Great idea for a series! It’s really interesting to see the details of what you’re working on. Also as someone who’s been lifting heavy in the gym for strength it’s nice to see some of the ideas for more explosive power exercises. A separate episode with more detail would be interesting (more details on the types of exercises for badminton, sets and reps, also what % of 1 rep max do you use etc. Do you do cross training for added cardio? Say z2 work on a bike?). Wish you the best of luck and looking forward to watching all the episodes.

Thanks very much, pleased you like the idea, we are really enjoying sharing the journey.
We covered David’s training timetable in episode 1 so make sure you check that out if you haven’t seen it already.
Each episode will focus on a different area so will provide further details in future episodes. 👍

really enjoying this, all of it, the honest self-assessments, the footage from competition and training, the time in the gym, and just the whole exposure and celebration of process here coming from an incredibly fun, difficult, and audacious self-challenge. i do have a comment about the issue dean raised about your follow-through from the backcourt. this is a common problem, and in my observation it always comes from one thing, and that is the kinetic flow of energy up from the floor does not adequately engage rotation in the hips. the hips rotate relative to the net but they dont rotate relative to the shoulders and other body parts. when a player's hips are rotating independently and in advance of the torso and shoulders, the dominant leg comes forward effortlessly and far. it's kinda like the rotating hips drag the dominant leg and the upper body into the rotation, so when you push off the floor, the energy goes up through the dominant leg directly into hip rotation and the dominant side of the pelvis immediately moves up and forward. when this does not occur, there is a short-circuit in the kinetic chain, the hips will not rotate properly, and the player lands with feet side by side, or else he feels an unnatural effort of the psoas to lift the dominant leg out of its trapped position before he lands, which is what seems to be happening here. that unnatural feeling is because no matter how fit you are your psoas cannot by itself extend your dominant leg enough, and trying to use your psoas to kick your leg forward works against the kinetic flow of energy and creates an energy gap or hesitation when you try to move from your swing recovery toward the net smoothly and quickly
an exercise that i've found can help with this is throwing the shuttle against the wall in full jump smash, coming forward to catch it as it bounces off the wall, and then explosively turning your body and stepping back for another 'jump smash', repeating until you tap into hip rotation and that toward-the-net energy. this is done standing as far from the wall as you can while still being able to catch the shuttle as it bounces off the wall

@@ReeceP12 yes potentially the filming from the tournament, sadly this was out of our control due to having little run off around the courts the vibration from the landings shook the camera. We were pleased to be able to share the insights from the matches.
Pleased to hear it didn’t affect your viewing. Thanks for watching 👍

Sorry about that, it was a message from Badminton England informing David that there wouldn’t be enough national tournaments for him to qualify. This means that David has to play 2 internationals to give the best possible chance of getting into the nationals.
Pleased you’re enjoying the series, thanks for your support.
