This is the same exact siren that I would always hear from all the way in swarthmore even though garden city fire co is a little far but dang these types of sirens are loud to almost here them
The Valleys were most common on STL's and STH-10's from 1955-1968. The town next to mine has a Valley STH-10 that's been there since 1955. Single phase models started to be produced around 1968.
Do you know how rare these are? About 4 in the world! (active and about 6 total including inactive and active) and two of them are in PA! What makes them rare is their motor, you can tell it has a Valley Electric motor from the distinct sound of the wind up and lower pitch. Amazing catch.
also, this siren sounds just like a low pitch french demay siren and i actually recorded a french demay siren recently, it can be found here : ua-cam.com/video/XBOx2dlTl-s/v-deo.html
It seems like all of the STL-10 sirens with a Valley electric motor make what sounds like a bad sound starting up. That’s just a characteristic of the motor starting circuit for Valley equipped sirens.

tiny update : if you think they have diffrent port ratios, they do, the STL-10 is 7 port, but that demay is 8 port, and, to be exact, the demay siren model i am talking about is a demay R3P. tho, you might be wondering, why does it sound the same if it has a diffrent port ratio ? the motor rpm is the answer, french sirens run on 50hz causing them to have either 3000rpm, 2950rpm or rarely 2850rpm (the case of the demay siren). because they run slower, it spins slower, meaning lower pitched. in my opinion i prefer the french sirens to these, they have better horns. but anyways, thats all.
That wind up is smooth and it looks so clean.
They repainted the siren but not the junction box.
Seems like the motor wasn't electromechanically refurbished either
This is a Federal Signal STL-10B. That’s the reason it’s low pitched. It’s a single phase unit.

good ol stl-10B
STL-10A.
Wow that refurbishment looks awesome! Weird how it has a valley motor.
STLs use Valley motors. The STH in my town uses a Valley motor
@@radiosnmore1225 Most of them used GE or Marathon ones iirc
@@radiosnmore1225 from what i have seen, most of them use those weird single phase looking motor that are actually 3 phase.
Valley motors were used on the early units. I was not too knowledgeable back then.

HOLY CRAP DELEWARE COUNTY TESTS???
Sounds like St Francisco’s old STL-10s

There are way, way more than that that are active. The NY Capital District has several STL-10s that are in active use a fire sirens alone.
@@thisissparta789789 I'm not talking about all STL-10's. Only the Valley Electric ones
@@thisissparta789789 I am talking about the motor, not the actual siren.
It’s already missing some of the screens! Nice video!
I hear this siren nearly all the time! Live in next door Swarthmore!
Btw this is really Wallingford, not Garden City
It’s actually all Nether Providence Township. Wallingford is the zip code
the siren has been restored?
I have one of those but it went out of service/chopper is stuck in 2014-2013 and got replaced with a t-121 in 2016-2017
Nice video Luke!
Are these 7 port?
Yes. This one just has a old motor.
No, it has a valley electric motor, about 4 STL's with these exist. I am pretty sure the vem always sounds like that.
Motor sounds bad starting up but the siren sounds and looks awesome. These are my favorite siren
It’s just a single phase model STL-10B
@@1000BT still love the sound great video
@@1000BT It's 3 phase
