Heaven knows how you ended up on this channel, you know that you've gone really deep into UA-cam when you end up here. Anyway, welcome to CentralPASirens! On this channel, you'll find various warning siren videos from across central Pennsylvania, as well as an occasional one from outside of that area. All comments that I find to be rude/offensive or inappropriate will be deleted. We all have opinions on almost everything in life, but that doesn't mean that you have to share them with everybody else. Now grab a snack, sit down and enjoy some noisemaking things on a pole!
Biglerville, PA FS STH-10 Siren Test- Alert- 6/3/23
I forgot how loud this thing was because this was the first time in a while that I wished I had brought hearing protection. Also missed an opportunity to include the Musselman's applesauce smokestack in the background. Good thing this isn't too far of a drive because I'll definitely come back just for that. Adams County sirens are tested on the first Saturday at noon, alternating each month between alert and fire signals.

So I zoomed in a little too much because I'm not used to recording rotational sirens, oh well. This is a former TMI siren that was installed on Stetler Road in New Cumberland before being moved here for use as a fire siren. I can't wait for the "this looks like an STL" comments. Not quite sure why half the horns are missing but it certainly didn't make it quieter as this thing was ear-piercingly loud as well as a little lower pitch than normal STH-10's; i'm guessing it's running on slightly lower voltage. Ventured further north in Dauphin County to this M-10, which is my furthest north test so far in the county. I accidentally parked on someone's property but luckily he was cool about it. This 2T22 is located at the Buchanan Valley Fire Department just south of the Michaux State Forest, which made for a beautiful drive and shot as well! Met up with Will (njsirens) and Owen (Sweet Tea Sirens) in Goldsboro for what I believe is the second to last TMI siren test. Originally, there was a Model 5 here as a fire siren and a Cyclone. The 2001 replaced the Cyclone as the nuclear siren, then got replaced by the T-128. At least siren tests haven't been cancelled due to coronavirus. ;) This Model 5 came from Londonderry, Dauphin County and replaced another 5 at the current location (the fire company). I think this is actually a STH-10B because it has its own cap and it has a thick cord look at the difference between this recording and other STH recordings

Do you know how rare these are? About 4 in the world! (active and about 6 total including inactive and active) and two of them are in PA! What makes them rare is their motor, you can tell it has a Valley Electric motor from the distinct sound of the wind up and lower pitch. Amazing catch.
There are way, way more than that that are active. The NY Capital District has several STL-10s that are in active use a fire sirens alone.

I live right between 2 STH-10s one to the north one to the south, they arent even a mile apart, on rare occasoin they will harmonize in attack.

this siren sounds just like a demay siren, i actually recorded a french demay siren recently so you can compare the sound, it can be found here : ua-cam.com/video/XBOx2dlTl-s/v-deo.html
tiny update : if you think they have diffrent port ratios, they do, the STL-10 is 7 port, but that demay is 8 port, and, to be exact, the demay siren model i am talking about is a demay R3P. tho, you might be wondering, why does it sound the same if it has a diffrent port ratio ? the motor rpm is the answer, french sirens run on 50hz causing them to have either 3000rpm, 2950rpm or rarely 2850rpm (the case of the demay siren). because they run slower, it spins slower, meaning lower pitched. in my opinion i prefer the french sirens to these, they have better horns. but anyways, thats all.

i;ve been to this station in december of last year and saw it 2t22 and 3t22s are one of my favorite sirens
Pretty powerful for a single phase repulsion! Sounds pretty healthy even if it looks like it's seen better days it keeps ticking.
One of these sirens goes off in Timonium,Maryland on everyday at 10:30 and 12:00
