- Yesterday I had the pleasure of being on Reading #2102 for the trip From Port Clinton Pa to Jim Thorpe Pa. Mr. Andy Muller and his staff always put a show on you will never forget. When arriving in Thorpe a street festival await you for the afternoon before heading back. Here lead engineer Shane Frederickson slowly guides the 17 car UNASSISTED train out of Port Clinton. Unedited footage shows the start up, cylinder cock release and both whistles this engine is equipped with PLUS the entire consist.
Many thanks to Mr Andy Muller for his continued hospitality, as well as my friend Keith for showing me a really good time.
There is something magical about a train hauled by a steam powered locomotive. Reflecting back to the 1970's when I hired on with the Erie-Lackawanna I had the privilege of working as a volunteer and paid member of the High Iron Company headquartered in Lebanon, NJ. Our excursions were pulled by the 759 former NKP Berkshire. Since I was single I had spare time so a coworker and I would spend one day weekly working on the equipment. We became friendly with Don Smith, former EMD diesel locomotive trainer, a true gentleman, Ross Rowland the owner operator, and many of the dedicated volunteers. The best part of the excursions were the layovers where we were bunked in one of the Pullman cars High Iron operated. Blue Mountain is truly a class 1 operation revitalizing the neglected ConRail trackage. I like your coverage and after 43 years of railway service I still enjoy viewing what you and others present, your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Its indeed an honor to hear from you Gary. Back in the 1990's I worked for Ross Rowland on the Hoboken to Port Jervis trips for six years. You mention Lebanon NJ; thats where 614 was at one point and the office of iron Horse Enterprises. Ross Rowland gave me my start. Andy Muller definitely runs a first class operation and was proud to be part of it 8 times this year.
@@BobsOGaugeTrains I must have met you in passing on one of those trips since I was the NJ Transit conductor for one of the excursions. I transferred from ConRail to NJ Transit in 1987. I also was a conductor and trainman for the Black River & Western in Ringoes, NJ during the 1970's. My original craft was as a tower man with the EL. I owned the 3rd trick at Dover Tower 11pm-7am so I could help staff during the days on Saturday and Sunday and had relief days Tuesday and Wednesday so I helped on the freight during the week, that was a paid position. The conductor Bill was a Penn Central tower man so we had a lot in common. I subscribed to your channel and am enjoying playing catch up with your past videos.
What a fantastic sight to see.! Awesome Bob.! Thanks 👍🏻😊
Thank you for watching Mark, this is the sixth time on #2102 this year for me; each time it get's better. I thank Mr Andy Muller for his continued hospitality in allowing me to participate.
Impressive, I have always liked that engine. Impressive operation there too.
Thanks for watching Guss, I fully agree. The first time she has been running in over 30 years-- so a special treat for all. She is a powerhouse. As for the operation. Mr Andy Muller and Blue Mountain and Northern run a first class organization. I thank Mr Muller himself for the continued hospitality and priveledge he grants me.
Thanks Bob! Enjoyed watching!
Thanks for watching Scotty. I decided no bells and whistles for this little video, just raw footage of her startup and pulling out of Port Clinton Pa.
Amazing train and sound!! 👍
Thank you I agree; the Reading #2101 is a spectacular machine! It is big and loud. Mr Andy Muller spared no expense in restoring it to the way it looked coming out of the shop.
A beautiful fall day and train
Thank you George, In the early morning hour's there was a bite in the air, but the day warmed up and with the foilage and 2102 it made for a spectacular day to Jim Thorpe.
Wish I had known about that run. Nice video, reminding me of our 614 hoboken runs, from years ago gary j
Thank you! It was a great run with spectacular weather and color. I remember the 614 days as well, I really miss them. But never say never, you will see 614 ride again.
Those were great runs. I especially enjoyed the trip with a N&W freight whistle on 614!
Awesome video Bob!! 😊
Thanks for watching; Mr Muller and the Reading and Northern really know how to put on a show. A first class organization.
@@BobsOGaugeTrains indeed
Beautiful start up!
Thanks I would love to take the credit but I wasnt the engineer. I made the connection this past summer through a friend that is an engineer there. I got to be on 10 trips in 6 months and met Mr Andy Muller who I have the utmost respect for.
@@BobsOGaugeTrains I met Andy during the first Memorial Day excursion. He was in the crowd of admirers around 2102. Even though I'd only seen a few pictures of him in videos, some 30 years old, I still recognized him. He was very cordial. I thanked him for all he's done for the rail community, both freight and excursions. I also met Ross Rowland during the August excursion. It was a great summer! We owe it all to Andy Muller! I don't think any railroad does better excursions.
It's so powerful
Thank you for watching William. She is a powerhouse for sure. She runs at 240 PSI and pulled 17 cars unassisted through the mountains starting in Reading to Jim Thorpe.
Did you know Bill Benson once owned that train Bob? I mentioned that in my ROW tribute.
No Hunter was not aware of.
