  • My hunting, bushcraft and outdoors belt kit. I use this belt kit every year guiding and hunting elk. Access to my equipment is not affected no matter how many layers I put on or take off. If I am separated from my pack I can still keep my weapons running, I can still quarter game with my hunting knife, I have fire starters and many other tools contained within the belt's pouch.

@jimbob465 listen, I understand that the scout rifle is the solution to a problem that no longer exists. It’s not practical, or the best tool for just about any situation, but it doesn’t change that I love them. I have my practical guns and realistic gear to go along with them, plus the training and appropriate time spent on becoming proficient with them. But I can’t stop the scout rifle from occupying a significant portion of my brain space at all times.

I dig this loadout so much. Tired of all the tactical crap and Call of Duty range ninjas who insist on carrying around a mountain full of gear and 5 different ARs, nice to see someone appreciate the classics and choose practical minimalism. I’ve always wanted a Gunsite Scout, but they’re just so expensive.

Good set up. I know I'm late to the party but wanted to add my 2 cents. If someone has budgetary constraints and can't afford the high quality leather goods you have, an Army surplus store is a decent alternative. The grenade pouches for both the old school LBEs and modern molle gear fit the polymer 10 rd Ruger GSR (AICS) mags and Savage Scout Model 11 mags perfectly. With all the available admin/fist aid/gp pouches available you can get a durable, functional rig for fairly cheap. Hope that helps somebody. Have a good one.

I would suggest that you carry a water container with nesting metal cup, a poncho, and an IFAK! Sometimes animals don't cooperate and you have to track/trail them for a while which means that you might have a hard time finding your pack because of darkness or sudden foul weather, etc. If these add too much weight, just add a set of suspenders! This makes me smile, when I started hunting back in the late 70's I used a hunter brand leather belt and their leather cartridge box (loaded with a few essentials). Also carried my sheath knife and leather ammo loops. I still used a small day pack for the other gear but that leather belt was always on! Walking into the local 7-11 near the hunting zone with my gear belt on was always good for a few laughs...

The full flap will cost a little in draw speed, but it sure saves a lot on bumps and dents and scratches. A hot beeswax dip would be helpful in wet country. Full saturation of the leather displaces moisture, waterproofs, and helps keep it looking nice.

  • @robertodebeers2551

Good setup. I hunted elk in central Montana for forty years, and I carried a Buck folding hunter, a leather pouch with 16-18 rounds of 30-o6 Springfield, a small pouch with matches in waterproof case, plastic baler twine, some plastic survey ribbon, and no pistol on my belt. The baler twine was useful for holding an animals rear legs open (in timber) to help with gutting. I also carried some absorbent white rags inside my inner-most shirt. Never used a backpack, although I did use a fanny pack, occasionally, if it was really cold with lots of snow.

Suggestions: load the spare magazine, add a candle to the pouch, and add an SOL large survival blanket. 50+ years ago, in the Army, we always had a poncho on our belt in the back. It felt good in the small of the back and had many uses. Some paracord would be nice too. Good Luck, Rick

A lot depends on what you are hunting and where. I hunt whitetails in Northwest Georgia. Old age has caught up with me (74) so I have had to change the way I hunt. The packing in on horseback or the long trek through the mountainous area I hunt no longer is an option. But I do have my "hunting belt" ready to go at all times. It's just not as well equipped. It's simply a knife, two speed loaders, and my .357. I wear a light weight outdoor sports vest with numerous pockets for all other essentials. My rifle (Ruger Gunsite Scout) holds 5 rounds and has an 8 round pouch on the stock. The rifle came with a 10 round magazine, but I have not used it in years now. In the vest, I carry another 5 round magazine for it. Since my health issues prevent me from doing much hiking and the probability or running across large predators, my only change on the belt is the absence of the speed loaders for my .357 and the addition of a machete and different handgun and ammo pouch.. When warm weather hiking I carry a Taurus Judge so I have a pouch with dividers for the .410 shells of various shot sizes and the .45 Colt ammo.
I really liked your video though. Although we do things slightly differently, we definitely think alike when it comes to practicality and necessity.

I hear you. I'm 70 now and my mule deer and elk hunting has had to change. Something I did teach myself is the gutless method of processing an animal. More work in the field but much less work at home. A folding saw is a must have for me when it comes to dealing with a down animal along with a good length of nylon cordage.

Good choice in holsters. If you want that gun to protect you, you have to protect the gun. Here are three ideas. I have my belt set up similar. Only I would trade out the position of your revolver and knife. Carry your revolver on your weak side so as not to beat it against the rifle stock. You're not looking to quick draw and you may need to draw that revolver with your weak hand. I wear my knife on my strong side.over the years I learned that I reached for my knife alot more than my revolver. And last, with all that weight that belt could lower you pants to the critical stage. God for what ever reason didn't give me a butt, so I added a pair of suspenders to help hold everything up. Other than that, that is a very good rig there.

I agree. Full Flap is the way to go for a woods holster that will be on the outside of everything. It may not win the speed drills, but it keeps a lot of trouble on the outside.
I've made a few. It's fairly simple on an auto, but the wheelguns can be a trick. Use enough leather, and cut it down. Also, a hot dip in melted beeswax is a great leather treatment.

Very nice setup. Simple, sensible, and looks great. I’ve seen this video a few times, on a different UA-cam account. Has a lot of good ideas.

One suggestion water bottle pouch with water bottle metal and nesting cup that bottle can fit in look at the path finder pathfinder bottle kit or a old school western style canteen

Old school! I suspect Jeff Cooper would approve of that rig.

I’d like to believe so. He’d probably be more partial to the 1911 than the revolver however.

I’m 3 years late but that is a pretty slick belt setup. I like your rifle too, although my eyesight is such that an LPVO works better for me. But I can tell that you’ve put some thought into your choices.

Thats not a bad belt set up. Its practical. My belt would have a Colt single action army, some cartridges and a buck knife 110.
