeated. The rifle was shooting 3-4MOA M80ball ammo from 2 different lots from Lake City. Some of the scopes are new factory, some are used loaners. There’s a lot of variables that can’t be controlled with the budget at hand!
So you just hold the clip against the magazine and push down? I ronder if I can do that with my remington 700 and my AICS mags. . .
Thanks for the great information. They look great

You have a fantastic setup sir.
What layers did you use?
I’ll put it in the video description!
Thanks from Norway for an interesting video! What scope would you say is the best scout scope if also considering scopes not in production anymore?
I believe holy grail scout scope is an any Leupold scout scope with a factory CDS turret installed and a custom reticle with wind marks. That’s the VXR scout the VXFreedom and FX2. I personally have a VXR and a FX2 with CDS added but sadly the custom shop closed before I could send them in for reticle work!
Crazy that I knew you through Airsoft and I discovered this channel.
@@AsianWithHat good to see you. You’re a huge influencer now!
Hey dude you have a cool channel, it's cool to see someone doing this that is sharing knowlege from experience and not just show and tell with new gear as is so common on YT. Enjoyed your videos on the ruger scout as well. I mostly have settled on the ubiquitous green and black Mora for my needs. It does anything I need it to for bushcraft or basic hunting tasks and most importantly they're like $15 or whatever. . I have never lost one though I had plenty of knives that cost well over a hundo that got left behind, stolen, dropped in the ocean etc. Paired with something to chop with I've rarely needed much else.
Where did u get the leather hunting pouch I like it
Ironically I am not partial to leather. I did enjoy your scout optic review.
One of the better YT channels with quality useful content.
Nice! Don can u do a version of this for big guys and or people just starting out without the best cardio? I always end up soaked regardless of what or how I wear. I hunt in the cascades at a much lower elevation than you but still has mirrored temps etc
Fantastic video! Good to see all that beautiful leather. Thanks for all the information - looking to get into hunting myself, never did as a kid, but I need an escape!
Excellent information! Well done.
Love this!!
Thanks for your continuing reports on the Scout Rifle. Mine is a Ruger in SS with the 18.7 " barrel, laminated stock and a 2 x 20 pistol scope mounted forward of the receiver opening in quick detach rings. I'm using the MagPull Rifleman's sling and factory magazines. VERY accurate. I sighted the iron sights using 7.62 NATO, and the scope with 168gr. hunted loads. Very rugged and reliable. Best rifle I own.
