  • The organisms found in Class Scyphozoa are usually feared but they shouldn't be! Well, mostly shouldn't be! While they all share the stinging ability with their cnidocyte cells, many just cause discomfort (and peeing on it will not help!). Their life cycle is intriguing and a lesser known characteristic about them. Linked in the video is a 2 minute video ( • How Jellyfish Reproduce ) showing actual footage of the polyp stage of these jellyfish -- a rare sight!
If you need to review about the phylum this class is found in, you can review Phylum Cnidaria here: • Phylum Cnidaria: The T...
This group contains various classes of stinging animals such as:
    - Class Scyphozoa - Marine jellyfish (this video!)
    - Class Anthozoa - Sea anemones and coral ( • Class Anthozoa: The Fl... )
    - Class Cubozoa - Box Jellyfish (video coming...sometime...)
    - Class Hydrozoa - Everything else that stings (video coming...sometime...)
As always, phylogeny changes constantly as we learn new techniques to better explain the evolutionary relationships between organisms. These videos follow along with the free, online textbook OpenStax Biology 2e (openstax.org/b...) in Chapter 28.2: Phylum Cnidaria. This textbook also has review questions that are easily available to everyone for you to practice these topics more.
