Class Trematoda: Flukes not Flounder

  • One of the classes in Phylum Platyhelminthes is Class Trematoda, which contains all of the flukes. All of the flukes are parasitic with some using one host and others using two (or more!). Despite the variation in life cycles, they all share that at least one of the hosts must be a mollusk, such as a snail, octopus, or clam. Some trematodes can even use mind control on their host to make them do what they want -- especially if they need to get to another host!
