  • In my carbon cycle video, you learned about the different slow and fast carbon pathways that carbon takes to move throughout Earth. However, a new pathway has been added by humans: combustion (essentially, fire). While combustion existed before humans, humans have been using the process of combustion a lot more as we use our ingenuity to put combustion to work. However, this process is taking carbon that has been stored in fossil fuels for hundreds of millions of years (and would have stayed without our intervention) and transforming it into carbon dioxide through combustion, entering a fast carbon cycle in our atmosphere. While the impact of this is explored in a future video, the process of combustion and how different fuels contribute to atmospheric carbon dioxide are explored here.
I would encourage you to watch my entire Climate Change playlist (www.youtube.co..., as I start at the foundations of carbon cycle on Earth and work up to the impacts of climate change.
