Australia
Приєднався 30 сер 2011
I’m Billy and I’ve been travelling around Australia in a 2019 VW Crafter 4Motion Van which I converted into an off-road Camper, its been just about every place which other vans do not dare and places only serious off-roaders go.
I now also have a 2023 Quintrex 520 Ocean Spirit trailer boat which I take out on reef and island adventures.
Join me on an adventure exploring Australia.

I love me a challenge and none better than putting this VW Crafter through its paces, pushing it to its limits. In this video I take my Van through a remote area of the BOONOO BOONOO National Park into some very difficult terrain, I get stuck and have to use my winch to get out.
TREASURE MAP?
Переглядів 2225 місяців тому
Deep in the Australia Bush, I found a secret location which contained a MAP carved into a granite boulder in one of the cave hide outs of "Captain Thunderbolt" who was an famous Bush Ranger from the late 1800's. He was known to have robbed the Gold Carriages been transported to Tenterfield and also robbed travelers all throughout Northern NSW. Could this Hidden Map lead to Captain Thunderbolt's...

The East Coast of Australia has been particularity wet for the past few months with a Cyclone, lots of Rain and Bad weather which creates dirty ocean water which is very bad for spear fishing and diving in but it some cases it can bring in Crystal Clear Blue Water from the South and East. In this episode I go over some of the things I do in the meantime and then things don't go to plan when the...

I head out to Moreton Island with my mates Angus & Eric for some Drift Spear Fishing, its probably going to be the only day we can get out there for a whilst as there is a Cyclone (Cyclone Jasper) heading towards Australia's East coast in Far North Queensland which is bringing with it more wind and larger waves. Join us on this adventure where we Catch, Cook & Clean all our Fish. Moreton Island...
Will I Run Out of Fuel?

Black Reef is a long way off from Airlie Beach and conditions have to be just right in order to get there and back without running out of petrol, my travel path will however be: 1. Day 1 - Port Airlie to Hook Island where I'll stay the night 2. Day 2 - Black Reef where I'll spend the morning spear fishing followed by some trolling then off to White Haven Beach for the night 3. Day 3 - Hamilton ...

Hi great info did you have to change your shocks when you did the leaves and springs? How much more GVM did you get and is it all legal?
Standard shocks, its legal but I didn’t need certification because the weight is still with specs.
My parents and I visited Broome in 1969 on a long driving tour around Oz. We stayed at a caravan park with a very rocky section of coastline. As I recall, the local businesses had two-digit phone numbers back then. No big planes flying in! All different now. Seems a long ways to go to see remote terrain and beaches, WA has lots of that!
It is a long way, much better places to visit thats for sure
You should’ve shown us how to setup the wrapped around awning 😒
Yes, I should have.
Tidy job! Thanks for giving me more ideas for my own take on swing out spare wheel carrier!
No problem, I just remade them out of Alloy as the steel ones started to rust, video out soon.
You Should Have Gone To The Reception To See If They Had Any Vacancies……………
Ha maybe, some buildings have no damages, they could reopen part but I suspect insurance is now a problem.
Crazy
A little 🙂
Excellent video. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
I live in North Mission Beach North Queensland. I see Dunk Island every day
You live in paradise my friend!
This was my home and work for a while in 2005. I was google mapping this place to see what it looked like, and if it was going again, your video popped up and helped explain it. Thank you heaps. The Palm trees were all along the front of that pool on the beach. The other cascade pool behind the restaurant is obviously filled in now. In the video I at the stairs to the restaurant, I could still see us there at the new years eve dress up party. It would have been so cool if you went up the main path that takes you to the staff living area only 50 metres further, nevertheless this was good to see.
Oooft good way to hurt yourself mate. You should be 1.5 times the distance of the rope away from the winch line in All directions. When they snap they are deadly. If that winch stops from too much tension your probably close to the ropes limit as well. Good luck with the stump removal
All worked out well 👍
I went there with my mum 30 years ago. Was so beautiful. Still is.
Sure is!
Hi! I loved the video. I'm visiting in the month of October and would really love to try this place for snorkelling. Would it be fine to snorkel then?
Yes, definitely! It’s spring time so there will be Whales around too
The 270 degree awning is a hard find in Europe, which one are you using? I'd like to see them more but in there regions the straight pull out awning is common fare. Could a high roof (2.6m) long wheel base (6.83m) van work with a 270 awning? Great video by the way :)

Not sure if it will fit, maybe talk with a fitter
Would it be warmer this time of year, ? May’24
Always warm there
That be a nice quick swim back out to ya boat stepping on crocs
Lucky that day 🙃
Great footage , living the dream :)
Its pretty good
Well done good choice . We have a 540 Ocean Spirit with a 135hp Mercury it is the perfect boat for us fishing , camping , touring. Looking forward to watching more of your travels.
Very nice! 540 is sweet a boat, towing that weight was a deal breaker for me😭
With the ridiculous building standards that we have today, this resort has bugger all chance being funded for restoration I stayed there in 1990, beautiful island
Thats the truth!
The Australian government should be ashamed of themselves leaving the resort in that state
Empty promises so far 👎🏽
Hello Billy. In an earlier video talking about your van, you stated that you had a suspension lift using a spring maker in Morbank?? You said that this resulted in a payload upgrade. How much was this upgrade? The Crafter 4Motion only comes with the lighter van which only has slightly more than 1tonne payload. (I am doing this off the top of my head). UA-cam videos of these camper van gurus in the states show that the full timers living in their van get to carry around 3 tons (US short tons). They either carry this full time or have a storage unit/ home base and pack for winter or for summer. Lighter 4 wheel drive vans means that payload dictates what goes into a van. So you have to weigh between a 4x4 towing a trailer or van, vs a 4x4 van vs moving to a cab chassis with an expedition box. Hence the question.
The payloads vary between the can sizes, mine is a medium with low roof & they go all the way up extra long with extra high roof. Which van you choose really comes down to where you want to go, so if it’s off road then the choice is simple…..4Motion. The guy in moorebank closed, im currently looking at overhauling the suspension and am l considering custom front coil overs and factory leafs from a 3ton model
@@SaltyGypsea Thanks for the reply. I would be looking at a medium with a high roof. I was looking at an indication on how much the upgraded suspension uprated your van's payload?
I call BS. No one can live in their van and keep it like a photo shoot.
She did tidy up but it all took 5 minutes.
Vans are so small in comparison to a house. Only takes me 5 mins to make it look spotless 👍🏼
All depends on whether or not you’re a slob.
She could simply be a compulsive cleaner
@@sharon_shaw ...and I'm an astronaut. This whole van-life for clicks nonsense, has be debunked too many times.
Great video
Thanks!
I like the van. I assume it has a wet bath ? Also I didn’t see a black tank gauge. Is the toilet a cassette or dry flush ? Are the Fiat vans sold in the US ?
It is wet area and the toilet is cassette which she doesn’t use as she has a lot of other options.
Love it. Safe travels
Thanks 🙏
Good job Billy !! Awesome set up too and what a brave chick all on her own! 😎
It’s really not that hard, just need to make the first step 🙂
Just stumbled upon your channel and I really like the content. Keep living it mate. Life's short Subbed 👍
Welcome aboard! 🎉
Nice guy! Good story.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love your Bull Bar. I'm wondering about a winch for the Crafter (With ACC sensors). I cannot find this available in Australia. However, I've found it in the UK via VanWorx. Unfortunately, VanWorx are not prepared to share information on the the fabricated mount or sell it. How would you like a challenge to fabricate me a winch mount (for the appropriate free of course) ? Take a look at this link to see where the cable exits the bumper...ua-cam.com/video/b5Ywxs-bg_U/v-deo.html. I'm sure there would be lots of takers for this.
Would love to have a workshop where I can fabricate parts but my lifestyle cant accommodate it. Perhaps in the future.
Hi, would you say its possible to snorkel there as a beginner? Hence im not that experienced i cant hold my breath thats long.
Yes, most of the visitors snorkel in the surface
Bull Bar and ACC Adaptive Cruise Control. Worryingly Im finding it hard to find recovery points and/or winch mount for the 2024 Crafter. I did find one but its not suitable with ACC. Would your bull bar work do you know?
Hi 👋. I don’t have ACC but do have the Front Assist & Emergency Brake option but I removed the front sensor because it didn’t suit my design, I think the ACC sensor is in the same place.
Well done bloke, big country out there. The comradery between fellow travellers, love it! Looking at heading back there from the east soon to show my wife and kids that stretch of coastline.
Thanks! Definitely worth another trip.
Even that old 45 series landcruiser, i remember the day it arrived down with the Kalgoorlie boys. The tray was level with beer😂😂.
Well it’s pretty dry out, beer is exactly what is needed 👍
Boys from Kalgoorlie laid the conveyor belt probably 30 years ago from memory.
Makes a difference that’s for sure
That old case comfort king tractor belonged to my dad. Was gifted to the man that owns the fishermans shack. Spent alot of time out there years ago.
That’s cool! I wonder if it still runs
@@SaltyGypsea I reckon she would, not much to go wrong with those old girls. Was taken out there to pull a big abalone boat through the track once the 4wd ran out of traction.
Nice van indeed - how reliable has it been and what would you rate it out of 10 for satisfaction and ownership?
💯
Nice review of Broome and surrounds. We visited there in July 2022 and after so much hype you see on UA-cam we felt a little underwhelmed. Mindel beach in Darwin was the same. All the hype over the food. The food was overpriced sub par. Adelaide central market leaves it for dead. Anyway, we would visit Broome again but I must admit the surrounds are more interesting.
Underwhelming for sure!
I drove up there from Adelaide, the best part was cable beach the high tides and the dinosaur footprints but by far the best was Cape Leveque up the road, the old Catholic missionary up there, i had chat with the priest and the locals, was magic there, and Derby the jetty was another amazing place to be for the high tides, and after that Kununurra the town itself that i very much loved and Wyndam, whete the hotel owner was also an ex pat from South Oz, its also worth checking out the Ord river scheme irrigation project and lake Argyle, i swear that Kununurra produces the best Mangoes anywhere in Australia!
Awesome!
Visited Broome. So many drunks walking the street and begging at the shopping centre. Disgusting
Govt, definitely needs to pull its socks up
You mean, no safety?? Crimes more ???
Hello! Would you say it is good to snorkel dive in late march in Byron bay?
Absolutely 👍
I'm gonna build my own winch plate and bar work on my vw caddy. It'll be a one of a kind where I am
That’s awesome!
It's surreal watching a UA-cam video where there's several people I personally know well. It took me a little while to realise with the lighting, but I'm actually good friends with the girl hula-hooping at the start and I've performed with her several times before. I've never been to Orin-Aya though because it's such a trek and there always seems to be another festival or doof happening around the same time that I'd rather be at. Also, having been told about that fatal incident and some details behind the scenes that make it even darker, I don't think I want to go to Orin-Aya anymore anyway.
It was a shame, that location is pretty special.
You should sell the steel templates
Good Idea!
hello from Moscow
Oh wow! Hi 👋
from what i understand that when i was in Broome in the peak season is the gray nomads take over all the accommodation and the locals hate it especially the small business as talking with locals the nomads never spent a a cent as they have done the cammel rides and the tourist stuff hence why you see the town empty, i loved broome but as the peak builds you get pushed out.
Place isn’t my vibe
mate bravo on ya build, can you tell me what did you do about ya gas bottle umm you know with storage and venting or didn't you stress about it?, im asking as im about to get myself a van and just getting my duckies lined up before i start
Mounted under the van
I’m in Australia too and just bought a brand new 2023 Mercedes sprinter… really don’t want to live in a house anymore at 54.. new subscriber too ! 😊
Welcome! Houses are overrated anyway! 😝
Great work on the recovery, and thanks for the info on the window. Cheers
No problem 👍
Great content I love your spare wheel mounts. Also where did you the Dometic window in Aus??
Thanks 🙏 Window was through a caravan parts supplier in Lansvale NSW
Well done looks like you do not have the rear diff lock ?
Thanks and thats right, no diff lock.
Nice job on the boat happy fishing
Thanks Perry! 👍
