I watched your first video on propagating linearis using the same hormone powder. Total success. I want to add them to make a fuller mother plant but I have to get the courage to remove them and add to my mama one. Would a plastic chopstick work to make a small hole to place them. I totally loved the process and have other babies to pot up. Also thanks for the info on what you use for pests. My syngonium collection had what I believed to be thrips. Tried spraying but I didn’t change the soil. I decided to get Bonide systemic which was scary. It’s been a few weeks and I haven’t seen any live ones. It is supposed to work for 8 weeks. But I won’t use it again. It was hard to get it deep enough in my diy soil. Thank goodness the syngoniums were in a different room than my other plants.
Oh awesome!!! Glad it rooted successfully for you. I use a chopstick to make holes all the time. It works great! Then water really well to close up that hole around the plant roots. The Bonide systemic worries me. I bought some a couple of years ago but the fact that it's a powder and it gets into the air while treating. I don't know....I prefer to go a more organic route. I really worry about using any sort of pesticide.
Happy Sunday Duncan!!!! Lucky you :). I know you'll be enjoying your day. I'm looking out my window right now at a beautiful Fall-colors tree. I'm sure they are even more brilliant up your way. Have a great new week :).
Hi Gena, you did awesome explaining the process. I enjoy seeing my cuttings🌱grow into beautiful plants. I’m going with the string of hearts. I don’t own a linearis yet. Have a beautiful week ❤
Thank you Sylvia!!!! Glad it made sense. It's a pretty easy process but sometimes I struggle to explain things LOL. You have a lovely week as well!!!! :)
Hi Gena! Thanks for such a great video! I haven't tried the liners yet. Thd string of hearts is my favorite. Sadly whenever I repot it, I don't have luck with it. You look so beautiful wuth your new haircut!! ❤️❤️
Thank you so much Nicole!!!! SOH can be tricky in my experience. I have never tried repotting one...thanks for the heads up!!!! And thanks for sharing your favorite :).
It can be tricky!!!! My struggle is balding at the top on those plants. Happens every time and it doesn't make a bit of difference if they are getting higher lighting. No clue why. Thanks for sharing your favorite!!!
They can definitely be problematic. I've never had a big bushy full pot of it. Mostly because they start to bald at the top for me LOL. I just stick to little pots of SOH. They certainly have no problem growing very long in my care. I'll take what I can get with that plant. Thanks for sharing your favorite!!! :D
Hi, I am kind of new to your channel, have watched only a couple of videos and so far have learned a few tips especially since I am somewhat new to the Hoya world. I have a Hoya carnosa for many years and just recently found out about how many different types of Hoyas plants are. So I have just started growing some of my own and unfortunately some of my new acquisition have already died on me. Looking to learn how to keep my cuttings alive I found your channel and I’m very glad I did. I think I prefer the Hoya linearis over the string of hearts even though the string of heart is very pretty😅
Hi! So happy to have you here :). Hoya are one of my favorite genus of plants so you'll find Hoya information here for sure. It's not always just about Hoya, but I think I do spend quite a bit of time on them because I do enjoy them so much. Sorry you have lost some new acquisitions. I do a lot of propagating and have extensive experience with keeping cuttings alive and growing. Hopefully you'll find the info I provide will help you with your own growing experience. Thanks so much for being here and thanks for sharing which plant you prefer!!!!
You are a sweetheart!!! I've had a busy day of packing up plants so not much time to enjoy this day although the windows have been open all day and it's the perfect Fall weather. So I was still able to enjoy it :). I bet it's just wonderful up in your neck of the woods right now. Have a lovely new week!!!! xxoo
LOL Perfect timing on this. I wanted to do some hoya Linearis propps to try and fil in the top of my mother plant. Well the humidity part rang a bell with me so I had to go out and get my smaller aquarium cleaned and into the house to use. I also propped many other hoyas to fill in one or two stem hoyas I have and now I think I can get all of them into the tank. And also add in some of my new hoya babies that are in nursery car mode. Fun fun fun. This is my first time propping directly in soil except for succulents. OH of course my favorite of the two is........................ Drum roll BOTH!!!! I can not choose.
Hehehehe...You aren't the only one that chose both :). Let me know how soil propping goes for you!!!!! Warmth, light, and humidity, and you should be good. Thanks Chris!!! :)
Thank you for covering one of my favourite plants. I seem to have more success with semi hydro with this plant but should say mine are still small so can not wait for them to look like your mother plant. Sometimes instead of fertilising I just spray Hoya with Orchard spray. Thanks again 🌻 Varigated SOH or Linearis, oh my can not answer that. I am down sizing my collection soon and will be keeping both.
It makes sense that semi-hydro would work well with the linearis. I find it to be a water-loving plant :). I think for anyone that has struggled with this plant, but wants to have one, semi-hydro is a great option. You are not alone in not being able to pick a favorite between the two :D. Thank you so much!!!
I have a variegated string of hearts. It’s very small in comparison to yours. It is growing so that’s a plus. I wish I could find a linearis near me. So I have to go with the one I know. My vote goes to string of hearts. Thanks for sharing , you are one of my favorite plant channels to watch.❤
Another great video we like your shirt I think we will propagate my Hoya linearis for Jen now that you've done another great job of showing us how although I really love the Hoya we are both voting for the string of hearts hey what do you know we didn't cancel each other out this time😊😊😊
Great video! You're an excellent teacher, and this is a wonderful resource 💚🌱 I too like to prop hoya in chunky mix and put in a prop box with a bright grow light on a heat mat and have very good success. Favorite- its a difficult choice but I pick the linearis.... but I do own both plants lol. 🌱💚
Thanks Aubrey!!!! Propping right into soil is my favorite way. Basically it's one and done, until it outgrows the pot of course :). Thanks for sharing your favorite!!!!
So glad to hear it!!!!! You can propagate yours to make a fuller pot, if you like. Those stems, already in the pot, will most likely start branching off too, to give a fuller look as the plant matures :D. Thanks Charlene!!!
Wow, you put 6 stems in each 3" pot you sell? Now I'm really, really excited to get the linearis from last week's sale. Broken record here, but I absolutely love that your plants come grown in soil, for lazy bones like me. Gotta make acclimating easier for the customer and the plant, huh?! Thanks, Gena! added: what happens to the cut end of the mother plant? Does it branch,, or does cutting it force new growth at the root level, or does it continue growing in a straight line? Can you tell I am fascinated by this hoya?
In these guys I did 6 cuttings each. In the past I may have done 5. I wanted to get even fuller pots going forward :). Sometimes a cutting doesn't make it so having extra in the pot helps. Yes....I always appreciate a plant that comes to me with nothing for me to do (no transferring to my preferred medium :D). Thanks so much Kathleen!!!!
I have had a lot of success using Fluval, but knocking it over is a nightmare. Lately each time that I knock it over (like always) I keep telling myself this is the last time. Linearis are the most beautiful hoya. My first hoya from you (and my first hoya) was a linearis.
Knocking over pon is a nightmare too but fluval is probably worse LOL. It's so messy and it's a turn your fingers black messy, like mud LOL. Those fallopia (sp?) cuttings are doing marvelously by the way!!!! No wilting at all :). Thanks for sharing your favorite!!!! Have a great new week Tamra!!! xxoo
