- A flash talk (or originally a PechaKucha, created in Japan) is a presentation style to share information in just a few minutes. It's hallmark is that it is an automatic talk; the slides advance automatically after a predetermined amount of time. The flash talk presented here has 10 slides each for 18 seconds, resulting in a 3 minute presentation. This isn't a standard though, different organizations may use different settings.
The first three minutes of this video is my flash talk about some tips and tricks for preparing for a flash talk. Instead of using a bunch of clipart, I decided to fill it with pictures from the dogs I have raised through Guiding Eyes for the Blind (www.guidingeyes.org). After the flash talk, I give a quick tour of PowerPoint and the settings you need to make slides automatically advance. Some key points are here:
3:12 - How to duplicate a slide to have the exact same content and settings
3:53 - How to make slides automatically advance after a set amount of time
This is my first time hearing about Flash Talk. Thank you a lot.
You're welcome! They are a lot of fun to do, and they definitely challenge you to think about what you want to share. I hope you get to try one soon!
