Hi! I'm Gena. This plant channel was brought to life to share my experiences as a plant parent, with other plant lovers, here in the USA and around the world. Let's be plant friends :). We can share our joys and, let's face it, sometimes failures, and learn from one another.
I live in the very dry and very beautiful state of Colorado, in the USA. Because of the dry weather, and my desire to keep things as simple as possible, I "try" to limit my houseplant collection to those plants that I can easily care for in my climate. Some of my favorites are: Hoya, Dischidia, Anthurium, Rhipsalis, Succulents, Cacti, Carnivorous Plants, Scindapsus, Begonia, and Syngonium. That's a lot right? I have a plant addiction LOL.
I am also currently having a love affair with terrariums and building terrariums in glass jars.
My goal is to bring you planty content (at least once a week), that "leafs" you with a smile on your face :). Thanks for being here!

Steve’s Leaves Plant Unboxing | 4 New Begonias!
I got a Starry Night from Steves Leaves and it is beautiful, huge and growing in room humidity which goes into the 40s. I have had some that do acclimate after a full year, but then they are fine, like Jive which I thought would die many times. It is now doing well and I am raising cuttings. Anyway, loved this video, but then I am a begonia lover.
😂😅🎉 te felicito eres tan persistente 💚🪴
Thank you. That was very informati
I love my Rhips ❤
Sorry to disagree and being mean. The plants are *not* supposed to stay in an enclosed tiny space. They should get plenty CO2 to breath, and that humidity they release will not be good long term on that cabinet.
The cabinet isn’t air tight and there is a fan for circulation. They do great! Thanks 😊.
Nice collection, Gena. I forgot that you grew your begonias in high humidity, and let the ones I bought from you suffer. But it looks like the 2 benigo pinks are coming back. Yay! Gena, that's prob a juncus in the first pot with your Melanobullata begonia. Juncus naturally grows at the edge of bogs, and the reeds were used in basket-making. My favorite type has curlicue tops, making a great vertical accent "thriller" in outdoor pots with plants that also need moisture. Never thought about growing it indoors!
I think that’s it! I know when I looked it up the description was exactly that! I’ll probably forget again though lol. Oh no!!! Glad the benigo is coming back. They definitely do better in high humidity. Even some of mine get crispy in high humidity. I just have to remember that our plants will never be perfectly perfect 😊.
Wow! Beautiful Begonias🥰👏How do you manage to rank them in order?😅🙌They are all incredible. That roseopunctata is amazing😌💖I love your Begonia sinbad. I just bought a begonia juanita's jewel last Sunday, and I have the escargot🐌
Thank you! Oh I’ll have to look up the Juanita’s jewel. I don’t think I’ve heard of that one.
No todos sabemos ingles
You should be able to add captions in your language.
Rhipsalis are so cool! I got really into them a while back but lost several of them while figuring out their care, so I only have a few. My favorites are the agudoensis types and the really thin one (baccifera? I forget) and ewaldiana. What's your favorite?
I have the agudoensis. Mine is very slow growing but started as just a baby cutting. I'm looking forward to seeing that one a full sized plant! I think my favorite is my super long paradoxa. But I also love the platycarpa now that it's really taken off with growth.
nice video❤❤
Thanks so much! 😊
What a stunning collection!! My favorite is the Begonia paulensis💚💚🌸🌸
It is such a beautiful plant!!! Thank you so much!!! :)
They all look beautiful Gena. I’m enjoying all of mine too ❤
Thank you!!!! They are just wonderful :).
Looks magical!
Thanks, Kyra!!! :)
Love that paper!
I thought it was pretty cute :). Thanks!!!
Hi Gena, as always you look absolutely fabulous. I love how passionate you describe your awesome collection of begonias. A lot of types I’ve never even heard about. I look forward to your next top 24. I wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas filled with blessings ❤🎄
Thank you so much Sylvia! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas to you and yours too!! 🎄❤️💚❤️
Hi Gena 😊 Will you be having escargot and Ferox for sale anytime soon? Please 🙏
Hi! Well, probably not soon. I don't have a ferox but the melanobullata is similar and the one that will be available the soonest of the two. I have a few that have sprouted new leaves from a cutting but they are VERY slow growers for me. I haven't propagated the escargot yet so for sure that one will be awhile. Sorry I don't have better news for you! Thanks for asking :).
I love my two rhipsalis so much. They make me smile. No berries or flowers yet because they are babies. Nice short video Gena!! Love it!!
Thank you!!!! Some of them can be slow to grow from my experience and also take a year or two to bloom/berry. But in the meantime they are still fabulous as you know :).
I LOVE mine so much. i am anxious to put some up on my new living room plant rail. Well it is a very vintage rail but new to me in the lace t is now positioned.
I saw your plan in your latest video!!! That will look so cool!!!!
@@ThePinkTrellis I hope they will do ok with the lights above. I just think it will be so pretty. I need to deal with all those baby plants hanging on the rail. First I want to try and cover y large parrot cage with the heavy clear plastic. I hope to make a couple of my sad philodendrons happy in a mini grow tent. I will just use a diffuser for added humidity. I also want to strip and paint an old hamper and make a table out of it to set plants up on. I want to get them a little higher off the floor to try and keep the bratty kitty from biting holes in the leaves.
Love this so much! So many amazing plants! I'm waiting patiently for my melanobullata cutting to start growing! It has new roots but no leaves (above soil growth) yet! 🙄 it is a bummer that most/ so many begonia need high humidity because I don't have it to offer 😢. But I do want to convert my 55 gal to a begonia condominium 😊
I think a 55-gallon Begonia condo sounds amazing! 🤩🤩🤩. Some Begonia just take longer to start sprouting new growth from a leaf cutting. Mine don't always take but for the most part they do. I hope yours grows soon!!!! Thanks Aubrey!!!!
You look so festive! Beautiful top. Merry Christmas, Gena, to you and yours ✨
Thank you so much Tina! Merry Christmas to you and yours too!!!! 🎄💚❤️💚❤️😁
I love Begonias but have no room for humid areas
Hi, finn :). Begonias can be a commitment of space for sure...and time lol.
I love all your begonias! I have a begonia marmaduke, it’s beautiful, but how do you propagate them? I tried by cutting a leaf and putting it in water, it grew some roots but then it died. Not sure how to propagate, any help would be great! Thank you
Thank you so much!!!! I show how I propagate Begonia in this video linked at the end of this comment. It's how I do most of them. If not directly in soil, I put them in sphagnum moss. Both ways work for me. I've never propagated in water. Hope this helps :). ua-cam.com/video/l8hoAXmpgyU/v-deo.htmlsi=gtBPQDEMKv2iGRTO
@ thank you
What is that cabinet that you showed with the African violets and the begonias? It looks like one that I bought on Amazon, but I don’t have the plastic covering on mine.
It’s a Barrina greenhouse. I believe they come with and without the plastic cover. This is mine: amzn.to/3ZJokKq
Mine is a Bstrip...looks very similar!
Hi Gena! Fabulous collection! Cane Begonias really need to be cut back regularly. Otherwise, they get too big and sort of fall apart. And it's a bonus that they propagate so easily! I grow mainly cane begonias and a few angel/dragon wings. I have a few really large varieties, too big for a cabinet, canes are the least fussy of the ornamental begonias, so that works out well. I keep mine outside unless it goes below freezing, they don't mind temps in the low 40's. My favorite in my collection is Begonia "diner". I got a few cuttings from a begonia in the lobby of a diner. (after asking permission). The funnies thing was that nobody knew who owned the plant, even the owner!😂In the diner it was over six feet tall. I keep mine in a small pot so it doesn't do that. It has plain green, glossy smallish leaves, And it gets loads of lovely pink flowers over a long season.
Hi, Sue! So happy to see you here again :). Your diner Begonia sounds fantastic! What a great story on that one. It is definitely a good idea to chop those cane Begonias down every so often to keep them looking nice. I love how easy they are to propagate too. Really...they are the best genus :D. Thanks again Sue!!!!
Hi Gena! Oh boy glad you did not put these in order until the end!I love number 8 the Begonia Chlorostica Red! And was wondering about your begonia chlorosticta x chloroneura...I hope you still have it! Also enjoyed the fireflies and Paulensis! And your hairy ones! Oh my goodness I love them all too....I killed so many in the past years....glad they love the grow tent......I can imagine a whole grow tent filled! Oved this video so much and so happy for you and that you keep them all so happy! Love tina
Hi, Tina! Putting them in order would have been WAY too hard LOL. I do still have that one. It was in the milsbo wide and I just moved it to the grow tent. I felt it was too crowded in the cabinet and wanted to give it more room to grow. It's already pushing more new leaves since the move. Although it's quite leggy and I'm thinking about chopping it down and starting over. I have a lot of propagations of that one too. They can definitely take over a grow tent. I could dedicate an entire tent to Begonia VERY easily LOL. Thanks so much Tina!!!! xoxoxo
Beautiful begonias. I can't seem to keep them alive, but very fun to see the amazing varieties. Would you ever do a video on your african violets. I used to have a few but not currently. Would love to see them, and I'm sure it would inspire me to purchase one.❤
Thank you! And definitely on the AVs! They aren't doing too much right now. Some are blooming but most are not. I want to try to get them all in bloom or close to all in bloom for a video. Thanks for asking :).
So beautiful and adorable! Love the refresh and so happy you went back for the bunny!
Thanks Tina :)
The melanobullato was my first begonia. It got me started! 😊 your begonias are so pretty!!!!!
That Thelmaeminiture!!!!!!! Eek!!!!!!
The begonia I gifted you is stunning. Gena, I think it is a full doubled in size. I love how compact it is. :) so glad you love it!!!!
Thank you :)
You think so???? I can't tell because I see it everyday. But you would know for sure. I do love it so much. Thank you for the gift :).
@@ThePinkTrellis You are so welcome. It has at LEAST doubled!! Your shop is wonderful, your plants perfectly happy and healthy. I loved that plant too, but you are right. It scared me. I just don't have the terrarium knowledge at all. <3 Merry Christmas my beautiful friend. <3
Спасибо! Очень красиво!💕
Thank you!!! 💕💕💕
I’ve never seen so many gorgeous begonias in my life. Thanks for sharing.❤
That’s very kind of you!!! They are my pride and joy. Thank you 💚💚💚
The Molana Bolata , spelling?, is a really fun looking begonia. I LOVE the grassy stuff poking out of it. Your Begonias are so pretty. I just do not have the right conditions to keep them happy.
Yeah the grassy stuff is pretty cool. Adds some extra interest to the pot even though the Begonia itself is sooo interesting! Thanks Chris!!!! :)
So many beautiful begonias. We enjoyed the video so much. I'm going to keep it as a wish list that I will never fill all the way out because I just don't have room. Although I do want the Candy Stripes LOL what is wrong with me Jen loves the turtle shell and I can see why😊😊😊
Both of those are fantastic!!!!! Thank you both!!! :)
⛄💚Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas 🎄💚❤️💚❤️😁
It's not hoarding if it's plants😂😂 your begoinas are beautiful one of my favorite plants❤
Right!!! lol thank you 💚💚💚
Beautiful Begonias! I’d like to see an update on your leaf cuttings of Paulensis. I read it will root but needs part of the rhizome in order to create a new shoot/plantlet. 💚
Thank you! I actually just went and looked and I only have one leaf cutting rooted. I think I got it confused with the melanobullata (that I have multiples of) which has sprouted new leaves from just an original leaf. So far nothing on the paulensis so you very well could be right. I’m going to continue to let it grow. You know the saying, life finds a way. Maybe others never waited long enough. Could be a fun experiment 😊.
@ Life definitely finds a way. 🤞for the Paulensis propagation experiment.
That's why I'm your favorite friend, because 13 is my birth date💚😘💚 LOL
That’s got to be it 💚💚💚
Everything's beautiful 🤩🫶
Thank you 💚
Hi Gina I'm in New Zealand and one of my rhipsalis is also blooming, but in our summer...weird. When are they meant to? 🤷
Hi! I’m not sure actually. I guess anytime of the year 😊.
awe that egg crystal fits perfectly! ❤
It does 😊.
Lovely 🌿
Thanks!!! 💚💚💚
Your set up is tooooooo cute 😍 💕
Ohhhh my gosh!!!!!!!! The linearis!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ amazing! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!!!! :)
I'm so excited about your flowering rhipsalis! And love your thin leaf hoya ❤ out of curiosity, what begonia did you get rid of? Love these catch up/ update videos ❤ Merry Christmas 💚♥️ and you look beautiful in red!
I was really excited to see it was blooming too...and so many blooms at that!!! Oh gosh...I'm not sure if I can remember all the ones I got rid of. One was a harmony's begonia rex. I got rid of my masoniana/iron cross, also the peter piper (because I had others with similar coloration). Oh and I sold the ginny. Oh...and the soli mutata! I think that's all of them. Thank you so much!!! Merry Christmas to you :).
I enjoyed watching☺️🙌💖
I'm so glad!!! Thanks for watching!!!!
Hi Gena, fantastic video. I really enjoyed seeing your blooms, but my most favorite was the huernia and the rhipsalis. I’m so in love with the huernia bloom 😍Have a beautiful weekend ❤
Hi, Sylvia!!! Thank you!!!! The Huernia is such a different one. I have two Huernias, this pilansii and a zebrina (aka lifesaver cactus). They both have such unique blooms. Love those plants. I hope you have a beautiful weekend as well :).
As Chris Deberg sang (Lady in Red🎶) Great Video Gena Merry Christmas to you and your Family.🎄⛄❤The Red looks great!
Heehee :). Thank you soooo much!!! Merry Christmas to you and yours as well!!! 💚💚💚
They're all looking so pretty!
Thank you!!! :)
Love the Asparagus and the Huernia ❤ lots of other beauties, too! 😊 merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! 🤶🏽🌲🌸
Thank you so much!!! Merry Christmas to you as well :).
OH Cool you are propping some Rhipsalis. I need to figure, again, which ones you have that I still do not have. That is so neat you are getting so many Rhipsalis blooms.
I think that's the most blooms I've gotten at one time!!!!! :)
@@ThePinkTrellis That is exciting.
Hi Gena, everything looks beautiful! My favorite are the succulents! They are adorable in the planters. The plants really do thrive in the grow tent. Merry Christmas! 🎄 🎅 🧑🎄
Merry Christmas to you as well!!!! 💚💚💚 I'm partial to succulents too :) Thank you!!!!
