Hi, My videos are mainly about the different aspects of my daily life, a lot which in some respects are less exciting than they once were but have way more content. Based in a remote northern tiny village my struggles and dangers are all very real. A harsh place to live with little financial resources I am learning a whole new way for life for me but one that has been and is still very real for most Arctic regions around the world. Here metals shatter like glass in the winter, our only source of heat is wood, modern resources are scarce and the nearest hospital is an hour away, as are supplies. The summers are spent gathering and working, the winter which is our longest season is spend creating inside my shop, snow clearing and logging.
I wanted to share my extensive and varied skill base if of any use and help others know the pride and pain of stepping out of society, all be it by accident. Financially I have never been so broke, yet my life has rarely been so rich.

Oldest Abandoned Rotted House on the East side of the River. Can I fix it?
Переглядів 1,5 тис.14 днів тому
This is one of the worst cases of rot I have seen on a house still standing, it was built on a sand bar left behind by the receding ice age and is not looking good. The house has a heavy lean and is very fragile. Here I will dig into the structure to see what is possible. Thank you. Contribute here www.buymeacoffee.com/arcticrebel

If there is one thing all mechanics can agree on, it is how difficult transverse engines are to work on. Made worse by being in a van. I am no fan of working on post 90's engines but if I don't do it the van is scrap. I have no funds to have it repaired or replace it so we stayed focused and worked though it with no workshop manual either! Contribute here www.buymeacoffee.com/arcticrebel

Thank you Scott and enjoy your Christmas.
Thak You.
No problem Vlad, I hope it helps. Good luck with the job
Hi Simon, You got quite a lot of snow. Here in the southern part of Norway, we got about 5-10 cm last night. Not much. The Old Lady is starting very easily in the cold weather. Do you have any kind of heater on the engine or water? I have an engine heater on my tractor; if not, it's almost impossible to start because there are no glow plugs. Take care and stay safe, and I wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Christmas greetings from Norway.
Hi, yes the Volvo must have heat or she will never start. I have the water heater on a timer. It has 30 mins of heat every hour from 03:00hrs. I have had 5am telephone calls for help and if it is not got heat then there is no help from me. Enjoy your >Christmas and thank you
Merry Christmas Simon, Stay safe & Keep warm🇬🇧🇮🇪.
Thank you too.
Merry Christmas to you and family . Got 8" of snow here port Washington wisconsin . I feel for you . Plowing in open cab tractor . Takecare . Thanks to your brother happy birthday . Enjoy the holiday's
Howdy Neighbor! I think we in Beaver Dam, Wi. got a little more than 8", more like 12". It was light and therefore easy to throw around. Good video Simon.

Happy Christmas and thank you very much I really appreciate you.
Howdy Simon- well you’re back to the winter routine again. Lady Volvo just keeps on going which is a testament to the quality of the older machines. I really think you should be named the village angel for all you do for people. This old world could definitely use more people like you. It’s wonderful to have a brother who is willing to help you with the computer stuff. Everyone in my family can use a computer except me- I’ve never turned one on. I want to wish you and your family a very Merry and blessed Christmas. God be with you all
Hello Paul, I hope you and the good Lady are well. We have been working flat out for days now so I am also amazed at how the old girl is working. I do not even know why I don't dislike her more. Heavy, cold, slow and bloody hard work but we just get the job done. I know I am not the last man using an old girl like this but I would be surprised if anyone goes as far as I do in one. There were many good men here, so many have gone just recently it is hard to fill all the shoes but we will try until we can no longer. I know I have never worked so hard for little and have no idea why it does not bother me, we have wood and some food and an old van so all is good. I wish I could say the same about computers but I am really quite good it is just a shame there are not more hours in a day. I would like to wish you and your a very Happy Christmas and thank for another year of your support my friend. God Bless you all.
You have settled in to your winter routine of plowing snow. And then plowing snow and plowing snow.
LOL you have no idea, but you will the old girl and I are about worn out already!
You seem to be a lifeline for people whe need assistance Simon. Helping others is as it should be. Please don't let anything happen to you buddy. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
I can only do my best Matthew after that is is in Gods hands. Happy Christmas to y'll.
Merry Christmas Simon, from Panama City Florida, USA. 🇺🇸🦅 ! No Snow Just Breeze !
Thank Kirby and a very Happy Christmas to you and yours.
Simon, Very busy as usual and it looks as though all your winterising work during the Summer has paid off -well done . Great video as usual and look forward to see how your new cameras work out Would like to wish you and your family a Very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year
Thank you John, I have been doing this a few years now the less issues caused by poor maintenance the easier my winters. You know it is all jut a learning curve. My life just got a whole new lever of complicated with the new equipment si I hope I can do it justice. Happy Christmas to you are yours. Best wishes
fixing the heater might be a good idea. but if you peefer to go bareback its possible to have electric heating in globes, ahows and so forth (yeah i saw you had batteries, but there are varianrs wheee you connect it to the tractors electrical system and can have it fairly warm and cozy.
Thanks, I did fix the heater but it is as good as useless. Your not the first person to suggest wiring my self to the tractor maybe thats next.
My favorite videos snowplowin with the Volvo we are having an artic blast down here also Simon you have a great Xmas and happy glorious new year be safe up there
Happy Holidays Erik, enjoy Christmas in your wonderland.
Merry Christmas! I appreciate your efficiency of motion in all things, especially plowing and bucket work. I have a camp (cabin) in Maine that has been two season since the 1950s when my grandfather built it. We are working to make it 3 to 4 season. The water is always the issue. I have tried flooding the system with RV antifreeze, however, that gummed up the flow sensor in the tankless water heater. Boo. Of late I have created an air chuck adapter and blow the lines out with 10 to 20 psi of compressed air. Worked well last year. I also have looked for low spots on the piping and tried to eliminate them back to drain points. The heat wire like you show may be the answer to adding the 4th season for us. The wire will keep things fluid while there and a quick drain and blow down after sub freezing visits. Im glad that the owner paid for your expertise.
Happy Christmas and Thank you. It sounds like you are on the right track but you can make it 4 season. I have done enough now to be able to write a book on getting the worst un-insulated cabin to work but you need power and heat all the time, you know what happens when you loose heat and fail with the compressed air! So expensive. I have used the heating cables extensively now which has solved all the problems I had. The attic in the school is also un-insulated so I ran all the pipes, cold,ho flow and return in a box filled with insulation and a heat cable on a thermostat works at -40C I did a video seies on that house from start of an empty since 1992 to now and how to set that up. I went there yesterday in -19C and turned the water on and it all works. The family arrived last night and will have a great Christmas so just keep working your way through it. Dollars spent where you cannot see them is how you will make it work. Don't use any electronics would be my other advice. Good luck
I have no idea how you don't have more subscribers, interesting videos, glad we don't have that snow! I live in a area in the US that got hit by Hurricane Helene, snow is the last thing we need.
Thanks, I also have no idea why I don't have more subscribers. Maybe it will come someday. Your a Southern Man, I was so sorry to see all the destruction. I follow many others that were affected or helping. Thankfully we do not get high wind storms here and are to high to ever be flooded so can cope with the rest. Like you so many if not all our homes are wooden. I wish you well.
Hi SI, good video and nice to here you met up with your brother and how he has left you some goodies now you have just got some toys to play and learn about for Christmas 😆 keep up the good work and enjoy where you live mate. Love to you all and have a Great Christmas
Cheers Ash, yes it will be the bloody learning thing now and it is complicated so we will see how that all goes. Happy Christmas to you and your girls.
May the peace be upon you all up there in the north! Do please enjoy the Christmas and New Year - hopefully you'll post before the end on the month! I was wondering if all was well, you've been a tad quiet! However, thanks for the card - it arrived safely, much appreciated!! You all stay safe, warm and fun filled!! Keep the home fires lit and the cheer spreading!!
Thank you my friend, there has been a lot going on inside. Long joinery video's to come but then the winter hit properly at last. The old girl and I have be flat out for a week now so many plowing video's to come. Happy Christmas to you all.

Thank you, we are all good here. It has been a very busy week that was just the start of some very intense snow fall with good -15 to -20C. It must be very dangerous where you with all that going on so do take care my friend.

Hey there's my friend Simon! Good morning / evening to all. Simon it seems you have a bit more gitty-up in this video. I'm sure it's the snow, happens the first couple snow falls it seems till one gets tired of clearing the stuff. It started snowing here last night @ dark and it's still coming down. Everything is covered and it's just beautiful as you know. Sir I hope your having a productive day and be safe out there. Stay warm and keep the stove stoked. Best wishes to you, Sara and Kasper. I'm sure we'll talk before then but Merry Christmas just in case. God bless my friend. Thanks for sharing a small portion of your life. 👍 Hello Sara 👋 Keep warm and thanks for watching the boys. 🙏 ❤
Thank you my friend, it has snowed everyday since filming that video. The old girl and I are about worn out and Sarah has been waiting to go to town! How much and what you see next is all down to me learning the new editing software. I do have more footage now than ever before I just have to make it into something for y'all. Happy Christmas
Happy to give the first like...8° no snow here in the UK 😞

I would definitely save the logs. Maybe the owner will give you the logs in turn for you dismantling?
It may not get dismantled, there would be no reason for rebuilding it or using the same site but we will see.
Now that is what I call a renovation object. Pity that they left it to deteriorate for so long.
You know how it is Peggy, I thought it was interesting to show how it rots before you can see it.
Sad to see an old building allowed to “fall apart” (1925!!). Agree with your decision not to tackle any of it. Especially, if you had to do a “total cabin reconstruction” on your own. If it were 30/40 yrs ago, you would have been in your element Simon and I allow my imagination run wild at the finished building ❤️❤️❤️. As you have said, lay a new foundation on a more “stable” site. The owner may consider using the well preserved timber in the new building….that would allow the history to live on somewhat. Do hope you are all well and warm. From a very hot, humid Gold Coast. ❤️🇦🇺🇸🇪
It is sad Anne but the economics here often do not allow for maintenance, I am sure the only income was from farming or forestry, the children either built their own cabins or moved south making this scenario very common here. It was interesting for me to find such a house built entirely on sand. Take care Anne and Thank you. You both enjoy your trip.
@ we’ll do Simon. Yes, I thought as much that economics would have been the main obstacle, then possibly geographical. No doubt, I shall watch your next drop from Japan ❤️. ❤️🇦🇺🇸🇪
Right desision. It to far gone, it could be saved but the cost and labor be huge. All the flore should be fixed and rebuild new, probably the sparr rotten under even there
Tack Hans, not everything can be fixed.
I believe your correct 100% that the concrete added to the foundation was the cabins demise. I can see the rain and snow making its way down the wall to the concrete and with it not being angled away from the logs, every bit of it has been making it's way to the logs. I would have made the same call my friend. Perhaps the owner will consider demolition and maybe you can score the roof metal, logs for cants and whatever else you can salvage. I hope the three of you have a great weekend. Thanks for sharing sir! Hello Sarah 👋
Interesting how experience tells the story Mike, there may well be some benefit if the owner decides to rebuild in the same location and have it removed. Although I have to say there is no benefit to building on the same site other than a power supply. Take care my friend and thank you.
@arctic-rebel enjoy your coffee and morning. Off to try and get some sleep. Take care my friend. Thank you.
Howdy Simon- I think you made the right call. From what I can tell it would definitely be a major overhaul. I did a restoration on a log house that was on the National Historical register that was fifty years too late. It was in much worse shape than what you are looking at. I understand and respect your decision to back away. Hope all is well and you and Ms. Sarah have a great weekend. God bless
Thank you Paul, it would be a money pit for sure and impossible to accurately price. We are well thank you. Take care my friend.
That is a sweet old home Simon for sure hopefully it can be saved if the walls could talk dang it's cold down here gonna be 2 below zero F tonight you take and be safe
Thanks Eric, it would have been a hard life for sure. The old boots had cork soles! Stay warm and be well.
🤠👍 Yes, you can fix it. No doubt. But your customer won’t pay for it. Take care, stay safe, think twice several times.
Very true, thank you.
Hi Simon and family I want to wish your family happy holiday season 😊
Thank you Scott, out best by return.
Good call on not repairing it ! Too far gone ! Keep up the good work !
Thanks, will do!
