Well done, your attention to detail is admirable and all too uncommon. That stain job of the dovetails was a thing of beauty. The stain is too dark though, obscures the beautiful wood grain and doesn't go with the interior. A superb restoration nevertheless and so satisfying to save a piece from the past when furniture was made with such craftmanship and old growth tree wood that simply doesn't exist today.

Nice job Cole! 👍 Not only is this a toy box for Sonny now but he can use it to store stuff for his entire life. PS: Sorry to bring this up but... I've GOT to speak up or won't be able to let it go. PLEASE make sure that you drill air holes in the box. God forbid the lid comes down when he's playing and he gets stuck inside, hence the reason for the holes. Thanks for hearing me out!!! 😁

Sorry you’ve had a rough time- but I’m so glad to hear that Sonny is well enough to be home! I love the freedom to make the choices that appeal to me when I work on a piece for myself. I love the brass strip and would never have thought to do that. Nice! One thing you might consider, is drilling a small air hole into the side somewhere, even though the lid raises so easily. Just to be extra safe.

I love your vision for this piece and how it turned out! I wondered about the uneven sides. Maybe it was hand planed when it was made. It might have been neat to leave that original hand tool feature. Just a thought. You made some great improvements to the original work. Sonny will treasure his new box. Hope all goes well for you.

This is amazing! Great job! What’s even more amazing is the lack of professional tools you had to work with, but what a great job you did. I have watched Jay from Flipping drawers in his early years and have seen the tools he’s accumulated. And a cat lol! I have hopes for you that one day you’ll have as many! Keep up the good spirit!
