Please give me brother this I have low budget for get good raket and I have no Instagram😢😊
Winner will be drawn at random, it’s worth getting Instagram for to have a go. Good luck 👍
Is the most common response to this shot a counter drop to the front right of the court?
Yes it can be to play away from the server, the server could also anticipate that return as well though if they have intercepted the shot shown.
I got a question, if a open my chest then elbow angle does really matter in power smash like fu hai feng has 45 degree angle in elbow and victor axelson and rankireddy got 90 degree in smash posture....and second thing racket positioning....many keeps racket straight aligned to their forearm and some keep racket close to their head and chest ....so does it really matter for more power or less power???
We would probably favour the racket head sitting closer to head with strings pointing more forwards. This means there is less to do in the swing and the racket head should come back to contact naturally. I hope that helps?
I think where I make the mistake is after I open up my chest area, my swinging motion to smash it down to generate speed is slow resulting in a soft smash.
Yes maybe, that’s why we referenced the racket head speed as being a crucial area to think about, there are so many aspects that add to power but if the racket isn’t moving fast then it won’t be a fast smash. I hope this video helped you, keep us updated with your progress 👍
With the forearm rotation, should the forearm form a 90 degree angle with the racket or can the angle be higher ? Awesome video btw 😊
Thanks very much, pleased you enjoyed it. Anywhere around there will be fine but sometimes other factors can affect this such as height of the lift or body position. Hope that helps
@@TheBadmintonZoneHQ thank you 🙏
You’re very welcome, thanks for watching
its finally here ! time to re-learn the swing, i have alot of bad habits that are hard to un-learn. hope i can hit the smash with more consistency and confidence one day !
I’m sure you will 👍 check out episode 1 as well if you haven’t already. Hope it helps with your game 😀
Great video. I always end up with racket facing upward during swing. Finding it hard to change. A video on jump out/ china jump smash would be great as I struggle to generate power when hitting away from body on forehand side.
Thanks very much, jumps we will go into on the next episode. 👍
100% agree with the part about being relaxed, It's an issue I identified in my setup of my smash and it is Sooo difficult to try and stop doing. Psychologically its' "if I don't tense then I am not hitting hard" but in reality as I am finding now myself as I gradually learn to relax, the power is there and is so much more accessible, Definitely a work in progress for me, and it takes time to make it that 2nd nature action when in the heat of a rally. Great tutorial series, keep up the excellent content.
Thanks very much, staying relaxed is definitely easier said than done. Another approach can be to try and think of the racket head moving from the top of the swing to the bottom of the swing as quick as possible. Sometimes the tension comes in when overthinking about the contact of the shuttle and therefore over tense of stop the swing too early. Just another idea to try. Thanks for taking the time to comment
@@TheBadmintonZoneHQ Agreed anything that takes away the focus on actually hitting is what is working for me so I will absolutely give that a go. Thank you for the advice.
good stuff again. ive got a question, do you coach the turning of the grip by 10ish degrees toward panhandle for the smash stroke? or do you stay in the forehand v grip. i've seen both recommended, I've used both over the years experimenting both ways, not sure if one is correct, or if using the small rotation of the grip is bad form in the long run?
We have always stayed in forehand grip, it naturally means you have more forearm rotation when coming into the shot resulting in more power. How have you found practicing both grips? Have you had more success with one over the other?
@@TheBadmintonZoneHQ cheers for the reply, having playing around with both i think i probably get a cleaner stronger hit with the 10deg open grip, but not a huge difference. I will stick with the forehand grip and focus on fully pronating to square it up. Cheers!
Why is there 2 hitting sound after one swing. Whyyyyyyyyy?
Is there? It’s a single court hall so could be a small echo?
I love watching your videos, you are my inspiration that when I reach 40 soon, I still have hope in badminton!
Thanks very much for the positive feedback, we really appreciate it. Hope this video helps with your smash 👍
Ensuring the racket face facing to the left sideways is the one step im missing . Tq so much
Your welcome, hope it helps 👍 Thanks for the comment
I’m the first one here❤
Well done 👍
Hello again pls pin me❤❤
Hope you liked the video 😀
Saw some videos showing slow motion videos of smashes starting with fully opened fingers so relaxed before squeezing at the end I think on the badminton insight channel. This video is great for me to assign watching for my students. Thanks
You’re welcome, hope it helps them 👍
Can't wait for the next episode!!!! And laces in your bag...can't wait to tell the U12s that it was my idea hahaha!!
😂😂 pleased you enjoyed it. We are looking forward to the next episode as well. 💪👍
0:47 you can see in your face the conditioning is working
Thanks very much, it has been hard work but It’s certainly been worth it and paying off.
super hard! timing the block and gauge the distance to other side of lane is a lot to think, any tips learning this one?
Get a good bevel grip and it’s a big commitment to the swing, a slight slice as you make contact with the shuttle will help take the pace off and land it close to the front of the court. Check out the video below which covers the cross drive from the position. ua-cam.com/video/lrs1mNAZ4zU/v-deo.htmlsi=fYk5tq7lQQcupIFg
so are you moving the racket forwards slightly as its contacting the shuttle to slice it or moving it sideways? You always do the single step when doing drills?
It’s a bit of both, the sideways motion will add the spin but it’s also making sure you don’t think the bigger the movement the bigger the slice. Just a small movement from one side to the other will be enough to add spin. We have always believed that unless you’re practicing technique alone then it’s good to add a bit of movement to make it more match relevant.
😊😊😊
Loved all of the tips for competition preparation. Lovely to see progress in your match play David. Looking forward to your next episode 👍
Glad you enjoyed it 😀👍
Interesting insight on the nutrition. 2 hours before the match a porridge sounds like a great breakfast! I wonder how you do it, when you have several matches a day. Do you "sacrifice" one match and eat before that, so you can perform better 2 hours later, when its semis/ finals?
Great question!! What I do is eat little and often of my slow carb food. This will act as a drip feed throughout the day. Then 30 mins before my match have something slightly fast releasing and then really fast releasing before my match. Then repeat during the tournament. It doesn’t need to be much if it’s often
I watched your game that day. It was a really entertaining match. I played in that tournament as well.
Was this the Welsh tournament? What did you play?
Yep, I played singles qualification and doubles main draw. But lost first round for both against pretty strong players
Enjoy it? Do you have any other tournaments coming up soon?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Simple but so effective 😀👍
Good luck!
Thanks very much, we are up to episode 4 now, have you seen those yet?

4:20 Never eat the kfc etc.. Stick with organic whole foods and skip the animal products, additives, preservatives, etc.. Using a simple carbs will spike your blood sugar and you'll feel great, but these levels drop off very suddenly.
Yes switch out your white rice and white bread from whole meal. Essential eat a good balanced diet 💪
Been coaching that simple technique since 1989. There’s even better variations that are more deceptive 👍👍
Great to hear, sometimes the simple techniques are easy to over look. We find players sometimes show the lift too early but using too much arm and backswing.
what is the hydration powder you use or recommend? I have problems with Cramps and recovery. I don't want carbs
I use Bulk powders hydration powder. You could try some simple electrolyte tablets and then a protein shake for recovery
Can you gift me a 50 dollar racket I really need it

Excellent episode as always great to see how you progress from the start onwards keep it up!
Thanks very much Seth, pleased you enjoyed it.
As a fellow semi-pro badminton player, I've consulted a professional regarding tampering (for performance) last season. The tampering process we settled on was a decrease over THREE full weeks pre championship. I did not expect that. That being said, I followed the plan and never in my life did I play better badminton. His cue was: "You should feel like a raging dog on a leash the day before the tournament" So was I
Interesting approach, great to hear that it worked for you. As players when you find something successful that’s works for you there isn’t really a need to change it.
Worked with David before for strength training for badminton, the program worked very well totally recommend this guy. Oh and the wet towels brings back memories 😂
Thanks very much for the recommendation, we really appreciate it. Great to hear you had success following the program. We hope your enjoying the series 😀
I'm glad you showed the clips of you getting frustrated to show that even high level players can struggle to deal with some of the emotions and tilt of a bad match or letting something slip away. Love these episodes keep up the good work and good luck in next tournament :)
Thanks very much, when we discussed the idea initially we said it’s important for it to be an honest account of the journey rather than just showing the good parts, it wouldn’t have been a true reflection. Appreciate the comment regarding that. Thanks for your support as always.
Between matches do you strech?
I don’t do too much stretching, I prefer to foam roll and do some mobility exercises. Just preference
I once played the number 11 in the uk (at the time) at singles. It was my first tournament, a copper! Tier 4. The guy was rubbish and played loads of international tournaments for ranking points. It honestly baffled me how someone can be so highly rated, but so bad. All you have to do is play (and pay for the privilege) for your ranking points. All of us with full-time jobs are just wasting our time!
We think that was why Badminton England changed the ranking system and added grading. As your correct someone can have a high ranking by playing lots of tournaments and picking up loads of points. The grading system however you have to beat people graded the same or higher I believe to be upgraded.
Quality video, BE ranking really is rubbish though I'm an F grade singles player who is apparently rank 356, think I'd do well to get to 5 against you
Thanks very much, pleased you liked it. What tournaments do you have coming up?
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ Yeah the analysis is good and appreciate the advice on food etc for high level tournaments. Glad to see even at your level you have good and bad games. Only 1 left this year, MK tier 4 doubles only though
