Nice locomotive but that banshee whistle would drive me nuts. I enjoy these videos and enjoy catching up on the past ones. You must have one heck of a bank account to afford all of these wonderful items. Have a blessed Thanksgiving, may God bless you and your family. Our prayers for those who are not as fortunate as we are. Praise Jesus!
Thanks for checking it out TJ, you are right always fun to open a purple box. Blue and purple lol. This engine is really spectacular and of course a new Pennsy I dont have.
Hi Bob, beautiful locomotive, that whistle and chuffing sound are amazing. Glad you finally got it in and thanks for the review..have a great weekend 😊
Thanks Keith it was actually chosen by my friend Sam. He is a good friend and does all my edits. He has a great youtube channel as well. I link him in all my descriptions.
A very impressive looking model engine, Bob. The steam whistle feature really nice, and the whistle has a great sound. Thanks a lot for the review and demo.
Nice Engine , MTH was saying it was difficult getting chips , maybe that’s why the Whistle feature changed . I picked up one of those USRA C&A MTH from the last run and it has the quill able smoke . Love that T1 up in Port Clinton , just saw her last Month (:
Agreed I can find out, but possibly the ability to do both quill and smoke was with another board manufactrurer or chip issue and it wasnt available or couldnt be copied.
@@BobsOGaugeTrains I do have a very small connection to Mikado. My grandfather worked for Santa Fe in the 1920's, and we have a photo of him where someone long ago wrote a joke on it about 'Mikado' -- but only because he was Japanese, maybe is the only reason. We're not sure if he ever actually worked on Mikados or if Santa Fe had them, but we have this photo.
Great video, Bob...I have an older one in Pere Marquette and I really wanted another one but with 4 USRA Premier Pacific's at $1,299 a piece coming in a month or so ago, it just wasn't in the cards. Really enjoyed the video, thank you for sharing!
Recent lionel enjines, like their light mikados ran much better than the mth stuff. Much better power pickups, no power interruptions no power problems over atlas switches with lionel stuff. And im an mth steam fanatic since 1997. Big surprise for me. Guys, have you had similiar experiences? Gary j
@@BobsOGaugeTrains Bob...You got me! My local train store, Engine House Hobbies in Gaithersburg, MD got one of these in. Ken, the owner, is unfortunately closing the store this spring to retire but I asked him to set it aside for me...I have a few other preorders in that I want to pay for first. I'm looking forward to getting the new PRR running in the next few weeks!
@@BobsOGaugeTrains I'm a big Milwaukee Road fan and don't yet have a Mikado, but just the same it's been fun trying to find MR engines to flesh-out the collection to where it is now. Happy Railroading!
Happy New Year William. Ive been waiting for this for awhile. I have a Lionel Southern 4501 and now this; so two mikado's. An L1 would be nice. Thanks for watching.
@@gusshadleythelunaticfromar7125 have the same problem with many mth engines going bad after very few run hours, in otherwise pristine shape. No shops within 2 hours here in nj. Dying sound boards, deteriorating speakers, failed smoker motors. Mth stuff is, long term , so disappointing, badly disturbing, but sadly, follows a pattern of nice stuff failing badly
Nice running and review video! Do you have any idea what the weight of the engine and tender are together? Also what the pulling of the locomotive might be? Thanks a lot for your video.
Thanks for watching Rick the engine and tender are 11 lbs as far as what it would pull I havent stretched the limit. It has pulled 26 Atlas reefers unassisted.
Good review, concisely explaining what we need to know. Recently purchased 3 lionel steam engines after 15ish mth steam engines. Shocked that the lionels go eveywhere on my 072 atlas tracks while my proto 2 and proto 3 steam engines have power interruptions, short hesitations, often. Thought it was my atlas track but it seems to be very inferior power pickups on mth steam engines. Im an mth train guy since 1997, but shocked how well the new lionel steam runs vs new proto 3 mth. Have you noticed the same disappointing mth performance. Gary j
I havent noticed anything significant. However is you are running smaller steam through switches you need to make sure the switch has power to all appropriate spots or you will have a dead spot. Also My layout is 8x24 I have 4 four drops (feeders) to each track. Depending on the size of your layout you may want to consider adding another power drop. Also if command do not use anything less than 16 gauge wire. I use 14 gauge but I run long trains. Most cases 16 gauge is enough but not smaller. Let me know if I can help.
Really enjoyed the video Bob.! Thanks for the MTH DCC lesson as I know very little about it. Nice to be above 1k Subscribers for both of us. BIG👍It's really hard for my channel to keep the watch hours up though.! Oh well, It's really cool to make 1k and I look forward to your next video.! Thanks 😀
Hi Kyle, on my layout there is nothing smaller than 0-54 anywhere. However the MTH Mikado will negotiate 0-42 curves. I hope this helps you. Thank you for watching!!
Hi Albert. If you are adding smoke to stack the smoke simply goes down the stack. If adding to whistle you gently lift the dome near the whistle. It is held in place with a magnet. You will see the spout, give 10-12 drops.
A very nice addition Bob.
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Henry for watching. It was fun doing this one, I really like this engine. I laid on the whistle a bit much ha but it sounds great.
Terrific new model, Bob. We can tell you really like that whistle 🙂👍 Thank you for sharing your love for the hobby with us.
thanks Batman, yea I kinda laid heavy on the whistle lol. It will definitely wake you up.

Very nice Bob, I love the whistle steam on the "Mike". They are both beautiful locomotives.
