"New Engine Review": Atlas F40PH in NJT
Atlas O has always been top of their game. They come with quality, variety, affordable models. The Atlas woodside reefers may be the best fright car ever produced by any manufacturer. Their quality is unmatched.
Awhile back they acquired tooling for some locomotives from MTH. Here is the first one that I chose to add to my fleet. The New Jersey Transit F40PH. For personal reasons this engine along with sister engine #4129 hold a special spot.
Back in the 1990's as most of you know I was engine crew on Chesapeake and Ohio #614 for six years. We traveled from Hoboken NJ to Port Jervis NY which is about 87 miles one way. What makes the new Atlas release special? There were 2 protection diesels than ran about a mile ahead of us. NJT #4116 and #4129. So it adds to the memory of my experience with 614.
Sit back and enjoy this fine locomotive from Atlas. The details are superb. It comes with Protosound 3 and I am able to run it with DCS. For the first time in 30 years C&O 614 is re-united with NJT #4116.

Layout update and run session!!

With spring around the corner I figured it was time to make some layout changes, clean up and move around. I re-arranged my display shelves, and changed the layout scene a bit. I also finally painted the back wall below the table line. And saved some time to run trains. I have added some Pittsburgh stuff. Although Im originally from Johnstown Pa Pittsburgh is only an hour and 15 minutes away. R...

There are several different ways to clean track both manually and with the aid of track cleaning cars. I personally do both. The track cleaning cars I use are from Northeast trains. They are nicely made and detailed and really work good as well. Then we go to...

In todays model train worlds we have Lionel, MTH, Atlas and Third Rail with a few others. There was a great train manufacturer out of Northumberland Pa called Weaver models. Today we visit Weaver models and ...
The "New Evolution arrives with company"!

I've had three GE ES44AC Evolutions for awhile; I got a fourth. You can never have too many. Along with that a pre-order voltmeter came as well; I ordered two of those. So I thing the train is up to around 26 various cars with 4 fully powered diesels. Im using a ZW and 14 gauge wire for every loop on my layout, I like big trains. But with big trains you need big power. I have fuses and circuit ...
MTH PRR Mikado "A Product Review"
Переглядів 3,5 тис.Рік тому
Hey it finally came in! My pre-order of the MTH premiere mikado. It is in PRR and the USRA version. Pennsylvania railroad used both the USRA version as well as their own L-1 mikado. Although I do operate several railroads, my two favorite are PRR and C&O so anything from either sparks my interest. This model was well done from MTH, finely detailed. Sounds, looks and runs fantastic. It is the se...

"The little engine that could" AND DID!!
I just saw something from Ross I believe that there is going to be an announcement soon and it looks like from the hints that 614 will be restored to operation again. As to where it will run, who knows until more details are made known. It's a picture of 614's number plate and a 97% bar on a black background meaning that the announcement is very soon. How old is Ross Rowland, anyway? He has to be in his 70's now.
Bob is it possible to install the bridge on elevated tresels with fast track installation .. Also, is there any way to screw in the fast track ....your thoughts =.
I need to do this but that patch cord is sold out everywhere! I also have a Lionel Base3 still in its box that I haven't opened yet, and I'd like to know how to connect DCS to the Base3. That's a beautiful layout you got, BTW!
If you have the power cord, base and cab remote. you will see a track connection screw on base. Run a wires from the base to the ground terminal of the track. Thats it, its easy. If you have multiple tracks run wire to all the grounds. you can daisy chain it.
@@BobsOGaugeTrains Okay. Thank you!
Thanks for the video 😀
glad to hear you enjoyed it, this engine is a beast.
thanks for sharing your knowledge and like your layout alike. thanks for posting I did subscribe to you channel
Thank you Ed, Im glad you've enjoyed. I always try to keep something fresh or new on the layout.
WOuld C&O 614 be restored again once again.
I cant get into specifics at this point Max, but yep.
Thanks Bob for the "How To" coal Loads. Great job. I Have just one question though, what type of coal are you using and where do you get it in bulk if you can ? Thanks for your time and sharing.
Hi Brian its called black beauty. Its used for sandblasting. you can find it at grainger and believe it or not amazon as well.
That’s a world record for the most synchronized Smoke units in operation on each locomotive
thanks Mike. There are four there Ive had 6 steam=m at one point.
Wow…. Wow….wow…. I enjoyed your trains
Thank You I always try to change it up with something new.
The best wiring video I have seen! Thank you.
thank you Jason. Ive learned alot from the experts who have given me great information.
Beautiful
Thank You, the GG1 is one of the most iconic engines in history.
Very cool
Thanks Brian its the only tmcc engine I have but she is a beauty.
Just found this helpful video! Curious, at the end what gloss urethane spray are you using? I've only been able to find polyurethane gloss spray 🤷♀️, is there a difference? Thank u!
Hey sorry for the delay, honestly I use super gloss just because I like the look. You can use semi gloss or statin as well. Its all about preference.
Definitely the woodside freight cars for me. I love the vintage advertisements of the day.
I totally I agree I actually have the reefers on a train now, they are truley fantastic.
At first i thought that wss jesse ventura
no im much more built than the body ever was lol
I bought this after watching your video. Beautiful!
Glad you like it, I really enjoy mine alot. Real nice model of USRA mikado by MTH.
Holy Smoke 💨 you really love the EVO Engine. 😊 I admit it’s eye catching for sure. 👍🏻
A ton of power and I wasnt sure how it was going to end up. But they did hit 120 mph without derailing. The loop they ran on was 0-80.
My favorite line right there. Chessie / C&O on the go!
Thanks, i recently picked up the same paint scheme SD40 Chessie.
Can you control smoke volume on the Lionel switcher through the DCS remote?
Unfortunately you cant regulate Lionel smoke volumn with DCS. You need Lionels remote for that.
Appreciate that bob. 👍🏻
Nice video, you explained it very well. 👍🏻
Thanks I appreciate it, I try to make things easy to catch. All manufacturers always make it so difficult.
Probably one of the best train videos I've seen 😊
Thanks glad you liked it, the GE EVO's are great engines
Do you run your leads off the first lock on ? Or separately to each lock on on a large layout?? Forgot to ask you with my first comment 😊
Im using all four ports on the TIU since I have four mainlines. The two fixed channels you need to run command or protosounds two since they have fixed voltage. However the two variable channels you can bounce back to fixed or variable via the remote. Currently all four ports are running fixed.
@@BobsOGaugeTrains thank you 😊
what are you using for coal? is that black ballast or what? aquarium charcoal? nevermind. black beauty coal slag. got it
yup no problem Vader, its black beauty coal slag. They use it for sandblasting in the commercial market.
Hello and I have a question regarding powering a large track? I'm looking at a track running through my yard and probably 200' in length and can you give me suggestions on the best way to power this size setup?? And if I can just add lock ons to the track to maintain equal power levels and what type of power supply would be used? Thank you from a newbie to the hobby. PS. I'll be running the lionel big boy and other lionel o gauge locomotives.. 😊
Hi Johnny, as far as transformer power either a Lionel ZW or MTH Z4000 would be recommended. I would use 14 gauge wire since you are running a big loop. With roughly 200 ft of track I would would suggest minimum of 6 feeders . That would mean fresh power roughly every 35 feet. Stranded wire works best for our application. It sounds like your gonna have a fantastic setup. Is you have any other question you can always reach out. Let me know how you make out, your project sounds extremely interesting
@BobsOGaugeTrains thanks for replying and I will keep you updated with my progress on this project..
Really nice lay out by the way.
Thank you, Im working on a layout update. It will be out soon. Alot has been improved.
Are you a steeler fan?? :)
Big time Steelers fan. I was born in Johnstown Pa. Its like hour and 15 minutes from Pittsburgh.
hi bob thank you for your advice about how to properly wire a layout . i recently aquired a mth angus camelback its a real nice engine. well i only had 54 inch turns i had to upgrade the layout to 72 ,i also took out my older switches made the 72 independant of the other lines seem to be running real smooth have a great day. i have 1 question where can i get a pilot for a sd70 thax bob
They only place is thru MTH parts for the pilot. If that doesn't work I can suggest an MTH tech that could order it and repair it. Thanks for the feedback. Im planing a big video real soon; the entire layout has been re done and I think looks great with more detail.
Fantastic video! I’m using those sounds in my upgraded k-Line Mikado
thanks for watching, glad to hear you enjoyed it.
C&O 614 sure is a Beauty Sir Bob . it's the latest Steam Loco in my collection. All your Locomotives are beauties indeed. An awesome video Sir Bob 👍👍🚂
Thanks Guss, hope sall is well your way. Yes indeed, I need to get back there hopefully this summer.
Atlas. I have the A&P car and I love love love it. Awesome details and it looks good with the mikado!
I totally agree the Atlas reefers are the best freight car in the market. Thanks for checking them out.
🚂😎👍👍👍👍👍
looking forward to more trips this spring..
Hey. Bob haven’t seen you in a long time 🚂👍👍👍👍👍👍
hey Mr Shades, unfortunately back in August my husky developed oral melanoma. Many trip to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately January 2 he passed. Im still coming back. The trains are alive and well.
Did the 614 in Oct (20th?) '96 foliage trip HOB-> Port Jervis. I got awesome pics of the runby in Jervis. So close for the pics, I almost got blown over from the speed
Thanks for watching, most trips we did 3 runbys with each one going faster. Absolutely if you were close you got cinders and a push back. Those were the days
In the automotive circuit breaker what amp fuse do you
sorry for the delay, they are 15 amp
What amp fuse do you use in a circuit
15 amp auto fuses
🚂👍👍👍👍
Thanks Mr Shades. Keep up the great work.
Kool video. Happy new year Hope to see you soon
Thank you Mr Shades. Happy New Year. Be safe.
Hope you had a Merry Christmas, Bob! I recently picked up the PS1 614 for a great price, and I'm glad I did. My largest steamer so far- put a BCR in it and it runs great. Those are some awesome looking lash-ups you have there. Looks like those aux. water tenders may be somewhat rare?
Thanks Steven. Im glad you enjoy your Greenbrier as well. Yes the water tenders are scare but they show up on ebay once in awhile. Gotta be lucky
Die Lok hat Blaulicht? 😉😂
