Recycling in Montgomery County, MD
While this video focuses on Montgomery County, MD, many principles of recycling from this video can be applied to many other municipalities -- especially with recycling plastic films! Here in the county, we use dual stream recycling, but single stream is more common across the United States. Europe utilizes multi stream, having many different containers to separate out recyclables. How well and often resources (particularly plastics) are recycled is largely dependent on how well residents are sorting their recycling, especially in dual and multi stream programs. Single stream programs have many issues trying to sell their recyclables since there are so many impurities in the product.

How are Fossil Fuels Made?

You have probably heard of the fossil fuels: oil, natural gas, and coal. But where exactly do they come from? What made them? What are they made out of? I would encourage you to watch my entire Climate Change playlist (ua-cam.com/play/PL...
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions by U.S. State

Most air pollution laws in the United States are regulated at the national level, so the state data isn't THAT important. Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Emissions by Country

At the end of the day, the total amount of carbon dioxide emissions is the most important, as CO2 from anywhere will affect the climate everywhere. But in reality, we don't have a global regulatory body and emissions are regulated at the national level. Combustion's Impact on the Carbon Cycle

In my carbon cycle video, you learned about the different slow and fast carbon pathways that carbon takes to move throughout Earth. While combustion existed before humans, humans have been using the process of combustion a lot more as we use our ingenuity to put combustion to work. However, this process is taking c...
Changing Carbon Dioxide (CO2) In Our Atmosphere
Переглядів 849 місяців тому
Logically, it makes sense that carbon dioxide is increasing in our atmosphere. Humans burn carbon based fuels such as wood, coal, oil, and natural gas and in the presence of oxygen, it will make the byproduct of carbon dioxide (CO2). Some Water Pollution is Okay: The NPDES

Not going to lie, Echinoderms are both boring and interesting to me at the same time. At first glance, they look pretty lame as their body structures are mostly just simple shapes but when you look deep into their biology, it fascinates me as how creatures that look so normal like a starfish or a sea cucumber are known to play roles that we didn’t expect a creature that looks like a star or a tube could ever do. But, if you look at a different angle about the biology, it is something that other creatures are known to do as well like starfish being predators is something that other creatures are known good as predators are found in almost every group. There aren’t particularly many echinoderms who play an interesting role in the ecosystem that many other animals don’t.

Chordates aren’t the most recent phylum of animals. Infact, they’re actually quite primitive with ancestors spanning before the Cambrian explosion.

Do you know of a more recent phylum...? Just because they are the most recent, doesn't mean that it still wasn't millions of years ago...

@@ProfessorNewtoff I know but, aren’t phylum’s like echinoderms and hemichordates are either younger or roughly about the same age as chordates? In the evolutionary tree of Deuterostomes, chordates diverged from the common ancestor that gave rise to both Echinoderms and hemichordates making their lineage slightly older. But, in other evolutionary trees about Deuterostomes that includes the extinct phylum known as Vetulicolia, it is grouped as closely related to chordates by showing how both phylum’s diverged from each other from the same common ancestor, thus showing that the common ancestor of chordates and vetulicolians and the common ancestor of echinoderms and hemichordates both evolved from the same common ancestor making either echinoderms chordates appearing at the same time.

    • @ProfessorNewtoff

@@SooJeon-rt7nq Ah okay, I see what you are getting at now. And very true -- nearly all of the animal phyla evolved during the Cambrian Explosion. You are correct that some things are probably more concurrent versus one after the other. Traditional textbooks list the phyla in the order they are in my channel (at least, in the animal diversity playlist). Because of how long ago it was + the lack of awesome evidence (fossils are great, when fossils are made...), we won't be able to pinpoint exactly when we see emergence. And then you have to consider at what point is the common ancestor to the echinoderms and chordates 'considered' one of those groups versus the predecessor, etc. With the videos on the phyla, I don't really focus or go into depth about timelines because for my classes, what I want them to know is the major characteristics of the groups. Sorry I don't go as in depth here!

What if pollen ( A) tree reaches to egg tree of different family (B) not the same of A tree. What will happen 🤔

    • @ProfessorNewtoff
      @ProfessorNewtoff Місяць тому

So sometimes they will make a new hybrid plant! Plants can "swap" egg/sperm between species with smaller problems than when it happens in the animal world. But sometimes the egg and sperm meet and nothing happens. Usually, the pollen tube won't even form in the first place because it doesn't "detect" what it's looking for (the egg of the same species).

    • @ProfessorNewtoff

So "conifer" really refers to anything that is cone bearing, so pine trees are included as a "conifer". In /everyday life/ usually when someone says 'conifer' they are thinking of fir trees (like a Christmas tree, if you are familiar with those). Fir is also a type of conifer but they are not synonymous.
